- Here is my review on the newly released GE Smart home window air conditioner. It is a great window air conditioner with WIFI capability and an app to allow you to operate while away from home! You can buy this at Lowes.

Got mine yesterday and love it cools my living room very quickly
I simply wanted to see someone remove the filter cover, and I saw that, and tried on mine, works very well, thank you, very good video!
Same. We like the ECO mode (which is why it shuts off and will come back on). It can sense when your room has hit the goal Temp and will save electricity by shutting off then turning back on when it notices a drop in temperature. So that’s nice. We’ve loved it so far. HOWEVER, we have been having this god awful beeping noise and all the settings and led lights going off one after the other. The beeping isn’t like every 10-15 minutes it’s literally BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP consistently like an alarm. We’ve tried everything, cleaning the filter, resetting the unit, checking the circuit breaker and we’ve been at our wits end with the damn beeping. Anyone having the same problem? GE told us since it’s two months old now, that we should cut the cord so they can deem it faulty, rebate us so that we can get a new one but we’re not even sure if we want to risk that to have the same issue.

I've had that same problem before twice. The first time, it happened 3 days after purchase, so we were able to exchange it then. The second time, we're going through it now, and not sure if we'll be able to return it after 6 months. It seemed like it was a circuit breaker issue the first time. Could be again in my case.
I hate the ECO mode.
Its the control boards. These Ac Units all have this issue.. They are legit garbage. And GE knows this is common issue. I had one for less then two weeks same issue. Do yourself a favor and go for another brand all together. Not busting the posters chops but dont advertise this garbage!!

Thank you so much. I couldn't figure out y it kept shutting off until you talked about the eco button. I turned that off and now it stays running. Thanks again and God bless.
Mine only Lasted 1 year. It shuts down and beeps like crazy every second.

I have same problem but without beeping, it is junk.
Buttons dont work on the ac but the remote works .and the filter wont reset .and the temperature sometimes stays at 88. Filter resets now and found a way to bypass temperature changing by itself !

Just clean the black filter piece and the dirt on the vent part and the dirt on inside .press the filter button or if it changes by itself just set a 24 hr timer on it
This particular AC has a common issue. Boards apparently go bad. Causing them to not turn on, Flash and beep. To no end. Bad AC unit. Glad i recieved it for free. My original GE and even older GE window unit from 2002 is far better than these. Im sorry to say. Hopefully others have good luck with it.

Right they are junk as soon as that circuit board goes out and it will if ever wash out your air filter and do not get it completely dry it will short out your circuit board
I bought 2. Circuit board went out on 1. Swapped with the other to see if it was the circuit board. it was. Lasted 1 season. new board 100 bucks. I have the newest one. No boards available for mine i found one that looks similar. Going to try it. I think i would stay away. Lots of people are having this problem.

This A/C unit it crap. Only had it a month and I have to fight with it to keep it turned on. Once I get it turned on and running it may run for 5 minute, if lucky and kick off !!!! UGH
That is a bummer!! Ours is good. Maybe reach out to the place you purchased and get a refund

I normally never post any reviews because I never have needed to but this unit do not buy.
Faulty control board always blinks on and off.
I had called GE and they are aware of the problem and told me to recycle the unit because of its fault board and they would’ve given me money back after I got a receipt for a new AC.
I am buying a new ac now and have to send them proof I bought a new unit for my refund.
Glad they are giving you a new one! Thats great! Ours is still working well, for some great reason!
Did they ask for proof of original purchase or anything like that? Our 1st one died last year after less than 3 months of use. This one now is the replacement for that one and I fear it's going to do what the first one did. It's starting to have issues already only 2 months into use. I kept the manual but I don't think I can find the receipt.
I dropped 500$ on this junk it keeps turning on and off every literally 2 seconds and all the led indicators flash on. I learned this is called short cycling. GE said i have to buy another one to get reimbursed. Buy it twice? No chance. Any help would be appreciated I only had it less than 3 months.

Mine just went too, they are reimbursing me after I buy another one, just what I need something else I have to fight with someone to replace because it is junk, and not cheap junk either.
I left my cats in the room and the remote was on the floor! They put it to heat at 99 degrees, but I can't find how they did that! The heat only goes to 87
How I reset everything ? All the light just goes on for me and than it shuts off after 5 seconds

Mine powers on for 2 seconds with all lights on panel and then powers off and back on all lights and 2 seconds. Over and over . What's the problem ?

Just had a power surge.... The surge protector didn't do Jack shit! Power came back on and it beeps endlessly... Think it's done for...

why can we see the outside behind your AC? ACs usually have sliding sides that reach the ends of the window so no hot air comes in or cool air escapes.
It does have the sliding thing. I have the exact same ac. But I put a piece of wooden board so they can't break in
The sliding side screens are white, so they allow light to come in. There are no air gaps :)
I have the same air conditioner, and suddenly, it stopped following the schedule that I set up on the app. Do you know how to fix it, please? The AC is still connected to my phone and my wifi because I am able to turn it on and off from my phone.
Well I bought the one u have now it has filter red light we had it for like a week and keeps beeping won't turn on and when it does it turns on and beeps

Did you try using all functions? We have had no trouble with ours, but we did not connect it to wifi. Maybe turn that off and try to turn it on manually?
does the temperature control work like a regular thermostat with normal HVAC? For example, if you set it on 74 degrees will it come on and go off when the temp rises above and below 74 degrees, respectively? Thanks

I dont like how much sunlight these newer units let in. They lack real metal and thick insulation the older units have which is why so much light is coming through the vent.
That is true, but it still worked pretty darn good!
cost savings, weight savings, and loudness (vibrating metal parts make more noise)are reasons why manufacturers are using more plastic.
I just got this model from a neighbor who only had it for a year, brand new, and it works perfectly except I have no idea what the wifi is all about. It doesn't seem to do anything and the GE smart home app doesn't have it. Is there something I'm missing?
I never was able to get the wifi to work 🤷 but I don't mind working it old school :)

The wifi light has to be blinking for the unit to connect.
So today i got my first ever smart A/C. Did anybody have issues with the condensation water getting stuck in the middle of the unit and fan blowing it everywhere? I installed it at a angle and little higher on heavier side but still getting the water build up with the drain plug pulled off. Might need to return it. I was really looking forward for a great experience :( also had a couple of dents in the coil side out the box.
Eder Roque Have been dealing with that for two weeks now. Even bought a bracket for outside the window to increase the tilt. Only other thing I can think up of, which I don’t particularly like. Is to drill a hole in the side of the drip pan.
The water is necessary to cool the unit, it is normal for it to build up water.. it will dissipate and drip out the back on its own... Also, there is a small grey drain plug in the back of the ac at the bottom, if you are worried about this water, you can drain it through there.... By the way, it says all this in the manual.. lol
I have a game room and gym in my 3 car garage. iam wondering if I should get just one of this heaters or a window ac/heater for my fully insulated 3 car garage? If I get just a heater then I have to worry about getting something to cool it in the summer. I just don't know which way will be the way to go, two separate units one for the summer and one for winter or just find a unit that has both in it ac and heating? Garage is about 660sq ft and 8ft ceiling night, fullybinsulated even garage doors. Live in Clovis ca with a climate zone of 9b.
Mine only lasted 3 months. Then it shows the death number 88.

@@TheMegamanpr No stay clear of this AC UNIT.. They have a common problem with their control boards. Even with proper care and use the issue happens.. Its a poor design. They put a unprotected control board right below the cold air blower, and above the intake radiator. They short quickly!!
Good morning. We purchased this model last year. used 1 season and this season all it does is show 88, all lights beep and it cycles for 10 seconds and shuts off. We have checked the filter, the power, the unit - any experience with this concern before I toss this waste of money and go with Amana ?
I would reach out to GE, maybe its covered under their warranty?
Also, are you using it manually or through the app?

I have one but when I plug it up the lights just blink on an off then when I power it in it will beep then turn off then the lights will start blinking again do u know any who could help me
Mine did that when in power saving mode. You could try turning that off and see how it responds then

Ok could someone please tell me how to disable the button press sound? The booklet shows press fan and these little star symbol. There is no symbol to push ..The button sounds drive me crazy. I take it off tv remotes as well ... Could someone help me with this? Appreciate it in advance

What does the auto button mean does it always stay on or is there a button to turn back on and off like a hvac ac
Anyone knows how to fix the leaking issue ? It works just fine no complaints just need a good method to fix the leaking issue without breaking the warranty
Someone else mentioned making sure it tips toward the outside and not toward the room inside? Perhaps a shim?
There is a plug, but it wont be as efficient.

I’m not sure about this exact unit or model but I used to have one GE that last me 20 years. I personally think GE is a great brand I’m looking forward to buy me another one.

Yes, it should. Ours will auto shut off when reaching the set temperature. This is part of the eco function.
The touch panel on my GE window unit does not work at all. Cant even put up or down? We don’t even have a year with it. What to do

You can set the timer or the temperature desired and It should auto-shut off
You can get the manual online from GE.
So you couldn't get the wifi app set-up either. It seems to be a problem and it is complicated to set up.
Mine was easy the only issue for me is filter reset

Our app has been a problem, but many things aren't made for Android use and I just deem it to that 🤷♀️

Rachael Flite not exactly but what I did was unplug the big cord from the outlet and I think that may have tripped the whole starting system I just returned it to Lowe’s and got a new one

Hi, Beth. I'm considering buying the identical ac with 12,000 btu's (not sure how many yours is). The only thing is that I have an ac "can" in my apartment; you know those ac housing units that are built into building walls that protrude outside?
Obviously, the main concern is that the can has it's own dimensions that seem to be a little on the small side in terms of height. I.E. about 15 inches and I read that this GE Smart ac has a height of 14.5 in, which would be fine. Can you possibly measure yours to verify if that is the correct height of the ac, before I pull the trigger... and end up shooting myself in the foot? Lol. Great vid, btw! Also, sorry for the hassel.

My only issue is that it spits a lot of water. I mean, A LOT.. I tilted the AC back a bit and still spitting water... Don't know what else to do.

We were unable to connect also. Figured it was our android. We just use it manually.

No it does not have to be connected to wifi. You should be able to turn on manually using the buttons like normal. If not, return it and exchange for a new one

So, there' no timer??
It is temperature based, so turns on and off with the set temp. Or you can turn on/off with the remote or app (if you can get the app to work)

No, we haven't! But we don't have to keep them in all year. I bet some weather stripping would help to keep them from coming in

I got ours from Lowe's. The only con I have is that the wifi has never been able to be set up. I attribute it to my android phone. But it has not had any other problems for us!

It wouldn't hurt to have it bracketed, mostly so it is of no risk to anyone when you are installing or removing
Do NOT buy this product. I spent $500 on it and it WILL NOT STAY ON more than 2 minutes at a time iv tried everything,all the settings,reading the manual to here now on UA-cam. I will be returning mine asap. Save your money. My smaller one that’s 5 years old works 10x better.
I have the same unit. The unit rattles and is very laud, I want to just toss it out the window.
That stinks!! Ours is pretty much the same noise level as other units we have had.
I hate this A/C. Everything was fine until one heavy rainy day it started spitting. And the control board started turning itself on and off. I can't turn the filter button off. It keeps turning itself on and off. It did it over 6 times lastnight. Do NOT buy! Yes it feels amazing but what's the point if it won't stay on. 😩

@@BethEHomeAndGarden I forgot to update ha. So we took the faceing off and the motherboard, we seen they had water inside the buttons/ motherboard. That's why it was doing it. We decided to buy a new a/c because there was no fixing it.
That is less than ideal. Now you're out money twice! So many have had trouble with this unit. Ours has worked great, so we must have gotten a good batch

I agree. I think they were trying to make something "new", but I could do with less technology and a more consistent build.
junk.junk.junk. with its smart tech, it knows what the hottest time is and refuses to work. you would be lucky to get a 5* temp drop between 12-6.
Don't buy total junk. Had one that died after a year. Kept clean and did maintenance. Control board died and they don't sell part. Thumbs down 👇

they actually have a decent return policy, and if this is a known problem, it's worth a shot! Also, check in with GE....maybe they have a re-call?
