Dru, you’re the truth, Brotha. I always look for your live stuff with Miguel. Thank you for going through all the variations of chord progressions and your inflections. Super dope! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
You're my guitar idol. Can't believe you shared all this amazing stuff. Totally inspired to push my playing beyond the comfort zone of the basic 4 chords. Thanks idol Dru!
DREW! I really want to learn the thrill the way you played it in the Spotify session! I can’t find a video where I can see your movements :/ A drutorial on that version would be AMAZINGGG. if you get some spare time and it’s convenient for you I would be super grateful. Rock on drew
Dru, you are the absolute man. Your Spotify Sessions version of this song was off the hook - I spent a year learning and refining it, so now all my housemates have heard it a billion times. How does one learn so many voicings for a single chord? Do I have to get a Bachelor's degree in guitar performance, or is there an easier way? You're an incredible player, and so cool of you to do these drutorials. Looking forward to more!
+guitarfan Right on! That spotify session was rad. How to learn tons of voicings? The good news is, if you learn one voicing, you've effectively learned 12 new chords, because you can just move it stepwise up the fretboard. But it definitely doesn't require a degree, just curiosity, and a general understanding that any cluster of D (E) F# A (C#) in any order, anywhere, will get some cool results. So you just get in the zone and start making shit up.
very cool. You did a great job showing some awesome chords without talking down to us. This is much appreciated!! working on the chords as we speak. #twothumbsup
Dru brother I am back. Have you done a tutorial for that sick acoustic you and Miguel did for Quickie way back in the day? You played that so sick. If you haven't is there any chance you could?
+Dru DeCaro wow man I did not expect for you to actually reply. Thank you very much that means a lot to me. I'm working on playing the song right now and when I'm ready I'll put up a video of me playing and singing it
+Dru DeCaro oh man. I can't wait. Even tho I'm confident that I have certain sections down pat, there are areas that I'm slightly uncertain about. The Wendy Williams Show and Kelly & Michael performance of Coffee i have recorded. Play em non stop
Thanks for the lesson. Ive noticed when you play live you use a Boss GT10 correct me if I'm wrong? Do u use it just for effects, amp sims ect.? Im sure you could use whatever piece of gear you want, just wondering why u choose that.
funyun000 Yup that's the one. I use it for all kinds of things, it's usually the only thing between my guitar and amp. I have a ton of other pedals at home, but none as instantly customizable as the GT. There are a lot of ways for it to sound bad, but if you dig into the signal chain there's a lot of ways for it to sound flippin huge.
How did he get to the other chord progression, i mean what is the reasoning or theory behind going from D, F#m, C#m, Bm to Dmaj7/A, etc. is it voicing?
The Dmaj7/A is, at it's heart a "D" chord. So it replaces the first chord in the progression || Dmaj7/A | F#m | C#min | Bm ||. The lesson is: there are many ways to play a D chord (Dmaj7/A is one of them), find one that is truly your own, or one which fits the song and moment perfectly. Try not to always reach for the same thing.
