I love how Dave gives advice: straight up, no chaser. Dude is stuck in anlaysis paralysis mode. He knows that a 2.5 hr commute will not work. He just neeeded someone to drill that into him
Analysis paralysis... good one!
Caller just need 5hr drive everyday to rethink his life and career that's all.
He's been on his job for 15 yrs... financially stabled. Enjoy your life & kids at home and get the serverance pay...it ain't over yet
I love when Dave finally says I’ve heard enough through his reactions. My favorite is when he just hangs up on the call!
Sounds like his commute is to Orlando. The traffic on I-4 is a nightmare. He should move.
🤣🤣
This is a good example of why you need to do stuff outside of work if you are working with proprietary things, otherwise your experience will be worthless.
For real o_o I did side jobs programming at night for most of the past year to help me get a programming job in more “normal” technology. Saw the writing on the wall luckily 😂 now I’m comfortable and don’t have to do side work anymore but the extra work simply for the sake of gaining exp was worth it
I did a 2 hour commute to and from a great career. I loved my coworkers and my director but by year two, I couldn’t do it anymore. It’s not glamorous driving that long to get to a job!
Do you think one hour would be doable for the “perfect” situation (coworkers, director etc)
@@clairewillow6475 sure. Mine was in a big city. Sometimes taking several hours to get home due to traffic 😣
@@clairewillow6475 No.
I live in a small city. I'm working from home right now, but when I commute, it's 15 minutes. Get out of the big city!!
@@stewbugz5213 oh no 🙈 I’m getting worried for the new job I start soon :s
Bro if you got to convince Dave that you really like your job, you don't actually...
He's picky AF. There's no reason that a software engineer needs to commute for 2.5 hours for a job.
Right. I am a software developer and I commute to my room. Lol...
@@truegrizzlesfan2292 lol. I thought that’s where all coders work. Lol
He needs to become a "Software Developer" then. Software Engineer sounds too sophisticated.
he's a systems engineer, that's something else
@@webfreakz you're right but its still in the STEM field
People with long tenures become very comfortable and don't want to learn anything new or move.
Too much of a long commute. Too much extra time away from the family is not worth it unless your in severe financial strains
I would get a job at Taco Bell before I accept a 2.5 hour commute.
Lolz id rather fo uber eats before that stupid 2.5 hour commute
I love how real Dave is lol
Comfortable blanket. I have been too nervous to find a new job with a different company
How is he having a problem finding a job with a security clearance in Tampa? There are plenty of organizations that would hire him in a second in Tampa. I agree with the other commenter who said he was just being super picky. As a systems engineer, he can't always work remote from home, but with an active clearance, he can request and get some accommodations that could let him work from home at least part of the week.
Good paying jobs are not the norm in Tampa. Tampa is the home of strippers and health care companies.
@@Lianne459 they are if you have a security clearance and are a system engineer. If he isn’t making six figures with those two things, then he’s doing something wrong.
I love all these "Yes, but..." kinda calls lol
Right?... like, Dave tell me what to do, just so I can tell you that you are wrong
I like them because their honest and people express what their train of thought and logic is. Nothing wrong with that, in fact it makes it more relatable
Denial, is not just a river in Egypt!
😂🤣😂🤣
Paralyzed. Self paralysis. I know the mentality by experience. He has a great support network that he doesn’t conceive of life without it.
If he has a technology background, he needs to look for a company that may be headquartered in one city, but has satellite offices in other cities. I am in IT and work for an engineering firm with offices across the world. Because what we do and what we manage is cloud-based, we don't HAVE to work in a specific office to do our job. If he's got enough knowledge to work comfortably in any IT environment, he could easily write his own ticket and continue to work from home.
Many system integrators do this too.
All apologies, but Brandon's excuses smell like teen spirit. He needs to realize his skills are in bloom and start sending out resumes. Once potential employers see his experience they will say "come as you are". It's like he's try to put something in the way of him and a new job and it's really dumb.
Appreciate the nirvana references 💯
Dave was very "curt" with him. ;-)
I don't care what school district my kids are in, we're moving, even another state.
Booooooom
Your user name is cool! Haha
🤣😂😂🤣😂😂
As long as it's not a super poor school district. Dont want your kids growing up ar-tarded.
Edit: oops, just heard kid is autistic.
He's got the in-laws in the same zip code to help out.. that is a bonus.
Looks like the co-host is not allowed to disagree 🤣
I'de move for the job and commute to visit the in-laws / rental house. You can always find a good school district or charter school.
ThAts a great way to look at it actually
Exactly. And honestly the in-laws can move to be closer to them, if they really want to live on the same street.
Exactly. Not one factor that he mentioned as a reason to stay will make him money. Just move closer to the job. I’m sure a comparable neighborhood and school district is near it.
Leave the wife and kids where they are, come home on the weekends.
2.5 hour commute per work day would drive anyone insane, no pun intended
That's only like an hour and 15 minutes each way, that's what I do on a good day. Sometimes it's 5 hours round trip especially when you have to stop for fuel every other day. I wouldn't advise it though.
Self-driving tesla
@@avocadogaming3942 self driving Teslas don’t exist.
Systems Engineers are in huge demand. Looking for a job now with a reasonable commute or finding another that allows remote work will set you up for success before the layoff.
I live 10 mins from work.. and it still seems long. (Ride a bike)
If I could live across the street from my job I would😂
My main job is a 3 minute drive, a 4-5 minute moped drive, or a 25 minute walk. I feel you lol.
@@craigcarter400 I couldn’t stand living that close to work. Glad I live far enough but I’m close enough as well. Sorry, I just don’t want to be bumping into people throughout the day/ corporate people lingering in the area.
He's way too picky! Life is hard, not nirvana. Make a proactive effort to find another job. If you want to stay in the same area, start there. If you have to move, move. Just do it.
While he still has a job, snag a certification and make yourself more marketable in your area. Problem solved.
I don’t think this call will be about a river in Egypt.
Long commutes are normal in Tampa . The whole SunCoast region of Florida is congested! It’s takes an hour to get anywhere. I75/275 gets congested using certain parts of the day. Plus tampa bay metro area has the highest rent increase in the county right now.
Crazy to see how brainwashed people are to a corporation. This guy thinks he’s free because he can work from home but his employer is really dictating everything about his life and he doesn’t even realize it.
The goal should be total freedom.
Almost three hours just to drive to work… MOVE OR GET A NEW JOB 😭
He should move to Maine, they pay people to move there and there’s no traffic to worry about
Why does it always sound like the same caller every time?
Ken: I'm not gonna say it's not a good idea. You can do that.
Dave: Its not
Ken: I'm gonna say it's not a good idea...
Whatever Dave says just agree lol. I hate how they can not debate a little bit with Dave in some aspects.
Don't step on Boss' toes
@@tonysoprano6265 lol that's not what was happening here. Ken was couching his statement then Dave just outright said it so Ken dropped the pretence.
Ken doesn't want to end up like Chris Brogan lol.
I really can't stand Ken lol
There are great school districts in Orlando as well.
6:55 "Don't wallow in the com--" my video cut off at this point and I was like 🤨
I love how Dave will just kick you in the balls!!
Curious to know what systems he works with…
It bothers me that they muted him or wouldn't let him respond.
But you can’t rant and rave and make it all about you if you actually let the other person speak .
Anything else he had to say would have had no bearing on the answer to his question. He'd already given more detail than necessary anyway. A 5 hour round trip daily is beyond asinine.
So cute, Sounds like a stay home mommy
Sometimes you gotta move because you gotta move.
Stay and get a severance package then start looking! No brainer! Especially if you are financially stable!
Is it 2.5 hours commute one way or both ways?
Idk? Tampa to Orlando is apx 1.5hrs
Your in-laws live on the same street? Painful
Not painful at all when there’s respect, maturity and support! It’s a HUGE blessing when grandparents can be a healthy part of your family dynamics
@@USmomma4 How many years did it take you to convince yourself of that?
Well John if you have a bad or toxic family dynamics going on, I could see why you’d respond the way you have. There are other healthy situations going on thankfully, and whether it’s family or friendships having genuine loving, supportive relationships is wonderful and fun. If you don’t have that, become the first person/family to end the cycle of abuse & dysfunction. Go for it! 👍
@@USmomma4 Well said.
Did he say the new job 15 miles away, 2.5 hours? What city is it in
If you have a good number of years in same Organisation, why not stay until pushed and get the payoff
Im in denial?
But ive never been to egypt.
He should have FIRE instead
Watch our for Denial. That river in Egypt has drowned a lot of otherwise smart people.
Well, I’m not in denial because I’m not in denial.
WE LOVE ❤️ YOU 🙏 BLESSED YOU ARE FOR CARING ABOUT US ❤️ HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY ❤️
There are great jobs with great companies the caller just needs to keep looking
Why do people with these highly sought after skill sets think that there's only one job on the face of the planet somehow?
Two and a half hr commute that’s horrible
@@saulgoodman2018 Do you realize how many hours that amounts to in a week, a month, a year, and over a lifetime? It can get to a scary big number.
Tampa and Orlando aren’t that far apart
@@chezshirecat1872 it is during the weekday and you know I'm talking about traffic
@@saulgoodman2018 Yes it does, the whole point is he is happy he gets to spend time with his children. You would not care if you all of a sudden had to add 25 hours of driving time per week to your schedule?
Dude systems engineer with a security clearance in Tampa you can find a six figure job in your sleep
2:20 - his in laws live on the same street? That would be enough to make me move.
My question is how close is he till FIRE???
Hi. My life is perfect. And only expect perfect. This call was so annoying
4:38 I love it when Ramsey goes Leroy Jenkins and splits with his side kick. Leeeeeerooooooy.
On a related note, pretty funny seeing the side kick dieing inside as Ramsey bulldoze him 😂
Imposter syndrome is a real thing in tech jobs. There's so many new technologies and it moves so fast. It's especially worrying for a guy who's worked on a very specific technology for a long time because although he's experienced, he feels like he doesn't know much else.
The reality is much different. This guy needs to stop being scared and just apply for jobs.
He says woah to 2 1/2 commute a day like the rest of us don't do that
You do not wait to you get laid off . When you are out of work no one wants you . Harder to find work .
commute is king
This man is not looking hard enough. I live 12hrs up the east coast from Tampa and I get job offers from Tampa and surrounding cities all the time.
Very picky. Probably because his parents have paid for it all
What did he say that led you to infer that?
DO NOT DO!!!!! I'VE DONE THAT TYPE OF COMMUTE ALMOST KILLED ME! (AND MY CAR!!!)
Always Tampa 🤦
Tampa Bay represent!
He needs to look for additional jobs and reconsider moving.
Sounds like he works for IBM. This what they do.
Depends on how old he is. Tech is very ageist and you become obsolete.
this guys to to FIRE as soon as possible to enjoy his family. Retire early
just don't be a useless system admin that shows up to an interview and you can't script in powershell, sounds like he is
Don't really need PS to admin Linux servers.
Funny I was thinking the same thing but you beat me to the comment.
KSH sure help Automate though
lol. dave got a little rant y... on this one...
Unless that job paid double then heck no. Lol
I'm always curious to know what they write on the papers in front of them 🤣
They doodle the cool "S" thing we all did in middle school.
Math
Their writing the callers grocery list for rice and beans

Most people today are in denial. They are also blind and deaf.
And illiterate
Deaf?
@Metal Mantis Oh no, I understand what she means by *deaf.* I just don't understand what *death* has to do with anything.
@@mustdieproductions I meant deaf. I used voiced to text. Thx for pointing that out.
This guy is all over the place. He should start by addressing his ADHD. I think Dave might haver overestimated his skills/abilities.
How is 15 miles away 2.5 hours away, just use a scooter and you shpuld get there in like 30 min
Move! You live too close to inlaws lol
Brandon needs to commute to Denali.
MOVE!
Unless we have bullet train technology. No

2-3 hour commute is horrible? You have never been to DC. Look up this thing called slugging and commuter buses. I work with people from Baltimore MD in DC, Richmond VA in DC, West Virginia in DC, .....
Nirvana is ending, join the Foo Fighters.
This other guy is not as good as the Dr guy. He does not give thought out responses
Ken Coleman is awesome. I have his book, "The Proximity Principle".
@@jimroscovius Dr guy gives a well thought out educated view. Ken just waffles basic stuff
I like Ken better because I like financial stuff over relationship stuff.
This guy sounds like he does not make many decisions on his own…grow a pair and demand what you want and stop with the timid approach…he sounds so passive with a lot of things
I hear Dominion is looking for software engineers for their voting systems. Are you a Democrat or Republican.....
😂
Lol
😂
Dave, please stop using the Lord's name in vain. It is a disgrace
Dave Ramsey is a boomer
2 1/2 hours isn’t that bad to me. Assuming he means A little over an hour each way
That’s what I thought until they verified that is 2.5 hours away! That’s a hard pass.
You are literally the only person assuming that
@@lizamarie3472 oh did they? I never finished it so I missed it I guess
