I know I will never, ever forget this night. I was 19 years old having just finished Air Force Basic Training, driving on I-70 from Columbus, OH to begin Technical Training School at Lowery AFB, Denver, CO. Right as I was passing by the Stadium and the Arch listening to this exact broadcast live on 1120 AM radio, I heard this conclude with that "swing and a miss", as the Cardinals had won Game 7 of the 1982 MLB World Series 6-3...
This guy was the best. I went down to a playoff game that year against the Braves. After they won the game, a lot of fans went down to the street and waited for the players to come out. I'll never forget Andjuar (I know spelling) coming out and being shocked at the number of us and the reaction he got.
Listen to Jack Buck during dramatic moments and listen to Vin Scully during dramatic moments. While Scully was good, Buck was WAY better. Buck had the voice and knew how to convey the drama better than anyone.
The '82 Series was one of the best. The two teams were involved in a big trade that sent Simmons to Milwaukee. I remember Yount was terrific and would have been MVP if Milwaukee won. Cards won game 7 despite leaving 13 men on base.
Thanks so much for posting this! I was in 2nd grade when this happened. Celebrated in my 2nd grade class the next day, play Kool and the Gang on a little tape-recorder!
@@mattandkim17 you are right! But I would have rather had Simmons behind the plate. Personally I thought Willie was the MVP of the series, or Sutter... but Porter was a "story" of beating addition that caught the fancy of the sportswriters.
I know i'm replying to a comment that's a year old, but you don't get that passion anymore because god forbid any announcer show any emotion they get accused of being a "homer" and the opposing team fans get too butthut over it
Jack Buck is my favorite announcer of all time.
Jack Buck was the greatest.
Jack Buck. Thank you.

No one had ever called a baseball game better than Jack Buck.
Including Vin Scully and all the others. Jack Buck was the best!
You can hear the passion in Jack Buck's voice. You don't get that anymore.
Matt Vasgersian...?
Thanks for sharing this! I am wearing my 1982 World Series Championship ring today for good luck in Game 7 tonight!!!
Update: The ring worked

I know how it ends because I've listened to it a million times over the years, but somehow Jack still has me on the edge of my seat with every pitch.
this guy is awesome i wasnt alive to here him live but ive heard a lot of audio an he is so good
I was just 4 years old when they won in '82 so I don't remember this. But it's still exciting to hear this audio!

Jack Buck = KING

I still have a copy of the Post from the day after the win...amazing memories.
They just don't call 'em like this anymore. We'll always love ya, Jack
They say Vin Skully was the best. I think - along with Mel Allen (sp?) Hack was the best.

Wow so awesome to hear. I was 24 and I was THERE (with a radio and earbud so I could hear Jack)!
Amazing how much Sutter in 1982 and Jason Motte looked, especially after nailing down the clincher, with their arms raised in the air.
When I listen to this, I miss being a kid :*(
2 people are clearly Brewers fans!
10:22 pm CDT 10-28-2011 St. Louis win world series.
Whitey was a good manager but he did some head scratching moves... getting rid of Simmons for Darryl Porter being one.
Simmons was a fan favorite but Porter was the mvp of the series.

@@kimoandrews5802 great memories. I can’t believe it’s been 40+ years ago!
Also gone are the days when fans ran onto the field! Only time you see a fan on the field is if they're a doped up streaker!
Cardinal Nation :)
once again St. Louis will win with 6 runs. 6-2 this time.
@RetroBoyWontDie That's so brilliantly funny and true, I laughed for ten minutes when I read this...amen brother!
The Red Dynasty!

the guy who was the Brewers closed in 82 looks about as silly as that Axford guy
Rollie Fingers? He's a Hall of Famer.
Former Cub gets a former Cardinal to open the ninth....
