  • Michaels is now carrying in store the new Caron x Pantone yarn. I picked up three for the buy 2 get 1 free sale. They are beautiful, but are they worth it?
This is my opinion on the new yarn.

Your's is the third review I've listened to about this yarn and you all agree. Too little yarn too much price.

This is gonna bomb. Yarnspirations should know crocheters better than that - we want nice yarn, generous yardage and reasonable price. There are so many yarns on the market that fit this bill. I don’t make hats and I’m not going to spend $100 or more to make a baby blanket. What were they thinking?

I ended up buying only 1 (morning blues). Michaels still had a 50% off coupon (which made it $4), so it wasn't TERRIBLY priced to just try it out. However, I realized that they only thing I can make with it... is a hat. Kinda a bummer. What IS nice about it, is if you really like the color combo, you can just carry that around the yarn section and pick out similar colors. Probably not what they're going for, though. XD

@Anita Wukkuams OH YES I would for 60& off as buying 3 you are getting 66 yards more than 1 Caron Simply Soft, and most define\tl;y can Crochet up a GORGEOUS ELEGANT SHAWL. Also, I most definitely would Crochet HATS--plural as could Crochet up some and even buying only 1 60% off I certainly would to Crochet up 1 hat. Also, the amounts of having of few colors are perfect for making accessories/ buttons---ANY CROCHETED UP ANY BEAUTIFUL SMALL EMBELLISHMENTS TO STITCH ONTO A GARMENT AS A GREAT CONTRASTING OF COLOURS OR USING ANY COLOUR SHADES THAT WILL DRAW A VERY COMPLIMENTiNG GARMENT TO PEOPLES EYES EVERYWHERE YOU ARE AT, GOING TO OR JUST OUT SNF ABOUT. W O W MY THINKING WHEELS IS CONTINUALLY SPINNING MANY ITEMS OF HAVING GREAT POTENTIAL. A WIN WIN FOR ME, Hon, RHE LORD Bless you most abundantly in, of every aspect, all, every part of your life my dear as HE jusr keeps pouring down upon and filling me the abundance of HIS forever flowing blessings and as El Shaddai--God Almighty just keeps fulfilling to me HIS promise "I will orovide" as HE has so many times by many different avenues of the path of from where or bt HIM using people to bless me by as many times HE ha swnt them to me saying they want to pay for any yrn I need or just wants to have. Also at times they will just buy and surprise me with yarns they wanted to by for me that drew their ryrs to baeutiful yarn colouts they just feel would love to have. Once a lady I did not even know, and she came over from another line to the cashier I was at and told the cashier she will pay for my purchases---my total was $60,00 AND YES THE LADY THE LORD AND SAVIOUR YAHOSHUA TOLD THE RUACH HOKADESH--THE HOLY SPIRIT TO VERY STRONGLY HAVE HER TO FEEL HIS PROMPTIMG AND TELL HER TO GO OVER TO MY CASHIER AND TO PAY FOR MY PUTCHASES. AND YES SHE ALSO IS A VERY BELIVING IN 'THE WORD" WHO IS YAHOSHUA THE MESSIAH==THE CHRIST--THE ANOINTED ONE.

Sorry for the additional comment, but for maybe $2 -3 more you can get about 200 yards of 100% superwash wool that is in a ball/skein you can already use! Doesn’t make sense to me. I appreciated your review and honest opinion!

When I first heard that Caron was collaborating with Pantone I was so excited! After seeing how they are doing this I’m VERY disappointed. I would hate to have to make five tiny balls of yarn. Plus, there is not enough of any one color to make a project. 127 yards ALL TOGETHER? I’m not a huge fan.

    • @cheryllwaldrop9732
      @cheryllwaldrop9732 3 роки тому +1

Thank, you that is the answer I was looking for 127 yards for all colors combined? A have a hat pattern that is supposed to use one package, and from the wonky way they combined the colors, I have to think there won't be any leftover yarn to speak of.

I agree with you! I think the hank pack is a gimmick to create the illusion of a high quality product. I love your comment about connecting them and putting them in cakes. Adding more yardage for the price, I’m with you, I like a bargain also. Too much hassle with the unwinding.

I just bought the coconut cream for a christening blanket, and I am going to return it. My knitting group has nothing good to say about this yarn. It is super splitty, the knots and joins don't hold, they are advertising it as a bulky when it isn't, it is a worsted to aran weight yarn at the most. I bought 6 braids of this. And now it is going back.

  • @sandygrogg8209

I don’t like the Pantone skeins at all? I don’t like the fact that there is such a little bit of yarn, for nearly $8 a skein,,And the colors are not that great.. Just my opinion, I saw Crystal’s review if this yarn, and she was not impressed.. I don’t think it will sell well, after the first rush to try a new product is over.
Your blanket is amazing... I just don’t get how pooling works...but it looks pretty good.

I agree with your assessment of the product. The colors are very nice but dollar for dollar , I'll take a Cake, a mandala or better yet some beautiful hand dyed sock yarn that offers 75-80% wool and 20% nylon that comes in Hanks of 400 + yards.
Value for the dollar is very important when I shop for yarn. Quality, yardage, fiber content are all important to me.

I agree with you 100%. I bought one yesterday to try out. This morning I spent nearly an hour separating the hanks and winding it , this again added time before I could use it. I crochet, so I chained 65 stitches , connected ends and am making a neck warmer for work. At 65 chain and hdc each color gives 3 rows with a 5.25 mm hook. My neck warmer Will be 15 rows. Btw it splits easily. Not worth the time and money.

I agree. Most people knit and crochet so everyone knows how much yarn crochet takes up. You can just buy these colours in 100g balls from whatever brand you like and make something bigger.

IT DOES SPLIT BIG TIME, TO EXSPENSIVE, we can ball up our own solids, i have paint cards to help match colors. This is not going to last long. My size it would cost $200.00 to make a sweater
This is only ok if you wanna just want to make a hat
Your opionion is the same as every tutorial i have watched on it.
But when worked up it splits bad.
Whole cosept im sure was trying to save on yarn managment. I rather do yarn managment.
Love your opionion. Your dead on correct

Absolutely agree that it is a ridiculous and grossly overpriced (mostly acrylic) product that you need to wind into 25 yard balls before using. Some of the colour ways are pretty and I'd use them to match larger, worsted weight balls of yarn (made by another company).

It's a shame it's so expensive and the yardage is so small, because the actual yarn looks luscious. Maybe Caron can take your advice and put the small skeins into a cake. Have a good day!

$7.99 Is pricey but use a 50% off coupon to make it affordable. Smells like yarn guy did a review & made a knitted hat & this yarn has great stitch definition & said it was great to work with. This yarn will probably be a once & done item.

I think "hat" is the point for most knitters who decide to try this yarn. I found just the right hat pattern for Caron X Pantone, bought 2 braids in Strawberry Chill at 50% off, and knitted a warm and lovely Ombre Cable Hat. Couldn't be more pleased, enjoyed the process and the result.

I’m subscribing to your channel based on this. I appreciate your honesty and I agree whole heartedly! It’s a gimmick. Packaging to look like high end homespun natural fibers without the homespun quality. The cakes, or even simply soft are a better value and about the same quality. It’s disappointing.

  • @paulacuevas3302
    @paulacuevas3302 6 років тому +1

I totally agree with you. There is no way there is enough for a good project. It’s not worth the price. I have found beautiful Marino wool cheaper than that and made matching hats for my Granddaughters. I wouldn’t waste my money. There is to many nice yarns out there way cheaper. You can buy 4 different colors when on sale and use your Michaels or JoAnns coupons and spend just a little over that price and make a couple sets of Hats. Just my opinion....

the only way i would see this being 'popular' is for those that need to create something to specifically match pantone colors with others items, such as team colors, printed materials, etc. but even with that, one would need more than 127 yards, yes? :-)

It's necessary to keep one's expectations in line with the nature of this product. I bought two skeins in the colorway Strawberry Chill to knit the Ombre Cable Hat, and couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out. It's the loveliest hat I've knitted so far, and it is very warm and comfortable. I'm glad I bought more colors of Caron X Pantone when it went on sale at Michaels about a year ago. I just started another hat in the same pattern but a different colorway. I knew going in that the high price and limited yardage meant that I'd be using it for something small.

Agree with everyone else, not interested in this yarn. Saw it in Michaels and thought it was WAY overpriced even on sale for what it was and didn't even see a color-way that I liked. It was like they said "How about we pick 4 murky grayed colors and throw in one bright one so it looks REALLY out of place." And I hate splity yarn. I'm so glad I walked by. I can buy much nicer yarn at that price.

As for mittens n hats I'll stick to local spun 100 % sheep or alpaca wool. N support my local wool spinners, they are cheaper than this plastic stuff. N Yes your paying for the names I have to agree with you n a try crochet project you will see how it splits.

How? By cutting the colors as you get to them if they're not the ones you want to use? Say you come upon two colors you're not ready to use? You skip those? Wind them up separately or together? Cut up the whole cake? Is there a video or instructions online? I'd love to see. I love self-striping cakes, but I'm not always crazy about color order.

I bought and used a LOT of these from Michaels at half price 4.33 a braid and made a bunch of varied slouch hats to sell. It works up beautifully and 4,33 a hat is not pricey at all. Simple to wind. See Mikey on Yarnspirations.

This is a really good example of why we should all educate ourselves on our craft. There doesn't seem to be a secure understanding of yarn weights, bases, plys or packaging, it's more of a box store crochet shopper review. Which is certainly a ton of us but I always dislike the putting down of those that shop outside of Michaels and Hobby Lobby and it's 99% of the time crocheters that do this .if you shop outside of box stores, than you are used to "hanks" and using a swift or winding them into a ball . handspun and and dyed yarns are mostly packaged this way. When you see "3 ply or "multi stranded" it means that it is several strands TWISTED together during winding it into the form of a hank, skein, cake etc in order to get the weight or thickness (1, 2, 3, bulky, fingering,dk, sock, etc.). For crocheters, the twisting in the opposite direction while crocheting will eventually cause the twists to unwind or "separate" as she says unless you have already experienced this and are able to figure out to start with the other end of the yarn (think center pull vs outside end). It is incredibly frustrating especially if you are a fast crocheter. Knitters will be used to this and probably won't have concerns. Multi stranded makes a nice twist in a finished knitted fabric which is why most acrylic looks and functions much better for crochet. These ARE kits so they're meant to be only a certain yardage of each color depending on the kit. The point WAS to give "fancier" options at box store prices. Crocheting does average using 30% more yarn for a project. They were trying to include crocheters and knitters by giving pattern options for both and I thought they looked pretty good in the Crochet Crowd unveiling video I saw. If you ever attend a sheep and wool , yarn or fiber festival, you will see tons of booths carrying kits multihanked like this and small twisted fingering weight hanks called "single" and "minis". They are great for colorwork or changing colors in the yoke of a sweater, gloves, socks, pom poms etc. Yes, this is gimmicky but it is also legit as far as yarn really is packaged this way and made of other fibers than acrylic and cotton. There are soooo many different kinds of wool as well , sheep, llamas, alpacas, rabbits from all over the world can determine the feel and texture of the actual wool . You may find one that doesn't irritate your skin and it will open up a whole new world (and a hole in your wallet too)! In my area, I NEVER buy from a box store without a coupon and luckily they all, except Hobby Lobby, will take each others coupons. Happy Hooking and Knitting!

mykeepgal thank you for your comment. And I do agree with you. I don’t mind paying for good yarn/wool/fiber. I love my local mom and pop store so please don’t get me wrong. I just feel for what I’m getting I’m paying more for a name and not Caron. I feel it’s Pantone that I’m paying for. It is beautiful yarn and it works up lovely.

Wasn’t thrilled with the initial price but I got mine for 1/2 price from michaels so I took that as a sign to buy the entire collection minus one because they were out. If you’ve ordered from michaels then you know you generally have to get sets. I ended up with 27 color ways and three of each. Pricey for sure but I really like the colors and the option to change up projects. I wouldn’t make one thing out of them but I like incorporating them in other projects and making them more realistically priced. I spent like 300$ on them so they’ll get used lol

Wow you guys are complaining about the price here in Montreal Canada it is at 10$. The only reason I bought it is that we have a 55% off coupon this week

Yup. Totally a gimmick, just like the cakes were only a few years ago. I can tell just by watching these videos that it's not a 5 bulky wgt...I would wager that some Bernat Pop (labeled as 4) would be a thicker yarn. It feels to me that Yarnspirations is stuck on the gimmicks and forgetting to actually just make good yarn in the last years. 🤔

I don't think it is fancy at all think it is like pretending to be fancy. I am not a fan. They could have at least tried and had 200 yards. i feel like this will flop. And I am sad they did not try to do something better. This was poorly executed.

I found this yarn to be a pain in the butt, not enough yarn for the trouble 127 yards, 5 little balls that you have to work together to get what??? It is a gimmick, paying for the name I bought 1 got one free and it still doesn't matter I can't use this yarn.
