“Left your balls in the cutting room floor” is about the fact that Hollywood in America actually censored the original Godzilla’s political message about the horror of Nuclear War and Nuclear Testing. He’s basically saying the Godzilla’s strong message was censored, neutered. Cut his metaphorical balls off.
“no way your ass-brain is hanging with these monkey bars” Fun Fact: Godzilla has two brains, one in his skull where it should be, and the other is in his ass (technically it’s where his tail meets his torso, but same difference really)
As a bonafide Godzilla junkie (complete with $2k in Godzilla tattoos), the references in this battle were absolutely not the casual, wiki-researched material I was expecting. There were some DEEP cuts. The “ass-brain” line was a reference to Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 where they tried to kill him by destroying a secondary brain in the lower spine. The “you didn’t get cooler in the 90’s” was partly a reference to the ‘98 film (as evidenced by the Ferris Bueller bar) but was ALSO a reference to Godzilla vs Destoroyah in ‘94 where he died by melting down (supported by the “destroy ya” line). The “recycled crap like All Monsters Attack” might have been the deepest cut though. Also called “Godzilla’s Revenge”, it was probably the weakest entry because of Minilla but ALSO because of the heavy use of stock footage. This battle was 100% written by another lifelong Godzilla fan, there’s no doubt in my mind.
No so sure about that. It is true Kong wants some companionship because it's normally accepted (depending on the reboot universe) he's the last of his line. And not only did they lose the lawsuit against Nintendo, they ended up having to pay a large sum of money to Nintendo in the end. The whole "Hollywood left your balls on the cutting room floor." could have two meanings. The first being that in the Japanese films, they made no effort to hide the fact that Godzilla was a product of nuclear war, mainly when the US bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Though in the American made movie of 1998, they rather downplayed that detail...like they didn't have the balls to call themselves out in such a way. Though, also in that movie, they made Godzilla a female that could reproduce asexually and one of the whole points of the movie was Godzilla came to the city to find a safe place to lay her eggs. With Pacific Rim, the first movie did rather well but most people would agree that Pacific Rim 2 was a massive flop that failed hard. Minilla (Mini Godzilla) was the name of Godzilla's baby/son he had in one of the earlier Japanese films. "Damn I despise you" (5 syllables) "You make weak tokusatsu" (7 syllables) "Soft like some tofu" (5 syllables) That is in fact, a haiku made by a kaiju. For the Brian Cranston line, In the Godzilla remake, probably one of the biggest named actors in the movie was Brian Cranston and they killed him off early on in the first act of the movie after making it seem like he was going to have a much bigger role.
Minilla is one of Godzilla's offspring. (Also the "destroy ya" line is a reference to one of Godzilla's enemies Destoroyah.) And Donkey Kong is inspired by King Kong and another word for donkey is ass. So by changing the name King Kong to Donkey Kong, Nintendo figuratively made an ass out of King Kong.

Also, next to the haiku my favorite line would be the Ghidorah one, because he wasn't just talking about triple digits, he was actually saying in triplets, bc he switched his flow to triplets for that section, since Ghidorah has three heads
Yeah, honestly, it's a perfect setup for Godzilla to made a rebuttal to the previous line too. Imagine he said something like, “0-2? More like Minus One.” 🤯
Godzilla was inspired by the bomb, but specifically the Castle Bravo disaster, where we treated our first h-bomb on an island in the pacific and ended up irradiating some Japanese fishing vessel who hadn't been told they were in the fallout zone. Godzilla was literally a metaphor, and then in the US they completely cut that out because it was "anti American." Kyle Hill has an incredible video on the castle bravo disaster.
"I'll make an ass out of you like Nintendo did" is actually a reference to a court case Between Nintendo and King Kong's owner. You see when Nintendo first released the Donkey Kong arcade game, Universal Studios (King Kong's "owners") tried to sue Nintendo for copyright infringement on King Kong's name. Not only did Nintendo win the lawsuit, but they also showed that King Kong was in public domain, meaning that Universal never owned King Kong in the first place. It was so bad that even the Judge for the case questioned Universal on why they thought the lawsuit was a good idea. The verse is Godzilla basically saying that King Kong is such a joke that Nintendo made him their bitch, crazy verse of Godzilla's part Fr🔥🔥
"Hollywood left your balls on the cutting room floor" is a reference to the 98 Godzilla, which neutered Godzilla so much that Toho said "they took the God out of Godzilla." It nearly caused an international incident
I think it's more a reference to how gutted the og movie was, as it made it clear that the atomic bombings caused godzilla to exist, but the american version removed that because...well, duh
Mathew Brodrick play Ferris Bueller and starred in the 90s remake of Godzilla in that movie they cut his message against nuclear war and made him female so i assume the cutting off his balls line is about one if not both of those things
I loved the 98 movie so much as well. But i think the major issue was that it was a Godzilla movie. Had it been a generic monster movie it might have been received better.
I feel like Godzilla cooked Kong While Kong was good in the defence He didn’t attack enough But a rap battle is breaking people down so Godzilla put in the work
The Nintendo line was just as brutal as the Empire line: Universal tried suing Nintendo over their use of Donkey KONG & lost badly. The balls left on the cutting room floor is based on the US removing all references of US atomic testing making Godzilla. & making Godzilla lay eggs in that one movie. More lines backfire on Kong than Godzilla. Godzilla tagging in for Frankenstein was from King Kong vs Godzilla '62. It was Toho's 10th anniversary & thought King Kong vs Frankenstein wouldn't be big enough. Result: Godzilla is now the longest running franchise in cinema history. Kong tried to come back, but Universal AGAIN messed that up for themselves. Currently, the MonsterVerse can use Kong so long as they do not refer to him as King Kong. The Godzilla Anime (Films & Series) did better than Kong's. AND Godzilla latest solo feature (Minus One) is considered one of the best films ever made, period. Here's to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters bringing my bois back together again. Pretty good show.
Such a great battle they pulled out references of the references will help to explain some of them. First off the line "the mammal help raise you up" is reference to king kong vs godzilla 1962. After Godzilla 1954 and godzilla raids again 1955 they just stopped making godzilla movies until the pitch of having the two titans clash king kong and godzilla. Which led to godzilla making more movies after the success of the film. Minilla is godzilla kid which is a child which led to godzilla being more friendly then evil monster of the early films. Which is why king kong made a reference "how could you make a kid if your suit is made of rubber". The Bryan Cranston line is reference to Godzilla 2014 the best actor of the film just to die in the first act which made the film drop in quality. Also love that they showed king kong on the ballons show how king kong vs godzilla 1962 a way to transport king kong to godzilla and king kong use a tree on godzilla throat. That's everything so far there might be more but great reaction.
5:35 I could be wrong, but I think Kong is referencing how Godzilla's popularity started to decline after Godzilla Raids Again, then shot back up in the first Godzilla vs Kong movie. And then there's also how more people liked the new Godzilla vs Kong movie compared to Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Which, if true, is Kong's way of saying: "You'd be dead without me!" And I think that's a cool diss
You're correct. It's in reference to the original Godzilla Vs King Kong movie doing so well it effectively saved the Godzilla franchise. It's also a reference to skull island being the most profitable monsterverse movie at the time which is why Godzilla Vs Kong was made. It's a layered reference and a great bar
5:35 "Which one are you more likely to see in a solo movie?" Well Kong came first in '33, and since then he's had a movie just about him, a Japanese solo movie in 1967 where he fought Mechani-Kong, a remake to the 1933 one in '76 that is just about him, another two remakes in 1998 and 2005 also just about him then the same thing in 2017. The only non-solo movies he's had are King Kong vs. Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Kong (also the new one coming out this year), where Kong himself helped boost sales frankly. Meanwhile Godzilla's had movies with lots of other popular monsters featured in the titles (as 'versus' movies) and posters: Anguirus, Mothra (multiple times), Rodan, Jet Jaguar, Megalon, Gigan, Titanosaurus, King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, Destoroyah, Megaguirus... the list goes on. Kong has had more solo films overall, but he also hasn't been milked anywhere near as much as Godzilla lol
The "Balls on the Cutting Room Floor" line is because they made Godzilla female in the 90s movie and laid eggs when his gender's always been ambiguous (Though we refer to Godzilla as he) in all other movies.
It's also a reference to how the anti nuclear war aspect is downplayed in the U.S. films. 2014 for example was going to heavily play into that element, but the military threatened them so we ended up getting a neutered version of the film.
8:18 - the key to the bar is in the line right before it. King Kong says that in Japan, Godzilla was a metaphor for nuclear war. -The Hollywood version cut ALL references to nuclear / atomic weaponry, and added in new material. Hence, effectively “neutering” the film and its message (also, “balls” may double as a reference to the bombs, which are spherical in shape).
First of all, I have to say you have the best voice. I love listening to you talk because your voice is very soothing. And second of all I loved watching your reaction. I personally think Godzilla won, but it was close, and they both were amazing.
Cutting room floor means a part of a movie that was removed The line is a double entante with castration The oxygen destroyer is also a reference to the movie King of The Monsters
Essentially what happened was Universal tried to sue Nintendo over copyright thinking King Kong was derivative of DK, and since Universal didn't actually own the rights to King Kong Nintendo made absolute asses of them in court
THANK YOU! I have listened to this song a bunch since it came out and prob 6 different reactions and NOBODY (myself included) made the band Gojira (who I listen to) connection and as soon as you did I had to pause and walk away with a face palm because of what you said about their “monster verses” but also, they founded the band with the name Godzilla originally. Ok. It’s official. I thought it was another Hitler/Vader story set up but now I know it has to be. Can’t wait for Godzilla Kong 2. There is enough left unsaid for it, maybe not a 3rd but they HELLA SMART, if anyone can make it 3 it’s them. OH WAIT! How many movie incarnations of this battle was there? Are they gonna make the same amount of rap battles?
Think kong was saying that learns signs language from scientist daughter who deaf, where as Godzilla has the monarch dr daughter who isn’t deaf but uses electro raves to communicate with Godzilla
4:12, Hollywood try to sue Nintendo because of Donkey Kong. Hollywood lost, and Nintendo beat the shit out of Hollywood; therefore, Donkey Kong remains alive today. That is what Godzilla meant.
Most people miss it but Godzilla's opening line is the same opening line from Who Am I by Snoop Dogg, hence the "Don't you quote Snoop to me" line by Kong
The Nintendo thing also references when Universal tried to sue Nintendo back when they were developing the original Donkey Kong arcade game for the use of "Kong", which is a battle that Nintendo won.
@WHAT IT DO DAVE the “worst Kaiju comeback than pacific rim 2” is referring to how bad of a rating pacific rim 2 got The Ferris one is referring to Godzilla 1998 The “sh!t you threw” line is referring to when chimpanzees throw their feces The barkley line is referring to Chris Barkley from the NBA who has a One on One game of basketball with Godzilla at the base of Mt Fuji
Make an ass outta you like nintendo did. There's a reference to the lawsuit but also just wordplay going on. Another name for Donkey is an Ass. Godzilla is calling Donkey Kong just Ass Kong.
As good as the cgi is for UA-cam, I think it would probably have been better if it was regularily animated. And if it was animated by thr guys who did thr villain and hero bowls, it would be such a great collab
7:30, It's the son of Godzilla. Send Minya/Minilla to fight Kong because King Kong wastes Godzilla's time. He might as well fight against Minya instead. That was Godzilla's insult to Kong.
The Nintendo reference also is talking about how RKO tried suing Nintendo over Donkey Kong and lost They ended up paying 1.8 million to Nintendo in damages Monster verse more likely is referencing the Monsterverse line of films
King Kong vs Godzilla is the 3rd in the series, the first Godzilla movie in color and essentially jump-started the franchise as we know it by setting the tone for the series up until the first reboot in 1983. And after Godzilla: King of The Monsters (2019) did sub-optimally, Godzilla vs Kong brought the Monsterverse back from the brink of cancellation by outperforming the other films in the franchise once again. So Kong's line about nursing films back to health does have some weight to it, Kong was there before Godzilla and he's been there for Godzilla twice now in two extremely pivotal moments in the franchise's history.
Make an "ass" out of you refers to a Donkey hence Donkey Kong also they tried to sue Nintendo and Nintendo ended up winning and getting even more money from them which made them an "ass" again.
kong went absoulutely insane with "go ahead and glow blue ima make you code blue im an oxygen destroyer now you're O2" but godzilla won it for me with the haiku and "i spit the verse to turn skull island into pompeii (which is the volcano that turned pompeii to ashes) and the rabbit flur flambe referancing kongs og suit having rabbit fur and the flambe rhyming with harambe "saddest death of a gorilla since harambe"
As a poet, a haiku is 17: 5-7-5 damn I despise you (damn i des-pise you) you make weak tokusatsu (you make weak to-ku-sat-su) soft like some tofu (soft like some to-fu)
the "ass out of you like nintendo did" is probably more of a reference to the name of donkey kong. donkeys are also called asses Also manilla is the adopted son of godzilla and by far the goofiest, least threathening looking kaiju, he actually looks kinda similar to a chubby 3 year old and yes in the first Monsterverse movie Bryan Cranson died in the first act
“I’ll make an ass out of you like Nintendo did” Because another word for Donkey is ass. By making him into Donkey Kong, they literally made him into an ass (although to be fair they are different characters).
So when kong said bring a Mail into the mix to fill up the seats or whatever he ment back in the 60 Godzilla was dying because the last movie was ass so they went and got rights to put Kong in the movie and that was one of the most popular movie back in the day and revived both Godzilla and Kong so that’s what he ment
The nintendo line is based on a few things. "Ill make an ass out of you like Nintendo did" Donkey=ass Donkey kong was inspired from King Kong Back when donkey kong was made it was due to the owner of the rights if king kong giving permission for other companies to use king kong. They eventually tried to sue Nintendo but lost and had to pay a fine.

The mocap is basically what Calliope Mori does for her live 3D shows.
“The Russian Badger” as well.
8:39 Zilla was literally female and laid eggs in the 1990's Roland Emmerich "masterpiece."
5:35
I could be wrong, but I think Kong is referencing how Godzilla's popularity started to decline after Godzilla Raids Again, then shot back up in the first Godzilla vs Kong movie.
And then there's also how more people liked the new Godzilla vs Kong movie compared to Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Which, if true, is Kong's way of saying:
"You'd be dead without me!"
And I think that's a cool diss
You're correct. It's in reference to the original Godzilla Vs King Kong movie doing so well it effectively saved the Godzilla franchise. It's also a reference to skull island being the most profitable monsterverse movie at the time which is why Godzilla Vs Kong was made. It's a layered reference and a great bar
I would love to see a King Kong movie where Kong and Anne Dawn Darrow become a couple.
The "monster verse" part is a reference to the warner Bros and Legendary studios kaiju Cinematic universe which is called the monsterverse.
The 1st king Kong movie came out in 1933. The 1st godzilla came out in 1954
A donkey is also called an ass. That's what the "ass out of you" donkey kong reference was.
4:30 “made an ass out of your like Nintendo did” has another level. Donkey = ass
Godzilla definitely won that one. Great reaction as always!
the ryan cranston reference is 2014 godzilla when he died in the first act of the movie
Talk abt timing lol, I opened UA-cam about to search for erb reactions when u were in my for u page
5:35 "Which one are you more likely to see in a solo movie?"
Well Kong came first in '33, and since then he's had a movie just about him, a Japanese solo movie in 1967 where he fought Mechani-Kong, a remake to the 1933 one in '76 that is just about him, another two remakes in 1998 and 2005 also just about him then the same thing in 2017.
Literally every single person who reacts to this: "Why you gotta do Jack Black like that?"
Because it’s an honest question
0-2, O2 is the formula for oxygen gas.
And for a double entendre, he’s 0 - 2, in this rap battle.
As in; according to Kong, he lost two rounds
8:18 - the key to the bar is in the line right before it.
King Kong says that in Japan, Godzilla was a metaphor for nuclear war.
-The Hollywood version cut ALL references to nuclear / atomic weaponry, and added in new material. Hence, effectively “neutering” the film and its message (also, “balls” may double as a reference to the bombs, which are spherical in shape).
This is probably a reach but “got no fear of Gojira…Monster verse” Eminem has the songs Godzilla and Monster
The monster verse is the cinematic universe with godzilla kong and the kaijus
First of all, I have to say you have the best voice. I love listening to you talk because your voice is very soothing. And second of all I loved watching your reaction. I personally think Godzilla won, but it was close, and they both were amazing.
Does this deserve to be in the ERB Slaughter matches? My Goat Godzilla absolutely cooked Kong i'm gonna be real with you
Def not that. Kong didn't even need to speak to drop bombs on Godzilla. Sign language bar was nuclear.
Def not that. Kong didn't even need to speak to drop bombs on Godzilla. Sign language bar was nuclear.
@@Deejay-z8f You know what else was nuclear? The real beatdown Godzilla gave Kong unlike Jussie Smollett.
@TyeGraybill-um4do Kong won this. His 2nd round killed all 3 of Godzillas. Not to mention the dunked on you like Barkley line
We can't be walking past the facts Kong was spitting with " bring the mammal in to nurse your films back to health" @@TyeGraybill-um4do
Cutting room floor means a part of a movie that was removed
The line is a double entante with castration
The oxygen destroyer is also a reference to the movie King of The Monsters
My take on the Nintendo bar was a reference to Donkey Kong. Donkey also are called asses. Might be a double though or triple. 🤷♂️
Essentially what happened was Universal tried to sue Nintendo over copyright thinking King Kong was derivative of DK, and since Universal didn't actually own the rights to King Kong Nintendo made absolute asses of them in court
I know you already reacted to an Epic the Musical Ruthless animatic but gigi just released one and it’s gorgeous! Definitely worth a reaction!
I'm glad other people liked the anime
Minilla is Godzillas son name
For anyone curious, Minilla was the adopted son of Godzilla back in the 1967’s.
“Here comes the airplane” was wild
Most people miss it but Godzilla's opening line is the same opening line from Who Am I by Snoop Dogg, hence the "Don't you quote Snoop to me" line by Kong
hey dave minilla is godzilla son
The Nintendo thing also references when Universal tried to sue Nintendo back when they were developing the original Donkey Kong arcade game for the use of "Kong", which is a battle that Nintendo won.
ERB on top
This is fire bro
I thought the same thing with the "Gojira" bit LOOOL I saw em live in August in Pittsburgh, they slap!
@WHAT IT DO DAVE the “worst Kaiju comeback than pacific rim 2” is referring to how bad of a rating pacific rim 2 got
The Ferris one is referring to Godzilla 1998
The “sh!t you threw” line is referring to when chimpanzees throw their feces
The barkley line is referring to Chris Barkley from the NBA who has a One on One game of basketball with Godzilla at the base of Mt Fuji
"I'll make an ass out of you like Nintendo did"
Ass is another word for Donkey.
Kong went from being a King to being an ass.
7:30, It's the son of Godzilla. Send Minya/Minilla to fight Kong because King Kong wastes Godzilla's time. He might as well fight against Minya instead. That was Godzilla's insult to Kong.
The line “make an A out of you like Nintendo did” is referring to the name DONKEY Kong.
The Nintendo reference also is talking about how RKO tried suing Nintendo over Donkey Kong and lost
They ended up paying 1.8 million to Nintendo in damages
Monster verse more likely is referencing the Monsterverse line of films
Hi there really enjoying your reaction, Manila is Godzilla’ offspring.
Mad respect for defending the Godzilla anime trilogy.
Godzilla solo movie any day just look how awesome Godzilla -1 was
Straight…up…VILE! These two ABSOLUTELY BEEFING! And I have to say that energy Godzilla had…just DANG BRUH!
6:13 Yeah Godzilla vs Kong Movie
“Ass” is another word for “Donkey”
Donkey Kong
Manilla is godzilla's son, kid godzilla.
the "left your balls on the cutting room floor." was reference to them removing all the reference of godzillas parallel of nuclear war.
The monster verse is whats Godzilla's universe is known as.
Although I think you could argue the Monsterverse movies were what got Kong back into the limelight.
Actually balls on the cutting room floor is a reference to godzilla being female and getting a sex change operation Actually
Make an "ass" out of you refers to a Donkey hence Donkey Kong also they tried to sue Nintendo and Nintendo ended up winning and getting even more money from them which made them an "ass" again.
BC in BB is dying of cancer in the first act, then dies at the end. Think that's what they were going for there.
Bryan Cranston starred in the 2014 Godzilla movie and they killed him off in the first act of the movie. That’s what the reference is talking about.
kong went absoulutely insane with "go ahead and glow blue ima make you code blue im an oxygen destroyer now you're O2" but godzilla won it for me with the haiku and "i spit the verse to turn skull island into pompeii (which is the volcano that turned pompeii to ashes) and the rabbit flur flambe referancing kongs og suit having rabbit fur and the flambe rhyming with harambe "saddest death of a gorilla since harambe"
King Kong’s sign language bar and Godzilla’s haiku pretty much equal each other out, in my opinion.
Kong had the arms, Godzilla had the moves and arrogance! Both had the bars, so tie!
As a poet, a haiku is 17: 5-7-5
damn I despise you (damn i des-pise you)
you make weak tokusatsu (you make weak to-ku-sat-su)
soft like some tofu (soft like some to-fu)
Bryan Cranston was in Godzilla (2014) and he died early in the film.
Without question, due to Godzilla having more worldly prominence, Godzilla will have the most solo outings and Kong's solo films are seldom a success.
the "ass out of you like nintendo did" is probably more of a reference to the name of donkey kong. donkeys are also called asses
Also manilla is the adopted son of godzilla and by far the goofiest, least threathening looking kaiju, he actually looks kinda similar to a chubby 3 year old
and yes in the first Monsterverse movie Bryan Cranson died in the first act
Universal sued Nintendo over Donkey Kong. Not only did they lose they had to pay Nintendo.
“I’ll make an ass out of you like Nintendo did”
Because another word for Donkey is ass. By making him into Donkey Kong, they literally made him into an ass (although to be fair they are different characters).
Monster Verse = Monster Universe
Literally the cinematic universe that involves the monsters; King Kong included
Gojira the metal band, also be spitting fire versus as well. Just saying. Two things can be true at once haha.
@@whatitdodave Yeah, that too
So when kong said bring a Mail into the mix to fill up the seats or whatever he ment back in the 60 Godzilla was dying because the last movie was ass so they went and got rights to put Kong in the movie and that was one of the most popular movie back in the day and revived both Godzilla and Kong so that’s what he ment
Minila is Godzilla child, seen in the old ToHo classics
Man I gotta give to Kong. Godzilla was more cut throat but Kong just took it and turned it around and clowned on him.
*laughs in Minus one*
Godzilla 2014 Bryan Cranston dies in the first act of the movie
The nintendo line is based on a few things.
"Ill make an ass out of you like Nintendo did"
Donkey=ass
Donkey kong was inspired from King Kong
Back when donkey kong was made it was due to the owner of the rights if king kong giving permission for other companies to use king kong. They eventually tried to sue Nintendo but lost and had to pay a fine.
Minilla is Godzilla's son.
Minilla is Godzilla’s son in the Showa era so he’s saying “this is kid’s stuff” meaning kong’s raps are weak so send in his son
