My mother Eileen Weldon gave birth to my older brother Neal Raymond Weldon on July 12, 1966 at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood California. My father in attendance at the hospital eagerly awaiting the outcome of my mother's giving birth to their first child. However, it would not be smooth sailing as he was about 2 and a half months premature.
Just so happens that same evening another child was born premature at the same hospital in Inglewood to the parents Angie Dickinson and Burt Bacharach. They named their daughter Nikki.
Now the dilemma told from my mother who passed away many years ago is that there were 2 babies born real close to each other and both were born premature. Yet the hospital only had one Incubator at the time as it was a serious piece of medical equipment during that Era and very expensive.
So what do you imagine the dilemma might be when you have two babies and only one Incubator?
The child born to a dentist and his wife who worked as his bookkeeper didn't have the kind of influence Hollywood starlets married to famous musicians had. So whether it be a manager or agent or the studios themselves. No matter that the fact my brother Neal was born before Nicki Bacharach was, a decision to place Nicki in the Incubator most likely came from these influences and after she survives and goes home make for a great Hollywood story.
Meanwhile my brother lived on his own without any artifical means for 11 hours before he passed away.
My brother whom I never met who was born first and had a right to receive that incubation unit as a life saving method because he was born before 959pm July 12 , 1966.
When I was first told of this story my mother had resentment towards Ms Dickenson. My mother a commoner and Angie a Hollywood starlets were living in completly different realms of Southern California .
When ever police woman would come on TV my mother always changed the channel. She held that grudge against her till mom passed in 2015.
But you know my family never talked about Angie's husband or anything like that. So when I discovered that it was Burt Bacharach then this story really intrigued me more than ever. I had begun learning to play piano and was loving it and exploring g all general of music. So I thought.....
What sort of impact on Burt was the survival of his daughter and directly impacted and inspired to write some of greatest music of his generation and future generations to come?
Some of those tunes are so classic. I dig his music and those songs he wrote and others sang are wonderful
So I wonder maybe just maybe that my brothers death was not in vain so that another child born after my brother on that same day could live and be an inspiration to her songwriting and musically talented dad and his Hollywood starlet wife who got to take their child home after a few months.
Both Burt and Angie are still alive although not together anymore. I wonder if they even knew another child was there when their daughter was born . I wonder if rhe doctors were paid off I wonder if the studios had any influence on the matter.
Few years back I thought Id want to write a letter to Burt and Angie and see if maybe they would be willing to discuss any recollections they may have about this. But decided it's a no go cause I'm sure someone in their encourage might say it brings up complex legal issues and advise them not to communicate with me.
So I'll play a song instead and a smile comes to my face. The older brother of mine who only lived for 11 hours is sitting in heaven looking down and who knows maybe is sitting with Nicki herself looking down on all of us. All and all Nicki had to survive because of the fact her oarents especially her dad touched so many with his songwriting abilities. Of she passes away it doesn't make a good Hollywood news story if she died right away. People wo follow the tabloids et AL. Like those kind of feel good stories. So just gonna let it be. This is the first time I've written about this and the story us based on my recollection of discussion I had with my mother over the years and to my knowledge is factually true thru and thru.....
Any insight if anybody out there knows about this and you wanna chat I'd be more than happy to.
    Otherwise thanks for listining!

There were other probs in that marriage which made it doomed. Burt by his own admission in his autobiography was a player & after 6 months of marriage was already thinking of divorce. Angie has admitted the worst thing she ever did was putting Nikki in that place for 10 years - was it a mental institution? That Angie had to diagnose Nikki herself says quite a lot about the psychiatric profession!

I agree! How about saying “ they put their daughter in an insane asylum “!!?? Jeez Louise! That’s awful to use that terminology plus it was’t a state institution either. Nikki had a lot more wrong than simply Asperger’s Syndrome. She had severe behavioral and personality disorders from likely neurological brain damage following her dangerously early birth, very low birth weight etc I believe Nikki was so hard to manage and Burt said in an interview and his book that Angie was not good dealing with Nikki’s mental illness and made her behavior worse. I think so they could have a life and Angie could go back to work Burt and she made the decision to have her live in a private residential mental heath facility.

Back then they didnt have the diagnosis, medications and understanding we have today. In the beginning there were 5 or 6 couples that would get together for cook outs, parties, and outings etc. Over the years as he got bigger and more out of hand, even as a young kid, I could see the stress of his behavior on his parents (climbing to the roof of the house if you turned your back on him, knocking over a grandfather clock at my parents home, smashing his parents TV so many times they hung it from the ceiling.) causing stress between his parents. They were invited less and less to the get togethers, as everyone had to "Mike-proof" their place before they arrived. His Mother became a recluse and alcoholic and the Father was disengaged and having multiple affairs. Years later, the parents divorced.

What struck me the most in this video is how the parents could just stick there special needs daughter into a home, but then try to reconnect with her years later...when Nikki was obviously already comfortable in that home. Its just like these cases with CPS...they come knocking at yr door and whisk these children away in a "whim".... Doesn't matter at that point about the truth or the honesty about what happened.... Then, you gotta fight fight fight and do every damn obstacle course they have set up for you!¡! My 2girls live up in NY, right above the city, and I tried all they told me to do, except the 1 MAIN, HUGE thing they asked of me n I STUPIDLY didn't do it!! At the time I only had my oldest...and when my 2nd came...I had to be honest n let them know it was the guy they wanted me to leave, so they vith went up to my father and step mother. But its waaaay better than having them down here in PGH......PENNSYLVANIA AT ALL!!!¡!

The wording of 'the child caused marital problems' is language of child Abuse. Children reflect the spirit and lessons to learn from both Parents. Both Parents need to grow as the child grows and that Includes problems along the way. Self reflection is needed. To be put into an institution for 10 years is a sign of serious selfishness by two Parents. Therapy needed to be done. But not Nikki alone. 10 years of therapy for Burt and Angie. Another inescapable TRUTH far too people pay attention to: What goes on inside the womb goes on outside the womb throughout childhood and adulthood. Suicide usually reflects rejection and in the womb Abuse. I sense far more went on From Angie than 'not rest per doctor's orders' which it's defiance reflects one level of selfishness. Sorry to sound so harsh but lessons need be learned from this not sweet talk because they are famous by the insincere.
