Aspergers is a very complex disorder as it is difficult to predict what one may be thinking as to suicidal ideation. Pass no judgement here as this is a lesson for everyone to heed about this moment in time and the irreplaceable lives we connect with. Rest in deep peace Mr. Bacharach - may all the angels in heaven sing for you and your precious daughter. You are deeply missed!

Everyone copes with tragedy in different ways, I think he truly did love his daughter maybe he didn't always know how to show it but he did love her. His ex-wife Angie loved her dearly, took her to movies regularly spent as much time with her as she could took her on vacations. Loved her daughter more then life itself I know that Angie never discusses her daughter as it's just to hard for her. I don't think Burt ever fully know how to deal with it.

I have Asperger's and though the condition has its upsides in the form of high intelligence, excellent logical thinking and cognitive capabilities, talents and perception the torment it has caused me during my whole life is just undescribable. Those who have it and do not suffer should happily live with it. Those have been suffering for years or decades should have the possibility of a medically assisted suicide. Same for schizophrenia. The sucide rates are shockingly high and there are always innocent bystanders who get involved when suicides happen in public places. It takes decades for society to initiate long overdue measures.

I found this video after getting to the first page of Ch 16. I hope he reads the note one day just because she wanted him to. Angie might want to read it too. If you're really into his music AND show business, and you decide to read the book, expect it to take far longer to finish than you thought it would. It's not 'one or two' sittings type of book. I take notes as I go along about all the songs and people I want to look up and listen to when I finish it. He wasn't just about records, he did entire movie scores and broadway shows. He talks a lot about the people he worked with, often with much detail so that it's as if you're going back and reliving it. I just wish I had kept up the piano after my mom gave me a choice whether to keep taking lessons. I didn't know I'd want to try and write songs one day, and it's a huge advantage. If nothing else, I would have bought his sheet music, learned it, and studied it, and I'd have had at my disposal every chord I'd ever need to know of and use. It would have made things much easier now. He should also be given much credit for his arranging, not just songwriting. That's a huge, huge part of the final product, the best examples being Sonny Bono's Alfie and Burt's own version of Close to You, which the Carpenters made better. He's not afraid to admit when he messed up, musically and personally. Every Burt/Hal fan has to read the book. I got lucky, my local library had it. :) P.S. Coincidentally, the copyright date is one year after Hal's death.

Did you ever think that his reading the note would be too painful? As a suicide family member survivor, I could not bring myself to read documents related to my sibling's death for more than 20 years. Each time I tried, the pain overtook me. Only one who has been in Burt's shoes would know the feeling.

No parent should lose a child❤️

  • @ChetLindsay
    @ChetLindsay 10 років тому +16

Watching this interview left me in tears!
I hope no one ever has to experience this type of tragedy!
When a parent loses a child, it is “out of sync.” From what I've observed when my nephew killed himself after killing his pregnant girlfriend, my sister, his mother was emotionally and spiritually destroyed. She spent many days at the cemetery screaming and crying at my nephew's gravesite, asking "Why did you do this to me? What have I ever done to deserve this?" Her health quickly deteriorated and within four years, she died in front of her youngest son.
Upon seeing this, I must say this, people process grieve in an individual manner and when a parent loses a child, especially to suicide, it can destroy a parent and a family. Children are to bury their parents, not the other way around.
So, if you don't like Mr. Bacharach, or you think that he is "self-absorbed" and a "horrible father," please keep this in mind--he is suffering in a way that you will never understand, and hopefully never have to!!
He is in a “private hell” that has aged him and possibly will shorten his lifespan.
Peace and Love to all of you!
    Chet

I grew up with his music and many times a man who is successful in his field, neglects his wife and family. I am sure it was hard to juggle both when he was a genius and perfectionist. And she must have been more needy bc of the Asperger’s.

It is true. A child wrote a note at the most vulnerable (and he says brave), lowest point int their lives, and he will not even acknowledge it by reading it.
      That is not acknowledging HER.
I have heard Carole Bayer Sager and Angie speak of him and his narcissism.
It is displayed by the rejection of his daughter by not reading her emotions right before her death.
I grew up with his music, and respect him as a brilliant musician, but his defiance on this subject speaks volumes of who the man really was as a person.

Bacharach - great composer, but absolutely no "husband material". If he could become younger, he would have divorced each wife once again. He visited Nikki so seldom and forced her to stay for 10 years in a wrongly chosen clinic. And now..."it was so hard for me.." while telling Nikkis birth-data by heart in each interview.. and showing off : "I wrote a theme for her..".
