That is such a cool route! In SC I like traveling on SC-72, a route that has some beautiful landmarks around the way and is also a great alternate if you don't want to use I-85, its less busy and goes parallel to the interstate, although its pretty far from the interstate, its totally worth it!
He's doing US 40 next, but from KC to Baltimore. Wait until he goes west out of KC. He'll have to go through the Big L. Maybe he'll do Colorado 71 which is another of the 50 roads through there, but has no interchange with I-70 in that town.
I grew up in far southern Indiana, in the very hilly and forested region that is nothing like flat central Indiana. We drove to Chicago several times, and to Lafayette to visit a good friend at Purdue, and that area is pretty well known to me. The funniest story about Monon - well not really about the town but about the normally excellent Rand McNally atlas - comes to mind when I see the town’s name. I was checking the map as my family was driving up I-65 when I was about 19, and was stunned to see that in the tiny print such a small place gets, the legendarily trustworthy Rand McNally had spelled the town “Moron.” I laughed so hard that had I been driving, I would have gone off the road.
Definitely a very rural road. My list, west-east, is quite simple: U.S. 41-Brook-Monon-Buffalo-Royal Center-Metea-Roann-Huntington. Next summer, when I do another road trip around the country, I’ll get to experience how dull the country roads in Indiana are. Not this route; I’m thinking of using U.S. 50 as a dividing line between north and south, with this upcoming one going east and coming back west following the Gulf Coast and U.S.-Mexico border. Somehow, I knew your intro music would be JCM; up there with Michael Jackson and Babyface among the most popular artists from the state. Going back to my plan to bisect the country via U.S. 50, I’ll get to go through his Small Town hometown!
Hi, Todd! I'm a pastor who lives in Denver, about a block north of SR-16. I've been living here for just over three years. Thank you for doing a video on this highway! I respectfully disagree when you say that it is the dullest road; I think it would be more appropriate to call it the most relaxing highway - or perhaps the least stressful highway - because of its lack of traffic. I very much enjoy driving on it, and I have driven on it many times between SR-25 and SR-13, and I find it to be quite scenic in its own way. For example, I love the way it winds through a forest between US-31 and Denver. Like Royal Center, Denver also has a bike trail converted from an abandoned railroad - the Nickel Plate Trail. If you ever come to Denver, the Farmhouse Cafe is a great place to get breakfast or lunch. They make the VERY BEST sausage-egg-and-cheese biscuits. You should come over here and try them for yourself sometime! Also, I have been to Logansport several times, and it's a good place to come and shop or get a bite to eat. I highly recommend a Mexican restaurant on the east side of town called Mr. Chips & Salsa. It's on Market Street (Old US-24). My favorite dishes to get there are huevos con chorizo and arroz con camerones. You should go there and try them for yourself! And also, you did pronounce "Roann" correctly. Roann has an amazing pizza joint called "Bailey's Pizza Parlor". That's another restaurant you should try! There is a mill in the unincorporated community of Stockdale, which is a mile or so west of Roann, and it is beautiful! My wife loves driving past it! Anyway, thanks again for making this video. It was great to see the highway that passes through my adopted hometown get a UA-cam video all its own!
It's not the dullest. That distinction goes to a couple of roads in central Illinois. I didn't think I would actually find an end to one of them and the other had me question all the decisions I made in my life that lead to that moment.
I'll agree when looking at this road on street view, the eastern half is definitely more scenic than the western portion I've driven. Sounds like awesome restaurants too!
Nice stuff Todd! That’s a very cool route I’ve been on a really weird state route one time. SR-28. It goes through SC twice, GA twice, and enters NC. But it is a pretty good route to use to get to Augusta and some other cities, also has some decent nature I’ve also been on US-221 a few times, it’s also a cool route, FL to VA, I like it more than its relative 421 honestly since it has some very cool stuff along the route
"No Access to I-65." Yeah this can be a lifesaver in the event of trying to navigate around traffic jams. Was coming home from the Indiana Dunes (I recommend this over Indiana Beach, but that's just my bias against theme parks. Being autistic can be quite the handicap there so I'm not gonna knock on Todd here for something that means so much to him) one year, and right at Exit 215 (the exit for Indiana Beach if you're coming from north. Longtime watcher, first time commenter if you can't figure it out. Can claim a pre-1K badge lol) traffic like stopped. It wasn't stop and go, JUST STOPPED. Got off at that exit and you could see traffic just wasn't moving from the ramp alone, and it was stretching for miles. So navigating country roads to get around the mess IN-16 was found. Now traffic was REALLY BAD in this situation... you couldn't even get onto I-65 and it was even backing up past the ramps themselves and onto US-231. Felt like it was straight out of a Cities Skylines save file (Petition for Todd to play that game so he can delete those Limon Signs in a Denver map and replace them lol) where I-65's traffic jam began to bleed onto connecting routes. That is unless you went on the IN-16 Overpass. Got the best view of the mess and it was barely moving... at most 5mph. Even better was its connection to IN-39 which at the time would have taken my tails home (not anymore, and I plan to leave the state altogether at some point). Overpowered route that remained hidden until 2011 if I've ever seen it. Sometimes it's good to be dull and not have an interstate connection.
Really enjoyed reading this. Traffic brings out the worst in me so hearing about someone getting around it (and learning potential escape routes if I'm in the area) is always fun. I'll take a pre-1k badge as well, I love how far the channel has come.
Great story! I definitely kinda miss when I'd be on a trip in an unfamiliar area and would hit a surprise traffic jam and bust out the old Ran McNally to find my way out of it.
For the I-5 reboot could you do exit 127 in Washington? That's the way to my hometown of Puyallup if you were coming from anywhere south of Tacoma. No one here in Denver can pronounce Puyallup as well 😂 Thank you!
Ah, the memories...while I've never been on IN 16, this brings back memories of living in Champaign, IL and visiting all the small towns in that area with their one stop sign with flashing lights and signs toward towns no one not from the area has ever heard of.
There's something about these state highways that run through rural areas. A couple of weeks ago I was in SW Michigan and enjoyed the drives I took on some of the state highways south of Kalamazoo and north of Indiana border.
This is one of the few east west state roads in NE Indiana that ive never been on, simply due to 16 not connecting to 65, since ive been up and down 65 from Indy to Chicago many times.
A good followup to this video for a video of a rural road, that would still make an entertaining video people would watch, would be Michigan 185. It's the only highway which bans cars. (Mackinac Island) Might make a good April Fools video, that still ends up being interesting.
Todd , I think the No Access sign for I-65 May date back to the several years where 65 dead-ended at IN-16 when it was first constructed around 1970. When they opened the next section of I-65 South (to US-231 Roundgrove) the overpass was built and it’s been that way since then. I grew up in Lafayette/West Lafayette and know the area pretty well - to say I was shocked seeing Indiana 16 as the feature would be an understatement!!
65 Southbound traffic was routed from 65 South to IN-16 East to US 231 south to Lafayette. Coming home from Chicago we could take 65 basically half way and get away from 41/52 stops and speed traps
I went to college in Rensselaer and when we didn’t plan ahead and ran out of beer on a Sunday, (you couldn’t buy alcohol on Sunday in Indiana at the time) we took 16 over to 41 and 52 to get to the liquor store in the town just across the state line in Illinois.
Kansas didn't use to sell beer on Sunday. When I was in college at KU, me or one of my friends had to drive to KC MO pretty much every week lol. The parking lot was always full and every car had a Kansas plate.
These days when you travel between Indiana and Illinois you’ll usually see a dispensary on the Illinois side and a fireworks store on the Indiana side.
Florida 471 should be up on the list of dull roads too. It's basically a straight line through forests and swamps with a couple of towns along the way.
When you said you were doing Indiana 16, my only thought was WHY??? My dad grew up in Denver, IN and I still have family that comprise the less than 500 people there. So I've driven SR 16 a lot, especially when I lived in Fort Wayne and it was the best way to get to Denver. That is one desolate road! And yes, you did pronounce Roann correctly!

Kentucky Highway 9 might also be high on that list. Especially South of the Cincinnati Suburbs, cause you only pass through one significant town and it’s very rural. Though you do get to travel through the Mountains which is cool.
Actually, i think this is a perfect video to make. Tou can start a list if the most boring highways. Not desolate, like some ruads in AZ, but boring. Think I-116 or I-72,
I feel like Iowa Route 160 is the most boring in Iowa. Not because its in flat fields of nothing, but because its only 3 miles long, only in one suburb, and ends at more important highways (415 and I-35)
@@courtemanche437 Same, 40 is one of my favorites so that should be a fun time all around. I wish he was doing the whole thing instead of just half but maybe he'll do the western part if the Chiefs play in Denver 🤣

Bro picked the most random road possible for a video
4:10 Damn, Carolina Beach Road is long XDD
It’s 941 miles. What’d you expect?
Should do M37 or M52 in Michigan
Eventually, US 31 will be upgraded to a freeway. I doubt that there will be an interchange between the two roads.
Even the state sign is dull
It's time to head to the farms and plains of Northern Indiana. Indiana is one of the farming states in the Midwest just east of the Mississippi.
I think everyone knows where Indiana is....
St does not stand for Street it stands for State road
Hi
Yo
It must be a 16 thing because Maryland and Delaware 16 are just as bad.
meh. i grew up right off of Ohio route 16 and it's light years more interesting than this
NY 16 starts in downtown Buffalo and goes south into the hills and valleys of the Appalachians.
@@Handle_Needs_3_Or_More_Charact See, that's not bad. MD/DE 16 is very rural road connecting the Chesapeake Bay and a rural beach.
After watching this video I feel only a real MONON would make this video. Okay terrible effort there, but it seemed that this had to be a video you dread making.
lol
i have been on this road and it is boring as hell
