I have a character who is basically an innocent bean, but very (naively) devoted to Lathander. She does know of the dawn cataclysm, but believes in forgiveness and that even the gods aren’t perfect. Lathander is aware of his mistakes in this campaign and throughout the campaign he communicates more with my character to a point where she helps communicate him to the outside world, putting him in a better spotlight and she eventually becomes his chosen (and that’s where we ended the campaign at level 17)
Sounds like a version of Apollo that over threw zeus. Also I can’t say this for sure but I think I’ve read that helm doesn’t actually hate lathandar just holds contempt because he must remain neutral.
I was inspired by the tale of Lathander trying to overthrow his pantheon to make him my BBEG in my campaign, but this time he's going to overthrow the entire cosmos and become the one true god throughout the multiverse. Your interpretation also may have had a hand in my inspiration.
I recommend looking a little bit into the lore, and dialogue of Alpha and Omega from a game called Loop Hero. It is very different, but could be a good source of inspiration for his general attitude.
I think your wrong to call lathander a narcissist. Lathander recognizes tha the Dawn Cataclysm was his fault and he sights it as his biggest failure. Lathander is the idea that if we try to do good and avoid the darkness, then each day we can hope to be a better person. There is always a new dawn my friend.
I don’t disagree at all xD I wanted to provide an alternate representation of him beyond his traditional appearance and thought that would be an interesting avenue to explore
My particular character on Neverwinter Nights is a Paladin-Cleric build that does follow the order of Lathander. He's well-aware of the Dawn Cataclysm that he had committed, but he doesn't allow it to hurt his views of the God. Keeping in mind that Lathander committed quite a terrible act, it wasn't done out of complete malice. Gods are often thought to be perfect, but even they have their moments when they will falter. And in Lathander's case, being that he's a god of self-betterment, my character himself resonates with that aspect of him. Becoming better than what you were before. The past is the past and nothing can be done to fix it, but you can at least spend your time trying to be better.
I find your interpretation of Lathander interesting. I like the idea that Lathander is simply overzealous but means well. Lathander truly believes his way is the right one. Lathander is a juggernaut of a deity because his portfolio is so large and he is extremely popular, probably the single most popular deity in the Forgotten Realms. Lathander is like the Sun, his passion BURNS. He is naive and idealistic. I believe that ultimately, he does more good than harm, but I certainly see the validity of your interpretation. I had never realized just how much similarity there was between Lathander and Apollo
I see Lathander as a truly neutral good God because there is no way Illmater would wish to be his allie if he wanted to kill people no matter what to get his vision. I see perhaps maybe he was leaning lawful at first and would kill people for his vision, aka the Dawn Calamity. However, in my eyes, I feel he got power hungry and became Amunator in that time and killed all those Gods; however, I feel like his allies made him see reason and 'revived and renewed' him to be the benevolent Lathander he is now.
I play Lathander as sorrowful for the Dawn Cataclysm personally, and that he really was manipulated into it by Shar in an attempt to kill the light and help usher in her darkness
This is certainly an interpretation of him, but you'd have to change his alignment to neutral I feel like (he's very selfish in this interpretation). I actually believe good D&D gods are good, and only tend to lose that path if their lawfulness or chaoticness overrules (example: helm's clerics can definitely be more devoted to order than justice). Chauntea is also a more powerful god than him so I don't really buy him being controlling of her - but still your version of Lathander is a really cool god. Having watched Dice Camera Action I don't know if my biases can ever overrule the magnificent portrayal of a Neutral Good paladin played by Anna Prosser Robinson. Lathander is about Doing The Right Thing (and she does have that arrogance that "Lathander's path is the best path", she never does anything bad to anyone who disagrees beyond telling them they're wrong) regardless of the long term consequences or the rules. When she sees Dendar the Night Serpent, an evil god!, rise from the ground she casts Compelled Duel on her. Whe she gets devoured by Acererak's Soul Monger, and sees that the next soul to be destroyed is a little boy, she throws her own soul in the way to be devoured first (breaking the soul monger, which isn't prepared to eat an un-weakened paladin soul) It's going to be real hard for me to overcome my personal biases at how strong of an impression of a paladin of lathander that left on me
Totally understood xD I’d never presume to say my depiction is THE Only depiction it’s just how I view the character, you do what is most fun to you xap
I am guessing there's a definite attempt by whoever conceived of this deity to make a connection with 'Lucifer, the Morning Star.' Thanks for sharing this informative video! Very nice artwork as well.
I always imagined Lathander acting kind of like a cross between Lockhart in the Potter movies and Captain Hammer from Dr. Horrible. "Yes, It's me, Lathander. Now stand aside so I can save the day"... "Ah. Ummm, well, at least the arm isn't broken anymore. That pesky Shar, always interfering."
I love your interpretation in my world I had put much less focus on Lathander and such instead of being a major god in my world they are minor god with a cult and due to so shuffling of domains Lathander is instead of the god of dawn they are the god of Noon which fits perfectly with your idea of Lathander as a god of forced perfection, a god of acmes, basely in my world Lathander is a god of radical self help, and positive thought, as such their cults have a problem with toxic positivity where they think that the best solution to all problems is to just roll up your sleeve and think happy thought which at least in my understanding isn't a great way to emotionally deal with problems.
I am currently using the church of lathander as an antagonist towards the players and the overall world. The church runs a major theocracy which is a powerful country controlling almost half of the continent. The church is zealously hateful towards all undead creatures and practitioners of necromancy and heretical beliefs and actively destroy them. They are at war with the neighboring nation over a theocratic dispute over the weaker southern nation using necromancy for free labor to tend farms and plant crops.
@@itslegendlore same here, I had a chaotic evil cleric that worshiped Beshabba, she would go around and act almost like a mafioso saying things like “it sure would be a shame if something bad were to happen to you, I mean it’s inevitable really, though…I could ask Beshabba to look the other way…. For a price 😉
Yo I found this on tiktok after discovering the Lathander tag. I find the parallels between your Lathander and my Clerics actions and plans for post lvl20 game play pretty funny in how well they match up. I'm not sure if this is how my DM is portraying our games Lathanader, but I accidentally kept referring to my character as a Morning Lord and not a Dawnbringer, which my celestial guide promptly cut short the moment I resumed contact after being trapped between planes in the void. But I let it sort of sit and fester for a bit as a bit of a "mad with power" type situation. My character has a history of taking deals and small favours for bits of power here and there, justifying it all in the name of Vanquishing evil 😈
That’s fine it’s always about how you want him to appear in your game that’s important :) For me personally it was just that his lore and the way that his attempt to shape the world that resulted in the deaths of other gods did seem very callous and uncaring

I also had no idea that Chauntea was more powerful so I may have to do a part 2 somewhere down the line xD
I like how it seems that a lot of the "good" gods in DND are not just wholely good. They infact often seem to have flaws just like mortals.
I am guessing there's a definite attempt by whoever conceived of this deity to make a connection with 'Lucifer, the Morning Star.' Thanks for sharing this informative video! Very nice artwork as well.
Thank you so much xD and you know I never thought of that connection until u just said it great find!

Lmao I can also see that xD
Glad this isn't just a voice over from the wiki! Good work
Fuck it. Take it a step further. Lathander as Homelander.
Homelathander.
love that xD

I love that that’s awesome :) I’m glad I wa s able to help!
This version of Lathander is giving me serious Apollo from Lore Olympus vibes. Maybe I could have him attempt to steal the sun god mantel from Pelor.
@@lewisbarnich5251 that was actually a very big inspiration for this version xP

@@snappa_tv sounds super dope!
Another great video! looking forward for the next one!
I like your sword although it's listed as a greatsword in dnd beyond, you have stats, and ability to one hand like a longsword.
Outstanding
Thank you!
It’s funny because I just made a Half-orc paladin who worships lathander so this is great for building my lore
Nice! :D
Fantastic.
Thank you!
Can you make a video on the Night Mother please?
I believe youre referring to Shar?
Basically Apollo, but let’s burn a stake.
What song is playing in the intro?
Any chance of a Beshaba Legendlore?
Absolutely she’s one of my favorites :)

You play warlocks a lot dont you?
Nope, Paladin and Support Class Main xP
I’m make warlock with him as a patron
do et, do the good work xP
Omg he's Homelander
YES but definitely more manipulative and less inclined to burst of rage xP
An evil dude evaluating Lathander, wonderful.
Evil dude? XD
i have done it: i have made a christian wizard
Lathander so gay!
