There was a $3060 discount included in that price.

I gave up on email or phone quotes. I went into a few dealers and all they will do is look at the window sticker, add on a 'spitball'd' charge for the tax/licensing/registration, and that's it. No dealer or manufacturer discounts included. They have an attitude they are doing you a favor by giving any type of quote. More accurate you have to go in and sit down with F&I to get a monthly payment price, but I tell them I want to get my own loan comparison first. I tried to buy a hellcat challenger 2023 over the phone via email from a dealership in Illinois. It took them seven days to send me the outdoor price. I asked for their best cost, a discounted rate if they really want to move the vehicle. After 7 days, they sent me the MSRP quote, completely ignored their online sale price. The car was on the lot 250 days. It really doesn’t appear the dealerships or sales people are hungry for our business. I don’t understand what’s going on. I simply ignored the quote. FYI the state of Florida allows "UP TO" $995 dealer fee and you would sooner hit an iceberg in Florida than find a dealer who charges less. ONCE I found a dealer that had $895 but I never checked to see if that was a misprint.
Car & Truck registrations are $14.59 - $32.50 depending on weight.
    Heavy Trucks (ex. 4x4 PU) are 5001-5999lbs =$60.75 6000 - 7999 =$87.75
Original New Title Fee = $77.25
    Original Used = $87.25
    Transfer/Duplicate = $75.25
The majority of dealers charge Doc Fee of $295
There are also numerous ticky tack "because we can fees" involved depending on each county.
I just checked a 2024 and 2025 Ram 1500 Bighorn/Lone Star near Orlando and the dealer specified "pre-delivery service fee of $1,198, Private Tag Agency Fee of $189, and Electronic Registration Filing Fee of $559.55" ....so much for discounts🙄

I am not too experienced negotiating for cars but I have noticed that car sales people have the main job of "landing" the customer with a test ride. They don't handle much of the numbers since that requires them to go through the finance people and the manager. There may be discounts that kick in if you finance. The discounts and finance charges can change a lot depending on the background of the customer (credit score, own house, etc.). Manufacture promo's, dealer discounts, interest rates can very daily. Tough for a sales rep to keep up with every car model/trim.

Also, that's pretty good that any of them gave you a quote. Some around here, they want you to go in before they'll talk numbers. By the way, don't just get numbers in a text or verbally. Get them to write up the actual worksheet because THAT is where they will sneak in add ons and junk fees. And that's also what you need to send to other dealers that you want to compete on price. In 2008 I had a Toyota dealership in Scottsdale refuse to give me an out the door price. The salesman was stuck on payments even though I told him many times I had my own financing. Then they bought in the sales manager and some backup guys to try the same thing. I showed them a written quote from another dealer that they could have matched….they didn’t even try. I walked out and they didn’t care.

TESLA Business Model. AMAZON Business Model. I go on computer right now, sitting next to my pool, pick what I want, it give me the price and I hit "BUT NOW". Yes, you need the money to do this. Maybe it will force people to make better deals when buying cars. Unlike my Neighbor who is a 1st Grade Teacher and leases a new Audi ever 3 years. My God, image investing that money over 30 years and just but a used Honda Accord every 10 years. Sorry, I am off the rails again.

People need to stop buying from these stores.
The doc fee is nonsense enough but a “dealer fee” is insulting. It’s one thing if they listed at wholesale and had a flat markup-that would be honest and transparent. But we all know that wouldn’t do. There always needs to be some grift involved.

But the huge kicker is that the damn thing has been on the lot for more than 200+ days and they keep calling me trying to see if i am interested in the car at least every week and i answer with the same thing can i get the otd price. You would think if your calling me every week you would at least give me the otd price on the damn car if you want it sold.......

What are they doing that justifies adding almost $1000 to the selling price plus all the other fee's.
Here in the UK the advestised price is inclusive of everything except any dealer options that you choose
    not the dealer.

Selling a product like a vehicle, there should be no reason why they shouldn't be able to tell you an out the door price within the first minute of the phone call. I can get on facebook marketplace and they have the price listed and they are normal people for the most part selling their own car.

I've used 1 of your templates to try and get out the door pricing from 2 local dealerships. Both called quickly but neither has responded after I told them what I wanted (OTD). I Called 1 back and asked for the salesman that called me and was told that he was with 2 customers and would get back to me. So far...., crickets!
And this really blows because we really need another vehicle.

Question for you... if there is a large inventory of unsold new trucks everywhere, and some 2023 trucks have been on the market for 1-2 years now, and one of these is now at a dealership for the past 2 weeks, so they likely got it from a dealer auction at a very low price... is it reasonable to try to get this vehicle at or near the trade-in value? If nobody is buying these (and this truck in particular), would dealers be motivated enough to sell at tradxe-in value just to offload it?

    • @tadzius5829

And what if that 2023 model truck, now 2 years old, has been sitting at that dealership for >500 days now? I'm seeing this, so curious if it's realistic to offer trade-in value or even less for trucks this?

I have a question about the caredge buying service. You charge $1,000 but only guarantee to reduce the price by a $1,000? So how does the consumer save? You guys make a grand from the consumer plus whatever kickback you make from the dealer?

      @CarEdge  Місяць тому

We do not make any money from the dealer, kickback or otherwise and the average savings on the deals that we do are over $3000, so on average even after paying for our service the customer is still $2000 ahead, plus they haven't had to deal with the dealerships directly. All the best, Ray
