I've never had an issue with my appion, I guess I don't over tighten it. But I could certainly see how that would be an issue. That's a handy thing to keep in mind. Thanks for the video
Why can’t Appion get this done at the factory? Let’s all adjust our fuel mapping curve when we buy our next new vehicle as this will save manufacturers the programming expense.
Great video. I'm trying to think of a scenario in which a tech would remove a valve core while under vacuum. Do you know of any? Typically if I'm evacuating, I've already removed the cores, and I break the vacuum with refrigerant to about 3-10 psig and then install the cores before fully charging. There's no struggle pushing the core tool in while turning, there's no air getting in, and i can use the pressure to bleed air out as I insert the core
Appions are decent, very important not to overtighten onto the service valve. I have appion, yellow jacket, hilmor, jb, and accutool. The accutools are definitely my favorite along with the tru blu hoses. Haven't tried the fieldpiece can anyone comment on how they work? Am interested in the one with the sightglass but seems a bit overpriced, but what isn't?
i have 2 appion tools i bought at the same time after seeing everyone talk about loving them. they are garbage for pulling cores. I have 2 robinair ones that work 99% of the time first try. and they were cheaper. I use the appions because i have them but i pull the cores with just the stem no valve body for installs not service and putting them back in isn't an issue. if i was a service guy i would sell them and buy something else with the 150 bucks. also just had one of the appion 3/8" to 1/4" hoses have the tiny snap ring on the back side of the 1/4" come off while pulling a vacuum and i thought i had a leak for a few minutes till i found it. this is a newer hose i've only used 20 times or less. might have to shut off appion all together.
I have 3 appion core tools and for the mini split core and their depressors (those are decent)and soI had to donate one on a job because it got the core stuck so bad. Sucks but I learned to pinch and nurse it just right every time I use em to not have this happen again…I will have to go back one day in the winter to recover the donated appion 😢
I have two Appion core removal tools. One grabbed the core perfect out of the box. The other needed to be adjusted to grab. I noticed one has the logo on the body while the other one has no logo. Can’t remember which one worked out of the box.
I use the Appions, and have had this issue also. Something that I have done is use the head from my JB on my Appion vcrt. Unless Appion changes the tips I probably will be going with another brand. Probably the FP ones. It’s a shame because other than the issue with grabbing the core they feel solid.
Weird I recently bought a pair of these and they both have the opposite problem. The gap was too tight so I really had to force them in but after 1-2 uses they fixed themselves
Actually it should not effect your vacuum. You are going to remove the core before you pull your vacuum. After you remove the core you will snug the tool back down to tighten the seal, pull your vacuum, Then weigh in your charge, then put the core back in while the system is under positive pressure.. Works every time for me. The YJ and FP tools work better than this thing anyway.
I think it’s all preference. For me I’ll never buy anything but Appion core tools. They have proven themselves time and time again, the re build kits you basically re build the whole unit to brand new and the solid construction of them. It’s just like leak detectors and brands of equipment. It all depends on what any given person is comfortable using. Some people prefer heated diode leak detector over infrared because they’re comfortable with it or vice versa. Just like people that say they hate mini splits, more often then not they just don’t know how to work on them or didn’t like the training they received. It’s all a game of who likes what and what each person has the best results with
For the price, the Appion MGAVCT Core Removal Tool should be calibrated and ready to use out of the box.
I've never had an issue with my appion, I guess I don't over tighten it. But I could certainly see how that would be an issue. That's a handy thing to keep in mind. Thanks for the video
Would magnetizing the tip work?

How would you use one of these on a car?
Thank you for the video! You just resolved years of frustration 😁
I had to do the same thing to my Appion Core removers. I would recommend using the Knipex non-maring pliers 😎👍🏽

No you wouldn't do it while in a vacuum. I typically have to replace them under pressure on a running system with a leaking shrader

I have a love hate relationship with Appion. I’m wanting to try out the new fieldpiece with the sight glass.
Great tips Adrian
feel like they need to make the tip magnetic to insure a proper hold if it becomes loose.
Core and core remover are stainless...

Are the new fieldpiece vcrt better?

This is why I do pump downs with the cores in

The old appion never missed. They changed it and the tip

I said that
I guess this would be a royal pain on a roof when it's over 100°. I need a tool that works on the first try.
We don't remove shrader cores while in a vacuum.
You remove them before your vacuum
@@ReliableHVACR Carrier weathermaker....
@@nativenathenk those are probably coremax fittings not schraders
Squeeze it with the core in the pickup slot it makes it almost perfect every time.
I over tighten everything by hand . I always have to pay a lot of attention when doing this .

Damn I used the appion kit for the first time the other day and noticed the stem wasnt going into the holder..that means I have to loosen it
Gasket is pretty thick so it'll get caught up if it's too tight
Isn’t the whole idea to do this under pressure? Pressure would spit that core out
One word: Metal Fatigue

Have 3 or 4 of the appion core tools. Don't really like them. Seem to be way too finicky. Premium price marginal performance.
I see you cant think outside of the box. Put the core in the tool then make the adjustment. You will only have to do it once.
