- This is the intro to Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast.
Ten years ago today (on September 9, 1999), the Sega Dreamcast was released in the U.S. Probably the game that everyone got on launch day was Sonic Adventure. The game is still considered to be one the Dreamcast's best games.

i think sonic unleashed is my fave in the series. That animation is amazing. Its too hard to decide, though, the entire sonic series has amazing intros

1:22 to 1:35 is the best part IMO.
The distorted snare shuffling, the horror movie-esque "BAD SHIT IS ABOUT TO GO DOWN" rising note in the background, the two orchestra hits every two measures, and the fact that all the visuals seem to say "The very WATER is your enemy" makes that particular thirteen seconds hold a place in my heart that nothing else will ever, EVER take.

This intro blew my mind when I was kid, I remember thinking for the first time this is truly a next gen experience. Even the sounds the Dreamcast made while playing the disc made the experience feel next gen.

Wow the music brings back memories of me and my friend Brian playing this in my room in 2000. How cool
I was 4 years old, in our old apartment. At night we connected the DC to my parents tiny bedroom tv, my dad wasn't much of a videogames person, but he was trying to beat the game with me. We were sitting in his bed as we tried to kill Chaos I. The first chaos took so long to beat. When we finally did I went to bed.
Fond memories
I didn't cry at the end, but it still was depressing. It was a very dark story-line from a certain point-of-view. Amazing Game!
When u were playing this back in the day. You knew this was something new different and incredible.

I liked this intro. Made me want to play the game even more because the dits made it look like Sonic's entire world was ending. Seriously, watch the devestated buildings just before the intro ends.
I loved this game (just a bit less then I liked the second one). Countless bad guys replacing Robotnik has gotten old, but I remember when I first saw that Chaos was gonna be the game's main antagonist, I was ecstatic. In fact, it's where the inspiration for my user name comes from =)

"Sonic had a rough transition into 3d" my ass! this game is the absolute definition of an amazing transition into 3d, and i do know about the saturn and sonic xtreme but still! the fact that people still talk about it so positively shows that it has stood the test of time and as someone like me who never touched or owned a gamecube or dreamcast (i was born after that era) i think the game is a wonderfully crafted experience, from the plot to the levels to the character design. Sonic Adventure is a game i will always come back to, Sorry for wasting your time by reading this but thanks for hearing me out!

back in 1999 dreamcast sonic adventure intro with sonic team was awsome its shame that sonic team part had changed in other versions i have uploaded the xbox 360 version on my youtube channel

this game brought back so much memories that i still remebered that it took me awhile to beat perfect chaos 1 and 2 and i still have the game but no more dreamcast T-T

Wow, I just realised that the Dreamcast is 10 years old today. I never owned one but I know people who do, and I have both Sonic Adventure games on the GameCube. I remember seeing the Dreamcast version of SA being played in a game store, I was so amazed to see a 3D Sonic game.

Ha, I totally agree with you here. If I had control of my own development team and we were given the assignment to make a new Sonic game with a decent budget... god, it would be glorious. I just keep imagining chase sequences and ways to make Sonic cool again, it depresses me that Sega's treating him like crap these days.

The message that this introductory cinematic sends is very simple and effective: "Sonic is back. He's now in full 3D, He's been redesigned for the next millennium, and he's in for what might be his biggest game yet where he fights his most dangerous adversary to date!"
Simple, to the point, and immediately gets curious players and Sonic fans of the time intrigued and immediately hooked.
It still does for new players, TBH.

This intro right here is exactly why I started playing Sonic. If it wasn't for this, I wouldn't have been convinced that it was cool, and would have never discovered the genesis games that got me addicted to sonic.

I remember the few seconds of this intro in Mega Collection's history of sonic video taunted me and my brother until we found SADX at a random Game Stop.

Dear Lord this brought a tear to my eye. I remember i played this game EVERYDAY and i mean EVERYDAY!!!!!!! and i was 7 wen i got it and i had it for 3 years....... And my cousin lost it, wen she did i wanted to ring her fuckin neck out and dammit y arent Sonic games THIS GOOD anymore? They need to fall back on the nostalgia and stop introducin new characters in EVERY new Sonic game. And if they were to EVER make a SA3 i would pre-order the SECOND Gamestop says its comin soon

your so right man. i always knew sonic changed in an non-good way for sure x_x i love sonic, but forever support SA mainly. its the first sonic game ive played. maybe even the first video game. and its definitely a classic that, unfortunately, cant be changed and as good in this gen. as simply said, 'sonic has changed'

I've always been curious why certain versions have the moving liquid title screen. I've had my version since 1998 and it didn't have this, but some of my friend's copies did. I'm guessing this was from earlier launch versions or something? Also interesting to note that Tails looks different flying in the original Dreamcast release than he does in the DX version. He looks in two totally separate directions for some reason. Vastly prefer this version myself.
