You have so many perfumes, I’m amazed you’re able to put a dent in them.
I admittedly love the extrait but I will not ever wear it to work again. It just garners too much attention, even with just one modest (half) spray. I had multiple men asking me what I was wearing, two of whom later purchased it for their wives. It's sexy and inviting and most definitely a modern classic. Worth the hype? Absolutely.
Haha, that's quite a reaction! It's funny, because I had a male colleague come in wearing it and that's what put me off wearing it at work. But there definitely is some magic in there. 🌹Xo Sam
Gosh is it just me then? This stuff does not smell sweet in anyway I smell like a man and my husband hates it gosh darn maybe it’s different skin types it smells better

Amazing as usual!. BR 540 in both versions took a while until they grew on me, it definitely wasn't love at first sniff and I enjoy both the EDP and the extrait but they're not my favorites in my collection. That being said I think the EDP was truly groundbreaking when it launched because it smelled different than what we had in the market back then. 💜💜

However, the BR540 is the only one I sadly do not get at all, when it comes to the hype around it.
I find it to be just a high quality „mess” on my skin. Too sharp, too sticky sweet with medicinal, heavy undertones, and gives me instant headache. Not my cup of tea I guess 🥺
This is the beauty of perfumes’ world: the perception can be so different for different people 😂 hence, so much fun with comparing our impessions I guess 😃🥰

Hi! So happy to hear your take on this. I have a travel spray of extrait and tried a sample of eau de parfum. On me I love the almond note of the extrait. I love the extrait full stop where as the br540 eau de parfum has a medicinal not so airy scent on me at which I’m crushed cause i shudder at taking the plunge on price of the extrait. :-/. Maybe I’ll revisit the eau de parfum. Nevertheless I love this scent.

I enjoy both versions , the extrait being my preference between the two.
It also wasn't a love for me at first until a few years later I connected it to a scent memory that took me back to my childhood and ever since I've loved it.

Great review. But after reformulation the projection is weak. Also I smells very weak and need to reapply every hour

My World of Fragrance I get along ok with BR540 but I prefer the extrait much more bc I can smell it. I’m very anosmic to the edp and I like to smell myself. Lol!
Interesting you use the word “sour” for the extrait. I find it sweet gourmand with a sexy spice kick but not sour ... but smell is subjective. Enjoyed hearing about the history of the perfume

Nice overview and comparison, I slightly prefer the extrait with that almond touch. Does seem a bit of a victim of its own success. My mum for example really likes Arianna Grande Cloud, just one alternative of many now available.

@@mischaraine1645 Both are pretty fragrant, to me. You can smell the candle even when it’s unlit. Maybe I’ve just been lucky! I’ve burned through two of them and they were great.

I remember spray on extrait version that i own few years back. Everytime i take a train to work, there must be at least one person gonna ask me what perfume that i wore? They said that they can smell me from far away even one floor away via an escalator. It’s so strong. I’m gonna buy this again lol.
Let me start by saying great review!!! The BR540 dna is undoubtedly my favorite of all. That being said, I’ve seen/read countless reviews regarding BR540 and its dupes. To this day, I still LOVE to watch them...especially coming from an experienced nose of fragrances. Even with all of the hype, I just can’t get enough of it. Thank you for re-enforcing the magic of Baccarat Rouge. Holla.

I have had samples of each for over a year. I have decided that there’s something about the EDP that just gets to me more in love than the Extrait even tho I love the Extrait too. Totally different perfume, but with Poison Girl I enjoy the EDT more than the EDP, and EDP of Coco Mademoiselle more than Coco Mademoiselle Intense.

I have been leery of trying the extrait of Baccarat Rouge. I have only tried one extrait of a perfume (it was Not a Perfume by Juliet Has a Gun. I do love the regular version of that) and to me, it just reeked! It reminded me of a bathroom cleaning spray I quit using because of the smell. It stayed in my hair for days even after washing. So, tell me, should I give the Baccarat extrait a try??

There is simply NO PERFUME OUT THERE THAT CAN COME CLOSE TO BACARAT ROUGE (the edp)! It is that ONE perfume that has the same effect as that elixir perfume created by perfumist in that 2006 movie “Perfume: story of a murderer”. It has crowds swooned, like a spell, that you cannot put your finger on and cannot explain. If expensive royal rich lush luxury class could be distilled into a fragrance it is exactly BACARAT ROUGE (the eau de parfum clear bottle!). Fresh, candy-flosslike, warm, mesmerising - it’s like magic in a bottle. If you want to smell expensively classy and luxurious, buy this one. No questions asked. Save till you can afford it. And if it runs out, after a long time, save for it again!

sooooo true....itsa spell caster...I just splurged for 3 travel sizes,cuz I've been freaking DREAMING about it for a hot year or so...dupes don't even come close to it...when I read A.Grande's sickly sweet concoction is compared to it,I feel a bit like my heart sunk....You only live once,right,damn,I wanted it and got it❤❤❤❤extrait is better,imho..

I have the extrait and like to wear it because it’s great for long days at work. I personally have never had anyone ask me what it was or complain/compliment me but that’s probably also because people don’t really do that around here anyways for HR reasons. That said, it takes a few tries to like this perfume profile because it’s is definitely unusual. I can’t map any of the notes to something I’ve smelled before. Maybe a bit of saffron early on and ambergris-ish notes after dry down, but I get absolutely no jasmine or rose. I do get some notes occasionally that remind me of the various vape flavors I have to tolerate as I enter/exit buildings in the city and these are the times I have to wonder if I smell like a smoker (which is not a great).
I wear the edp in the warmer months and the extrait in the cooler months, edp being more effervescent to me and the extrait being more sweet

I love baccarat rouge! But it wasn't a love for me at first either. I actually gave my bottle away to my son. About a year later, he walked by me wearing it and I instantly regretted giving it to him and went to buy a replacement bottle. It's crazy how beautiful the sillage is! I have gotten so many compliments from the edp and I have the extrait on the way for winter.

Based on the price, I just couldn't justify paying that much. Problem is- my nose is a bit of a snob. However, I was on an intense search to find something 99%-100% comparable.
Enter Julianna's Perfumes. Absolute dead ringer for BR540 Extrait. Unreal.

I think I preferred the extrait better. I sold my bottle though because like you, I could smell it (and the clones) everywhere here in Austin and I kind of just got sick of it really fast 😂😂. It kind of sucks though because I'm having a hard time disassociating a lot of scents from this scent profile and I'm ending up just "noping" certain scents I may be more keen to. This phase might take a few years 😥

layer your fragrance to create a more personal scent , br40 is a good layering fragance .. layer it with one of your fav other perfumes.

I really wanted to love this one, but my boyfriend and parents said it was nothing special. Especially for that price tag.
This perfume still baffles me. I hear everyone talk about the sweetness, but on my skin, just smells like pine. Both versions. I really wanted to love this one, but on me, not so great.

I hear this a lot from some people, have u tried both concentrations and do u hold back on sprays? I’ve never had to look for this frag when wearing it, I’m always reminded of it... just awesome in performance.

Hi Sam, it was not love at first for me either. I had to try it several times. It was also a reaction from a co-worker and a store clerk who followed me that made we reconsider. Now it’s a love. I purchased for my nephew at Christmas. Now thinking of getting him the Extrait. I own both. 🔥

I bought a 3ml sample after hearing so much about it. I don’t know if anyone if the sample was genuine but was so disappointed. It doesn’t smell sweet to me at all, I just get vague hospital smell and then after 20 minutes I can’t smell anything.

This is the only Parfume ( I have extrait ) that give me compliments EVERY SINGLE TiMe I wear it... not so popular In my country because of the price..
I received a sample of the extrait. Can't do it. I smell jasmine different from most & it isn't pleasant. Therefore, extrait is a no for me. 🙄

Wow I didn’t get any of those notes I smell old musky grandpa I absolutely hate it and I have two bottles
This is pretty much a love or hate type of scent and many who hate it are just anosmic to the dna and, thus, get frustrated with the hype and the high price. For a niche fragrance to have less than 4 of 5 stars on fragrantica is usually not a good sign because most of the time niche fragrances are mostly reviewed by those who are ready to spend serious money on it. But BR540 is so well-known that everybody and their mom leaves a vote on the fragrantica page at this point.
BR540 EdP is a clear no for me. It opens with medicinal harshness and a rather pungent antiseptic note like iodyne. Then and for the most part it smells like a whole lot of nothing at all. I am completely anosmic to it. Only occasionally I get whiffs of some rather nuanced pleasant muskiness. Even if my surroundings enjoyed the sillage I wouldn't be able to tell because most of the time people won't hit you up on your fragrance. And at the same time I want to be confident in my scent which would require me to actually smell it. I cannot smell BR540 most of the time and whenever I can it is the pungent annoying antiseptic vibe I associate it with which just is too close to cold sweat or cat pee for me.
While I respect your opinion to the nth degree, this one just isn't all it's made put to be. Kurkdjian has about a half dozen more interesting offerings. And for the $, no way. Even if you are raking it in. :)

BR 540 is overrated now. It’s smells sweet, sickly and somehow juvenile and childish. It’s not the fragrance a sophisticated woman would wear, IMO. It’s something a teenage girl would consider as classy. The fact that Arianna Grande has a fragrance that smells almost identical and aimed at teenage tastes and pockets says it all. There are much, much better offerings from MFK.

I use to be, but I put the sample away for a few months & now it smells like heaven to me. I keep rolling my eyes about how good it smells now lol. However, it smell good from afar. I fan my wrist & the whiffs are amazing.

This perfume is so overpriced and not worth the hype. It’s a weak sweet boring perfume. For some idiotic reason it became hyped. Only it’s not deserved. I returned my bottle because I just can’t stand it, I can barely smell it. It’s so overly synthetic that it’s disgusting. To charge so much for an overly synthetic perfume . MFK is laughing all the way to the bank at all the ignoramus ppl who are dumb enough to spend a fortune on a crap “perfume”. If u must have this crap, buy the Ariana grande cheap dupe. Same crap at a much cheaper price and trust me nobody will ever know.
🤣 I think people just like the fact that they are wearing a bunch of money. It smells ok and is long lasting on me, but it's not worth the price. Should be at least $100 less.
Baccarat Rouge EdP is such a magical fragrance, never experienced an other fragrance that soft, never to much, but at the same time that powerful, that long lasting, intoxicating, seductive and luxurious, elegant at the same time, and I work at a niche fragrance store, so I smelled many fragrances...😍🤌🤪
