I dropped my pull list recently. Inflation is killing the budget, food prices are high. I have to pick and choose now what I focus on. Action figures, video games or comics.
Also if you wanna catch a movie now and again or the latest show
I thought I was the only one. I recently cut my weekly comic budget more than half. Love hanging with friends and all on CBD, but pricing is getting to high and books are getting unreadable.
It’s definitely a little on the pricey side it’s made me prioritize some things I want to read over others. Like for the Bloodhunt line I decided to drop all of the spinoffs and just keep the regular book. There was too much to keep up with and was getting me behind
My pull went from having 10-15 books maybe more for 150$ a week about and I realized that was insane so it’s now 4-8 of my favorites for $30-60 and I started getting into Vinyl record collecting too😂
I buy some stuff from my LCS, but now I get a lot online at DCBS. Just such a huge discount from the cover price.
30-50% discount and I believe $7 shipping. Can't beat that.
I just switched to DCBS as well, it’s such a good value I doubled my pull list lol I’m getting 26 titles from DCBS
.Picking and choosing for sure.
I no longer have a LCS, so don't have a pull list. I buy comics online, and normally only when they are on sale. Marvel was always my favorite growing up, but I've found that I don't like the majority of books Marvel publishes these days. I started reading DC later in life, but they are similar to Marvel now, and I only read what Adams writes for them, or the odd Venditti book now and then. I read mostly Indy books now (never would have thought that when I started in this hobby as a kid!!), and do appreciate that most of them are four bucks or less, and the stories appeal much more to me than the big two right now. Unless there is a huge overhaul and turnover at the big two, I don't see this habit changing in my lifetime. Sad for me, but at least I have my volume one books that I still love to re-read in my collection, so I go back and read my favorite arcs from time to time.
I cut way back.
I only collect RAW Comics, because slabs are a scam, just my opinion.
Also…I only collect Batman and ASM. Two books, That’s it. Prices are too high and the recent stories are really not good. The stories are really lackluster making it hard to justify the price. If I put money into comics, then I pick up, bronze and silver age raw comics, because the stories are better.
I too had to make a major cut on my pull list. I had to really restrict myself to a budget. I fell that videos like your " Worthy Ones" is such a BIG help with the cutting own of my pull list. I'm a reader of my books and what really attracts me to a new book is the read and your videos are a big help so I know if I need to pass or pick em up. So for that Thank You!
Thank you so much 🙏 glad I can help you.
I’m a new collector and have found myself spending $100 per month. I make a spread sheet of FOC’s over a month in advance when titles are announced. Once I hit my monthly spend on new titles, I bring out the axe if I want to squeeze anything else in.
Like these comic conversations keep it coming spider skaya 🤙
I recently dropped all but 4 books on my pull list. Here in Australia your $3.99USD books cost $11.99AUD at my LCS and as you can imagine it adds up pretty quickly haha. Couple that with the quality of most new release titles and it’s a no brainer to drop the pull and focus on older collected editions.
Great video!! 👍🏼
Thank you
The only single issues I'm picking up right now are: ASM, Ultimate Spiderman, Transformers, Gunslinger Spawn.
I have absolutely no self control! I order online mostly because i live in Hawaii and there aren't many shops here. Shipping costs make everything worse on my wallet.
Every time there are price increases, I get sticker shock. I end up not buying any books with price increases for a while - maybe a year or 2. Wait for the trades or totally skip books.
Having said that, my weekly buys have increased because of new titles, trades, and buying more dollar bin books to have a sense of getting value for my money.
I'unno, i quit cigarettes for this
It's sweet
Getting in check
I understand budgeting now
I pick up my comics about once a month. It runs $300 or more. I have a lot of pulls and just added three more titles. aint no grave, hellverine and the new furture title wolverine that greg coppola is doing. iI have maybe 30 title pulls or more.
Try to cut back. But this year is a good for comic ... I do buy D.C. and mavel not to much of other books
.
I'm willing to pay the $5 price per issue and would go up to double if it has an outstanding cover. But with the increasing prices, I've cut the number I buy from 30-40 a month to about half.
I spend around $220 a month on my comics. I order from DCBS because the nearest brick and mortar comic shop is an hour and 45 minutes away. But DCBS gives a great discount. But I make decent money so I'm not too worried about comics going up a dollar or whatever. I read all the titles I wanna read.
My monthly comic budget is usually $150 but that's also because I read manga and European comics (mostly Band Dessinee). I mostly pull limited (indy) series since I live in NYC and my apt is small so with 5-6 issues the story is complete!
Hi Mike, I order mine in advance from a online site but pick them up in person as I live near. Still buy 50 books a month, 13 dc, 25 marvel and 15 image/dh. As prices go up I have to stay in budget. Back in 2004 I bought 120 a month.
Yoooo I jus get ASM / gun slinger I dropped a few bit needed
Most definetly, I only have 3 series for my box but I also use marvel unlimited for all Star Wars and marvel series!
Some book I do wait for trade like long Halloween last Halloween when it come out
I have been using DCBS for 15 years and their discount is so high I have a lot of spending flexibility. Having said that though I am buying about half as many books as I was even 5 years ago. There just isn’t that much out there. Marvel and DC represents the smallest demographic of books I buy. Image is by far the biggest. When I look back at my order history it used to be the opposite.
Agreed it can get very out of control, personally I spend roughly £50 ($60 USD) a week, but that's only because I've cut back on other things I collect, so shifted budget over to comics. luckily the American comic imports here in the UK are very good prices. Haven't cut budget yet, but thinking on dropping a few books more due to storage space :D
I am finding Marvel and DC books quality is below acceptable standards both in paper quality and story at the moment,Definitely buying less Marvel and DC books and more Indies, but total Comics I definitely am buying less.
I don't get nearly as many as most people. Between 10 and 15 different series a month. But I am thinking of cutting that down to 8 to 10 series a month. Hard to keep up for me even with that small a number.
I buy all my comics digitally , once in awhile I’ll buy a physical tpb & variant covers of TMNT.
We’ve already reached my threshold with cover a of the big 2 having gone to $5 for the books I buy. I stopped getting all covers on many books, though the ultimate and energon books I get are currently exceptions.
As books end, I’m not as quick to replace them at this point.
My pull list is currently between $70 - $90 a month. I try not to go over $100. Most of the titles I’m still collecting are just for my favorite characters (Green Arrow, Flash, Daredevil, FF, etc) with some great independents mixed in.
Yea - so far in 2024 I am averaging about 7 new comics a week - don’t have data for 2023 (as just starting using app to create and monitor pull lists) but certainly making intentional effort to buy fewer variants, special issues and starting new series
I’m a Chris Claremont X-men fan so I grab all of that stuff that I can get my hands on. The only new books I really buy are the Chris Claremont Wolverine books. I try other books here and there to keep an open mind. I grab frank miller daredevil comics when I can get my hands on them.
I’m actually pulling more titles than I ever have before! I’m pulling 26 titles. My LCS didn’t offer a discount for having a pull list so I switched to DCBS and just pre-order 2 months ahead of time for 40%+ off.
I don’t have a price threshold for comics, comic book collecting isn’t built for broke people, as sad as that is to say.
I cut out indies and added more Marvel. Marvel has long-running series to collect, indies can’t get past 20 issues. It’s not personal, I just need room in my collection for longer runs
Thanks for showing my post! I actually just went digital and got Marvel Unlimited and DC Infinite. I am saving soooo much money! I’ll still collect the books I mentioned on my post because I love DC and want to support my LCS. But other than that, I’m doing digital, trades and omnibus.
My pleasure
I love my shop but I don't have a pull list I'm thinking of trying another shop so I can get a pull list and save money
Next week I'll be having my lcs close my pull as well. I can't afford it anymore. Too expensive.
Spending less? When i see new #1s..maybe. Do I still read them through other ways? Yes.
Havent been buying as much and trying to sell anything is even harder, people aren't buying
Yes. But not due to prices. I mean yeah, I’ll think twice before buying an expensive new book, but I primarily buy less now because I’m running out of space in my apartment to keep everything looking organized. The fiancé is not liking it… And I agree. Once I buy a house and get a man-cave I will start buying more and displaying!
i only spend about 30 buck month and try not to go over 40
With the recent Spider-Man or X-Men books at $10, there goes your budget…. And Ultimate books are like $5 or $6. It’s crazy a few books can cost $40 or $50.
@@brianng8350 i have about 10 book on my pull list
I've got carried away buying at WhatNot 😂 this vid already made me realize that I need a monthly budget. Lucky for me, I'm not into Marvel and could care less about 'Absolute Power' event.
I only sub to Shazam and bought lately (still) Titans and WW.
Thing is, I love my LCS, but the shipping time have gotten so bad. Wondie 8 (and Titans issue) were ready for store pickup at May 17, but that's about a month after they came out 😅 so instead of going there, I decided to buy 5,8,9 ftom eBay ...which I've got last Thursday. The last Shazam I got from my LCS was 10.
See the issue? 😂
When I got back into comics ten years ago, I started buying trades instead of single issues. As a Marvel fan, it has been disappointing the direction Marvel has been going in, and there is a lack of quality writers and artists. I have decided to sell many of the trades I have, and just buy Marvel Epic Collections and Omnis of stories from the 1960s-1994. For me, that is when Marvel was at it's best. I plan on collecting everything Marvel did in the past, so they will still get my money. I just wont be buying modern comics.
I recently switched from using my LCS to shopping at the Big Online Shops. They just have more selection than my LCS and I was having to shop there anyway so I just shop with them now. The larger selection of comics and variants is nice and they are actually cheaper and come with free bags and boards and offer free shipping if I order enough, which I usually do. Lately I’ve been considering dropping my DC and Marvel titles and sticking with my Indies. They never let me down. With the money I’ve been saving I’ve been buying Kickstarter comics.
10 is most for a comic I would buy and even that has to be fat!! I am not cutting back but plan on offloading old long boxes.
I only get Spawn Universe titles, Ghost Machine titles, and a bunch of Manga. I used to buy a lot more. It’s just too much expensive to get the volume I used to get. I also use DCBS.
No pull list for me I go to the shop and get em off the shelf. I try to stick to a 4 book per week limit. Sometimes I only get 1-3 sometimes I get 5-6. Last week I only got 2 so this week I might get more but trying not to buy unless it’s something I’m really interested in.
Lol, my list has only grown thanks to Energon, Conan, and Ghost Machine. I've been going through my pull list and seeing which series I want to continue to collect each month and which ones I can wait for trade or drop all together. My pull list used to be predominantly Marvel but now I have much more interest in the indies
I pay for yearly subscriptions on DC infinite and Marvel Unlimited. I do love the LCS but I just couldn’t afford it sadly.
Only a 2-3 books a week from 5-6 usually inflation of everything has affected the pull tbh
At the moment I had to drop a few due to prices and lack of story. Collecting asm, blood hunt, avengers, transformers, and hulk. Dropped void, x-men, spectacular spider-men, spider-boy and few others. When the series ends for hulk avengers and bloodhunt ill be down to a very few. Too much and I'm running out of space lol.
More likely to try a 3.99 comic release than a 4.99 or 5.99 release. Plus gave up on previous titles like Star Wars after they raised prices.
Due to the economy, I have moved mostly to trades now . And I am also subscribed to Marvel Unlimited, DC Infinite Ultra, & Comixology Unlimited.
I stay true to spawn comics
I quit comics about a year ago. It’s amazing how much money I save a week.
My LCS has gone through so many employees/ managers and I don’t want out then but if you live in central Florida let’s say they are the colossus with how many locations they have. They stop pulling my list because I come once a month and the new people act like I’m bothering them when I come in . I get my spidey books from a store out of state now and they are super nice . They appreciate my spidey room unlike the local store and you figure they would want to help me when I ask for something. But yes I have down sized and JRJR has to get off spidey and maybe when it hits 1000 issues I may stop there as well. I have everything I need
I decided to cut almost all Marvel books, events and decided not to begin with new indie minis. Marvel is just no longer for me, I still get old issues for my collection, but new books are just the same story over and over. I loved Avengers Twilight, though.
I will forever collect Batman and Detective Comics, and I'll keep buying Worlds Finest while Dan Mora does the art. I basically cut my spending in half, and I will probably keep going. Nowadays I buy everything online. I used to love to go every week to my LCS, but guys at the shop don't even chat anymore, and customer service has been getting worst now that they have a very young staff that honestly don't even read comics and are all into Manga and action figures.
Yes, I'm regularly dropping books from my pull list, I don't buy any slabs or variant covers and I usually steer clear of big crossovers...I guess I spend around $175 a month.
I think about 4 months ago I told you I think the prices are outrageous and took a break. I’m waiting for new arcs that may interest me. Maybe I should be a tennis instructor? Doubt it. What I do think is a budget should always be set. That’s difficult when good books come out. How can you be one that does not read DC books? Batman is probably the best. But I do respect your videos and am waiting for new arcs and the indie books.
I dropped my pull list in November of 2023. But just got back in reading Space Ghost from Dynamite. That’s ONE pull a month where I’ve collected as many as 30 over the years.
Im only in the new ultimate series/S-M, x-men, black panther, ect. The transformer serie, dawn runner and rook exodus.
Those are some great series to read. Glad you are enjoying them.
Not only as the comic book have become more expensive. Most of the comic coming out are also very bad. So, i’ve stop the pull list completely as well. I only buy what’s really worth it.
I DROPPED LONG AGO, VERY EXPENSIVE, WITH TOO MANY BOOKS THAT SERVE ME 0 PURPOSE, WITH TOO MUCH HYPE, THATS LEEDS TO NO WHERE. I'M NOW FOCUSED ON SPECIFIC CHARACTERS AND I'M COOL WITH THAT. SINCE THEN I SAVED SO MUCH MONEY, AND STARTED INVESTING MY MONEY INTO ASSETS AS IN GOLD/SILVER AND CRYPTOS, NOW THIS MAKES SENSE BUYING DIRT CHEAP, GAIN PROFITS THEN BUY THE BOOKS.
I don't care about the price I just pay it within reason I would not buy 1960 or 1970 original they are expensive anything else is fine the shop I go to doesn't stock them anyway but you can get copy's on new paper which will not make a dent in your wallet 😊
Yeah I’m starting to lean Ray’s way. I pull #1’s and then maybe #2’s that I find interesting and if I like it I wait for the trade. I will always be a cover wh*re so I still pull banger covers and covers of artists I love, but as far as reading the stories, I’m training myself to wait for the trades.
🤣 @ mike --> Varient fiend! 🤣 🤣 go finz
I've been tightening my pulls what seems like every week lately. It's not just the price, though. A lot of the books are just pumped out with no heart, bad art, and pointless stories. I love comics but I'm doing my best to just pick up what I'm actually enjoying. I can't keep doing cover-only buys or picking up books simply because a character I like is in it. Give me good stories and art!
I buy fewer titles as the prices increase.
I dropped my pull list due to bad content. Indies mostly and MINIMAL of the big 2.
This is exactly my situation now. You aren't alone.
My budget is super tight lately, the new comics I’m getting are all the ultimate marvel comics.
Took my pull list from 25 to 5 books last month. These stories just aren’t worth $5-$10 a book. Been buying big trade paperbacks on Amazon for half off so I’m getting about 15 issues worth of great stories for $20. Way better
Pull list has fewer books
I read and collect
Mainly Image books
And a few Marvel
I dropped my budget from $100 to $50 a week. I don't buy variants, and I don't buy DC. I'm Marvel and independent. I also buy at least 1 key a week.
I do not buy a lot of new comics and the buying is restricted to Marvel. Cannot buy everything, so I focus on Marvel. My favorite characters are Black Widow, Iron Man , and the Avengers, but I have been loving the Ultimate Universe, so reading and ENJOYING those. I liked Captain Marvel until Alyssa Wong took over, stopped reading when she started writing. I also pick up most of J Scott Campbell covers. I do spend money on older books, as I previously mentioned I am trying to collect the first 100 Avengers. I currently have 45, usually buy a couple a month, but they can be expensive. I recently picked up a CGC 8.0 Avengers 25 with Doom on the cover, it was $390.00 , so I do spend, just don't spend much on new books. I will not spend $10.00 on a comic. $6.99 is acceptable if it is a variant or is oversized.
Dropped my pull list about twenty years ago. Comics had already gone to sh!t and didn't feel the need to keep spending money on comics not worth reading. Didn't think they could get worse but...they got WORSE! Almost any comic from Marvel or DC is totally unreadable. I'll try picking one up now and then but it's always trash. I am spending more on Omnibus's though. Classic stuff only that I know I like already and reread. So thst I dont have to dig the originals out of the shelf.
I think the nail in the coffin moment for me was Grant Morrisons X-MEN. Always been a big X-MEN fan but when it became uncomfortable and laborous to get through an issue, I knew comics where dead for me. Now we've got social agendas and politics slimeing it's way into our artform lika a cancerous growth and they want you to pay how much for a single issue of braindead brainwashing drivel? Here comes some more nails.
It's just frustrating that LCS suffer because the big companies are charging more. The cost is going up and cutting the margins and basically driving customers away because of the higher price points. Also the smaller LCS don't get treated the same as the bigger stores do. They'll get their orders with great discounts and usually on credit. Small shops don't get the same treatment. Almost feels like the big companies are just money grabbing and not really helping the small shops succeed.
Five dollar prices really make me question if I need to continue with a title. If it stays at 3.99 I would prob stay with it.
I can totally understand that.
I still prefer going to my shop I support them plus I love reading my comics
I haven't backed off at all unfortunately. It's my main collection. I mostly buy comics just for the cover art which sucks cause the art has become so good in the last few years its hard to stop. I do read dark indie mini series if I like the art. It hurts really bad financially because I have to buy everything on ebay due to living so far away from a comic store. That really sucks.
What do y'all think is a good monthly budget? including WhatNot buys 😅👀
I've always been more of a Trade buyer myself
Totally get it you can read a big chuck of the story that way.
I literally spend this week 245 😭
I dropped DC all together, I bought too many of their bad events like death metal and infinite frontier, and they were all like $8+ CAD each
My wallet is very angry at me. I try to spend no more than 200 dollars a month. But, over the summer I am looking to get 50-60 books a month as opposed to where I was last year which was about 30-40 a month. But, I will not deny the fact that there are so many good books coming this summer (mostly indy books) However, my store is amazing I get discounts on all new comics as I have a vibrant pull list. They only ask for one subcription in order to have one with the store. Also, there have been so many sales at my store. This weekend they were having a 1 dollar comic blow out sale. I ended up getting 12 books and there were all Rick Rememder Captain America and Mark Millar's Jupiter's Circle.
I'm tired of crappy writing. So now I buy 0 marvel 2 DC 3 independent. Send more of that money on 60/70's books.
😱😱😱😱😨😨
I enjoy reading comics if they made me as miserable as some of the people on-line seem I’d quit
Only thing left on my pull list is ASM (need 15 issues to complete 1962 to current) and Uncanny X-Men (need 8 issues to complete 1963 to current).
Used to average 25 to 30 books on my pull list until two years ago. Price wasn't the factor for me. The majority of writing and art in modern books are trash. Everything now is deconstructing the heros and making the villans misunderstood.
I know I'm not alone in my feeling as I still go to the stores every Wednesday night and each store I stop at is like a ghost town. There used to be tons of people. Now it's just people playing Pokémon or MTG.
I try to keep it at hundred, but I have no threshold.. if it's 200.. it's 200..
🇲🇪😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉❤😂
You’re the worst English teacher in America but I like hearing about comics. I am subscribed to around 100 titles I get a 35 % discount.
Cutting my Marvel books, too woke. DC is still on my list not as woke. More independent books going forward.
i spend no less than about 80 bucks a week on comics.....
My lcs gives 25% off with 10 plus titles on the pull list , no sales tax on reading material and even then I spend 40 to 60 a week. Damn variants! The plan is to cut back just like everyone else
