When Kevin hart becomes a mechanic...lol
Wym thats kevin harts dad 🤣
I thought it was Mike Tyson.
You people are HILARIOUS, LOL!!! THANKS!!
Lmfao
😂😂😂
People do not realize how hard it can be to get in close for a good video shot as well as good audio. It was worth you climbing and repositioning the camera. Video and sound came out perfect! Looking forward to the install!
So true Uncle Mark, SO TRUE!
This guy. I dont even care about cars. He is just such a cool dude so i watch.
LOLOLOL, THANKS!
I was scrolling through videos to find out symptoms of a bad starter and I click this one and stopped because this guy knows what he’s talking about
It’s 14 seconds in…I immediately love the enthusiasm
That’s what I thought
I’ve been thinking my freewheel could have damaged teeth, but now I’m so relieved! It’s been making this EXACY sound. Thank you for making this video!!
No problem at all Gabe, and THANKS!
Dude soundin like he about to get nasty with that starter lmao. Love the enthusiasm man keep it up!
Thank you! My daughters bf refused to put the new starter in for me because he didn’t think that was the problem. I knew what I was hearing was that fly wheel
LOL, don't you hate when people think they know better than you, LOL!
IS IT HE OR SHE? YOU CONFUSE US. you said my daughters, then he, so what is it: SHE OR HE?
@@irisbaez1972 Read over his comment, "BF" stands for BOYFRIEND.
Devon Dudley get the tables 😭💀😂
DEEEVOOOO! *smack* GET THE TABLES!!!
My starter has been making that sound on and off for years, still works fine
Sometiems the starter gets stiff and cold on the first start, kind of a normal thing.
@@Illness.og. my car starts on 2nd try everytime
Thank you for posting this! My truck (86 GMC) wasn’t turning over, wasn’t even sounding like it was attempting to turn over, and only made that grinding hum when I turned the key. All the other videos out there on starters just talked about a ‘click’ and not that grind-hum. Now I know what the problem is and can start going about fixing it.
GREAT, let us know how everything turns out once you replace it!
It was a pain to take out because of the angle but once I did, sure enough, it was immediately evident that it was the problem (internals were starting to seize - later determined to be the result of a bearing wearing down). Took it to a local shop and they were able to fix it up like new in about two hours. Put it back in and the engine started up without a problem or a hiccup.
@@E2theBizzle That is GREAT! Sometimes it's so much easier and cheaper to just take it to a rebuilder and have them fix the problem. THANKS FOR THE UPDATE!
Agrees. This help me because I now know it isn’t my starter. Thanks!
You the only mechanic who actually gets me pumped up to work on vehicles!
LOL
Dude, you are awesome. To the point and both in cab and at the starter sounds. Saved me from a bunch of diagnostics. Thank you
Great to hear!
THANK YOU! 100% what my car is doing, after replacing 4 year old car battery 5 days ago. I've subscribed to your channel. I might know a thing or two about cellular network engineering, but when it comes to cars I'm near clueless. Thank God for the internet and channels like this!
That's great, glad we could help. It's all about helping each other.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Thank you and God bless you!
Thank you I watched your video before my starter went out troubleshooting for other problems. As soon as I heard it I KNEW it was the starter bc of your video. Any other time my starter went out it would do the click click then start. This time it was a big grind and I thought it was my Flywheel but it got quieter and quieter and it sounds exactly like this now with that spin wind down and the sound is coming from exactly where my starter is. THANK YOU AGAIN!
Sir, I LOVE your energy. I'm in the pits w my car and was feeling pretty hopeless and watching this really lifted my spirits AND helped me figure out what to look for. Thank youuuu! 💗🤗
Wonderful!
i love this video!! saved me some stress about my car not starting, now I know to listen to the signs! It's been making these sounds and getting worse for the past couple of weeks
Appreciate that Wil!
Wow thank you for putting us up close to the starter like that that was the craziest most helpful UA-cam video I’ve ever seen in my life thank you thank you thank you
Got it.... thanks!
Another sound I heard in my Honda CRV starter, that I thought was either a bad battery or alternator not charging the battery, was a “slow turn over”.... like as if I had a low charged battery... but I found out the starter was getting old and is ready to go out soon....
Thanks!
Thanks for letting me know my jeep needs even more work done to it😂😂
I swear he sounds like Kevin Hart... I giggle the entire time.. i should of payed attention instead of laughing... alright alright alright imma replay it lol 😭
Lol, glad you enjoyed it.
now that you mentioned it, he does sound like Kevin... haha
I appreciate the upbeat personality! good job!
THANKS Billy!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos yes sir.
Man! This is exactly what I was l looking for!! I have this sound in my Land Cruiser and I was hoping to find a video of someone with the same problem, and you did!! Thank you!!
Thanks for the video!
The repositioning of the camera gave me the idea to use mine to help me find the starter. I was stuck at night, and it was hiding behind the engine. Flashlight on video mode found it, gave it a few good taps and was able to start the car to get home.
not my problem unfortunately, but this is still an incredibly useful video!! thank you!
Thanks!
Thankyou! I actually enjoyed watching and learning from this video instead of trying extremely hard to pay attention and still not retaining any info. 👍😊
THANKS Laura!
My 2004 Tacoma is making the same noise. I thought it was the battery and got a new battery. Starter still made the same noise and I could feel the starter trying to turn the motor. You're the ONLY person that showed this symptom on UA-cam.
Turns out it was the positive battery connector. The one on the battery would not tighten. I bought another connector, used a wire brush to clean all of the connections, and after I replaced the connector, my truck cranked up.
You're energy is contagious man, I love it!
I appreciate that!
The starter looks similar to a Lil vaccum pump 😂 and probably weighs the same and I love his energy ❤️
LOl, IT IS!!!! THANKS for that comment and compliment!
I can tell you love what you do.. keep producing such great content!! This video helped me diagnose my '71 elco issue. 👊🏽💯
I sure do love it, lol. Glad we could help.
What you put in your coffee to get you KICK
"STAW-DED" about "STAW-DEHS" Your the mechanic hype man of car garages ! Right on brother!!
LOLOLOL!!!
This is what I was looking for a long time. I’ve thought it was the relay cutting out. Great job guy for this great video.
You are welcome!!
Great vid...well explained Tim. Astral Auto Repairs is my go to channel 🤝
Appreciate that SprayWay, we have to get together on something!!
I dig his character 🤣😂 I appreciate your efforts brother happy holidays.
Appreciate that bro, and a Happy Holidays to you as well!
four years later and still I have to thank you
Bing!!!!! This one hit the nail right on it's head. Thank you brotha! "Can You Dig It!"
You bet!
Thanks so much for the great video. Straight, simple and to the point. You da Man!
Thanks, glad you liked it.
I love the Romex in the van, along with a resi box
This has 2B the best late night UA-cam algorithm suggestion of all time lol
Wonderful angles and presentation thank you for going above and beyond and getting under the van
The one on my car, at 73k, started sounding like a bunch of little metal rods hitting the floor at once all of a sudden one cold morning, long story short, the replacement one is turning so much faster and makes a completely different, way healthier sound than that one, so they do wear out overtime
Wow, glad you got a new one and it's so much better.
I like the astral aspect
good info, very helpful. after watching this video, i don't think the starter is the issue w/ my car! thank you!
So the humming noise the starter makes as it tries to turn over the engine is a bad sign. Got it brother!
The first thing that came to mind was the totally normal sound of a 1960s/70s dodge. Good info if you dont have one those
Maybe they just had bad starters from the factory lol I wouldn’t put it past Chrysler
@@wyattnyfeler7270 my 84 corvette has done the same all new acdelco starters it’s normal
Those old Chrysler's had gear reduction starters and the bendix would kick out every time the engine fired and did not continue running ,the noise is the starter running after the bendix gear disengaged from flywheel and coming to a stop after you realease the key . The loose starter on van contributed to the failure of the bendix gear . A little locktite will keep the bolts tight. I just replaced the old starter on my 4.9 300 six 90 f150 with minnie gear reduction starter for a 92 thru 96 , they will fit all 4.9 ,sixes,302 and 351w . 1/3 LESS AMPS AND DOUBLE TORQUE! also replace 91 or before ford 2g with 3 g alternator. The old 2g is a fire hazzard and stuggles to keep up with the load demand only 75 amps . The small case 3g is 95 amps with better cooling. And the large case 3 g from 130 amps and up . I used 130 amp large case on 88 4.9 300 , no more starting problems! Enjoy the videos ,keep up the good work!
My truck recently did this lmfao thought it was my engine hahaha
I love that you said girls!! You helped me figure out what’s wrong with my car 😂 thank you!
That's exactly how my Toyota sounds right now. I thought it could be either the starter or alternator. I will be getting it towed tomorrow to my mechanic. Thanks for info.
My 95 Cadillac Deville Concours Sounds Exactly The Same As In Your Video Slow Cranking/Click Noise At Least My Problem Is Solved Thanks
LOL, great. Let us know how it turns out.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos sure enough starter was toast, got one off another Cadillac same year and model and now she starts up great no hesitation whatsoever. She is at 192,700 miles so I'm really greatful.. By the way Sorry for the late response just got real busy with work and stuff lol
@@blueheart_92 Mo problem at all, and THANKS for the update!!
Super so cute. My car also this same problem now only I got it.
How could this is recovered
Plz help me out with the solution
@@srinisha3337 what do u need help wirh
This guy has rizz! Love the vid. Gave me some insight on what was goin on with my crown vic😂
Yep that’s the sound. Best get myself a new starter I think. Very helpful. Cheers for sharing
THANKS!
Yea I’ve been having starter issues the past about week. I went to the gas station just now, filled up a lil then started my car...First thing awful blender sound, that was when I knew I had fucked up.
Thank you for posting this. I couldn’t describe this sound besides imagining a plane engine going off. I got a Buick Century 1993 and your video confirms that it’s not an issue with the cold weather and the battery, it must be the starter. Ordering a new one right now. THANKS!!!
What was the problem sir?
I never saw so much enthusiasm talking about a starter about to die.
My starter just went out on me today on my 1992 ls 400 it's crazy how I pay attention for the noise in was a rattling noise just like that and I always wondered why 🤦♂️ thank u for the knowledge 🤣
Thank you so much I just wanted to know so I know in the future on my Ford Taurus 1999
No problem at all Rickey, and THANKS!
Thank you for the video. Good.
Thanks
Great work bro. My truck started doing this. Now I can change it. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work.
Glad it helped, and let us know how it turns out.
Thank you. I will. God Bless.
How did it work?
Thanks for this video. You confirmed that my starter is going bad. Thankfully I caught it early.
Great to hear! Let us know how it turns out
my truck did this for years.. and I was like, "okay any day now". Finally it gave up. So i went another year beating it with a hammer every day to get it to start. Id say i got my moneys worth out of that one.
Dude, you could've rebuild it and get it cleaned and it would run as new
@@ric-a5560 nah just beat it as mj said
I've been beating on my starter for getting close to 6 months.. I'm starting to wonder if it's ever going to die😂😂😂😂
I love this guy
Lol, thanks
THANK YOU, THAT'S THE KIND OF STUFF I NEED TO LEARN, YOU SEE IM SAVING UP TO BUY ME A BEAUTY QUEEN LIKE THIS ONE
Saved my 81' Caddie from being stranded! Bless you guys, thank you!

Thanks, really appreciate that!!
Thank you for the work you do
That intro alone makes me want to subscribe!
LOL
Nice easy R&R on that starter.
Easiest starter EVER!
I love the enthusiasm of this vid...however I'm not sure which sound to note, the first wuhwuh or the after rrrrrrrrr?
LOL, THANKS! It the rrrrrr after the wuhwuh, LOL!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Thanks a million. Keep up the awesome work 😁👍
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos hahahhahahahahaha
This video is what i was looking for. I have a 74 Nova and the starter sounds like this when trying to start it. Thanks for sharing!
Wish I had that 74 Nova!!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos I just got it not long ago so that will be my winter project this year.
Cool, keep us updated!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos You got it! 👍🏽
Awesome video!
Good stuff
THANKS!
Hey guys love watching your videos, you were very helpful on helping me locate my PCV valve. I also have another question about my truck. Well, my truck is a 5 speed manual transmission. When I first start it up in the morning and put it in reverse the backup lights come but won't move. Sometimes I have to force it in reverse causing the syncronizers to grind. Is it time for a new clutch or do I need a full rebuild?
Thank you my car gave out mid drive and that's the sound it was making
Thanks bro, you help me diagnose my bad starter....Good day sir 🙏
Sir........you are a national treasure! Honest, hardworking, a great teacher, a willingness to share your knowledge and technically sharp. Dr King is smiling from Heaven every time you produce a video.
yeah hes a good mechanic with his skills, but what in gods name does this have to do with MLK? Common stop with the liberal agenda...Just say...God is smiling from heaven...who cares what his color is...
@@tommytomtomt LOL, makes perfect sense!
The big ones are direct drive starters and prone to short life. Always go with the more expensive permanent magnet gear reduction starter
Great video, this is exactly my truck’s issue
I appreciate this video my starter literally gave out on my lunch break and I used all my paycheck for a new ine
It's crazy how they charge so much for these things! What kind of car do you have?
My mom has a 1997 avalon a few years ago her starter failed all it did was click once sometime it took 3 times for it to start but before that she started it twice
Should have put in a gear reduction starter. Put one in my 72 c10 that has a bbc and it starts faster than my brand new impala
I KNOW!!!!!!
Do auto zone sell the reduction starter?
That's exactly what happening to my starter now I know I have to replace it , Great video...thank you
Thanks for the video. My 1971 ford f100 was doing that exact same noise.
Glad it helped
Tim does starters compare to the ones from now they last a long time
Hey Ziggy, I believe it depends on the make. The last time the starter was changed in this van was 1997.
@KeSean Woods We got a video on that one as well: ua-cam.com/video/0XYxK4an0zM/v-deo.html
It also looked like your starter was loose. You could see it moving and the bolt that holds it in place appeared to move.
Yes, I can see that also
I'm originally from Asheville class of 84 TC Robertson way to go guys.
straight to the point...Thank You
"Ok you hear that?"
Honestly, I don't hear anything man..
I can hear and see everything he's doing just fine. Don't criticize.
You must be deaf. When he turns the key and lets it off you hear what sounds like those cars you pull back and usually let go but when you lift it up after pulling it back you get a sound very close to that. Go buy some hearing aids or some hater-raid
It's that winey noise.
It’s clearly grinding
yeah my truck sounded just like that..it wouldn't start...thanks to this video I fix my problem :)
When my starter was going bad, sounded like the car was coughing
too much air, low fuel combination will make sound like this. should consult a mechanic
Entertaining Soul this was 2 months ago
Entertaining Soul and how do you fix this ?
He makes it sound so positive
Love Astral Auto. When he comes to your town, he gonna shut it down !
THANK YOU!
One way clutch on the pinion?
Hope the mounting bolts and threads were still OK.
I hope so to, but how heavy that starter is, it would have been pulled those bolts out, LOL. We'll find out VERY soon.
When you replace the starter, can you please do the sound also to compare to the sound of the bad starter. What part of the bad starter sound should we focus on? I'm sorry if I'm not explaining myself clearly.
No problem, we'll do a before and after. Notice how the starter starts to turn the engine, then all of a sudden you here JUST the starter spinning. Listen to this sound right here: 2:39
The sound on a dying starter would be like its having a hardtime spinning. A new starter sounds more aggressive and strong and doesnt hesitate to spin.
Nice job my friend! :)
Great video, and thanks for showing an example. I’m pretty car savvy, but I like how you broke it down.
I appreciate that!
That starter moves too much, was it loose?
Yes it was
I currently have this problem on my 86 C20. I just bought the starter last September. I guess I'll be exchanging it. Thanks👍🏿👍🏿
Let us know how it turns out.
Exactly what mine sounds like...thanks for this video
You're welcome!
