- It's been one year since we bought our fixer-upper. It's time to reveal how much we've accomplished, with a realistic diy renovation house tour!
A lot of the time renovation house tours feel a little unattainable with huge amounts of money being spent on fancy fixtures and skilled tradespeople, I want to show what average Joe's with very little money and absolutely no skills can achieve in one year. This is a realistic look at how far you could get renovating when you still have a full time job, and other life commitments.

You asked us about whether you should put a wood burning stove in (or a bookshelf). My advice is be wary of buying a wood stove because to properly fit one, your chimney flue will need a stainless steel liner. This is similar to a concertina tube. It will be a bugger to fit the 'tube down the flue because of bends, and it's almost as expensive as buying a wood burning stove! You deffo need one to avoid leakage into your chimney flue brickwork, but the + side, the stainless steel liner vastly improves the stove's efficiency. Another consideration is the cost of logs. On the + side, a wood stove gives out free heat, is absolutely lovely to watch logs burn, and it will keep your house warm and cozy. Shop around and see. However, *do not* fit a 'liner and stove yourselves! The 'stove is cast iron and extremely heavy and fitting a 'liner is a right cuss. I should know, and there is no way I'd ever do it again. .....Kirst, anyone can fit a bookshelf. But though it'll look nice it won't warm your house. ....Lovely video, and good luck with your next project! ~Wendi 🌻
