- The GH5s is an old camera it came out in 2018 but its still very capable. You can pick them up on eBay for about 700 pounds ...they shoot raw out via a full size HDMI ...so you can build a reasonably priced RAW camera rig ( with usable auto focus) ...but you need an external recorder .
You have two real choices, shoot pro res raw on an Atomos or Braw on the Blackmagic video assist. If you really want to get the most out of raw footage you need to get it into Davinci resolve ...I have tried a couple of methods with the GH5s. Shooting Pro res raw and grading in FCPX /shooting Pro res raw converting DNG and grading in Resolve .And finally shooting on the video assist and shooting Braw....The clear work flow winner is shooting on Braw on the video assist......your mile may vary ....but the Assist has some other bonus as well .
The GH5S still gets the job done in 2024 for me.
still a great camera and shoot it to Braw makes it even better
@@28allday Presently, I pair the GH5S with the Ninja V. But I look forward to trying it with Braw.
its very much about work flow if your premier or FCPX I think Pro res raw is fine if your using resolve Braw is the way to go I find you can get much more flexibility in post with braw as resolve is far more powerful than FCPX or premier for color work
@@28allday I only edit with Davinci Resolve. But I had the Atomos’s prior to getting 3 GH5S cameras. They are much cheaper than Blackmagic’s monitors, especially since I needed several for multicam shoots (5 cams). Also, I typically use ProRes HQ. I plan to some get BlackMagic monitors in the future especially for my S5ii and GH6.
@@28alldayI use Davinci Resolve. Will likely get BlackMagic’s monitor to test the GH5S with Braw..
Interesting video, thanks. What are the benefits of shooting in RAW, rather than log format?
flexibility in post production ...I have just actually had to deal with this today I was given an interview to work with that had been shot sony slog3 XF-AVC ...however the camera man was shooting under a very strange mixed lighting condition..and had his white balance totally wrong ...it took ages to grade it to look half right ...with RAW I could have just dialled in a new temp ...thats one thing. most raw is 12 to 16 bit image so very high colour fidelity and you really can push it in post ...Braw/Canon raw etc are great formats to work with and especially Braw you can edit it straight way with out proxies if you have a powerful enough machine ...
How do I choose between including camera controls, say for recording my settings and the camera's response, and not?
Does this apply to newer Lumix G cameras? The G9? (I don't know wich isnewer).
Lumix S1?
Hi this is just for the GH5s I’m not sure which other LUMIX camera support raw ..are you trying to record the overlay to the video ?
Gracias, creí que hablabas de las gh5 pero leí mal. Igual fue muy interesante.
yes the the GH5 sadly can,t shoot Raw its only the GH5s
where can I download some GH5s raw video for testing?
there should be some online if you google you can do either pro res raw or Braw
IF YOU HAVE A CAMERA LIKE THE GH6 OR MORE ADVANCED YOU DON'T NEED A MONITOR THAT RECORDS (LIKE THE BM) BECAUSE YOU ALREADY HAVE GOOD RESOLUTION OUTPUTS, ON THE OTHER HAND THE MONITOR METERS ARE USELESS BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPERIMPOSED ON THE IMAGE, THAT IS, EITHER YOU SEE THE IMAGE OR YOU SEE GRAPHICA, JUST BUY A REGULAR MONITOR WITH SCOPES AND THAT'S IT.I'M RETURNING MINE FOR THAT REASON
No you don’t get the meter over lay on the on the video assist you can turn them off so you can still see them on the over lay but they are not burned into the footage if you send the overlays from the camera to the BM yes it will be burned in
This video is crazy overexposed.
o sea hablas de la g5 y anuncias gh6? mucha habladera y no directo al punto
