$19 a sq... I average 3.5 sq an hour on cut up roofs, 4.5 sq an hour on open.... 3.5 sq an hour x $19.00 a sq = 66.50 an hour. 4.5 sq an hour x $19.00 a sq = $85.50 (hour). Fist off man thanks for all the videos. I've been learning a great amount from them. Is there any trick to shooting that nail for the chalk line to aim it right at the edge of the shingle like that? Your accuracy was nuts dude. Also when you open the bundle of shingles and slide it down your steps do you count based off the amount in each bundle? Looks like ya split it up in fours every fourth step I thought I seen you drop a couple more shingles. It would be badass to get on a roof with your crew and learn some real shit.

Watching a roof go on fast is always impressive. But does fast=good? Fast probably = ok... I'm sure your roofs are good. There is a reduction in quality, the faster a task is performed ( by a human)
It's not an attack on you, it's just science. You have to pay the crew for a day's labor anyway. What not install a roof with methodical attention to detail rather than at 600 miles per hour? Just a thought. I'm an electrician. If I wired your entire house in one day would you be concerned?

his goals is to get the entirety of the plastic off the roof in one go, but sometimes it tears tiny pieces off due to the weight of the bundle, so he pockets it cause the wind wont let you throw those off the roof and they will get in your way

the white line means you put your nails there and there's no tar line to nail. that was 3 tabs. these are laminate shingles and your nails have to go through the common bond. as long as they don't show when you put the next one on you're good

Does it really matter how fast you go for the consumer? When I got my roof put on, the company charged me a certain price. I did not have to pay per the hour. I am pretty sure most companies charge by the job, not by the hour. They could work on my roof all year and I could not care less, because it is a certain price. If you are an hourly employee, then you are just throwing money in the toilet by going fast. If you are on salary, then that would make sense because the sooner you get done, the more time you have to spend doing what you want. Everyone knows that roofers can not work all year long due to rain, snow, etc. That is one of the reasons no one wants to be a roofer. Plus it is not an easy job on top of that. It is a hard labor job where some weeks you might not get a pay check because of weather at some companies. If you could work all year long and pull in 80 to 100k then more people would do it. I did it growing up with my step dad on his side jobs from the 7th to 12th grade. Then I went and worked where he worked for about 6 months. The weather was not great and we would get rained out and lose pay. Left there and went to the Army for 9 years and then to the oilfield for 4 plus years. Figured if I had to do hard labor, then I would go where the money is or where they give you free food and lodging. Roofing is a hard job, but if you have a good crew then it is fun. They did not have the air guns when I was doing it, but there were one or two guys that were just as fast using a hammer. The boss man was around 60 at the time. He said he joined the Marines and it was hard, then he started roofing and it was harder. He said he was afraid to go anywhere else lol. He ended up retiring from the company and then coming back and working for them again. He is somewhere around 75 now. Wrote you a long comment, because I know it improves your stuff on UA-cam. Much respect to the roofers out there.

They want to push and get the job done so they can go to the next job. They only make a certain amount of profit per job. Your analysis is the same as saying, "Why would Ford want to make so many cars per year? I only buy the one car and will have it for years. Ford should just take all year making my one car and focus on having fun."

Everyone is talking like they can move so much faster or the amigos do it so much faster. With speed you lose quality. They move fast and skip town. Bad nail placement is the biggest cause of roofs leaking. He's moving steady and watching every nail he places. I'm willing to pay a little more and wait longer any day for that.
