Tiny Planet Effect Photoshop Tutorial

In today's Adobe Photoshop tutorial we're going to have some fun creating a tiny planet effect, which is a classic Photoshop tutorial subject, but this kind of effect has come back into the limelight with new 3D cameras now being used to produce video footage in the same style. I'll be covering the process of making the effect with a static image by manipulating it in Photoshop, but as an extra touch, I'll show you how to superimpose an additional picture of a person to simulate the appearance of those 3D videos like the GoPro Fusion.

That's very clever. Nicely demonstrated expertise in PS.
I'm afraid my skills are not at that level, but I did try a few panoramics I had - but only about one in a dozen worked for me. I used the GIMP "Filter ---> Map ---> Little Planet" after squaring the image - however, I did think next time I'd actually increase the height (rather than decrease the width) to have a larger image.
By pure luck my image finally came out okay, but usually they end up looking like a Snail's Shell, because the skyline isn't even at both sides of the original shot. I doubt I would take as much time and trouble to do what you did, but I'm impatient and, like I said, not as skilled in photo-editing.
Now that I have an idea what works I will keep trying. Thanks for this. :)

I am stuck at how you made the selection black. Played that part 10 times. "Fill this selection with black then press command + D to deselect" makes no sense hearing this and seeing how a nice new black selection appears as a new layer...
