I own both bottles you have on your table, and a couple from Glen Scotia... Victoriana and the 15. I tend to reach for the latter two more often.

Enjoying your video Jason picked up a bottle of the kill Karen 12 earlier this year but today found four on the shelf for $95 apiece Canadian so I picked up three of them left one for the next guy. I’m excited to open one up.

Hi Jason. Picked up the KK 12 last week at my local specialist shop,€59 not bad. Benromach I think is a good alternative to springbank. At least it’s available and at decent prices and of course it’s damn good whisky. Slàinte Jason.

I like KK12 but I think some of the earlier versions were a bit better. On a related note, I opened up Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 7 yesterday and while the initial nose was nothing special, the palate and finish are glorious. I will continue to believe in Glengyle as an integrity distillery and one with a bright future. Cheers Jason. Did you watch the OSWA nominations? Nice to see you listed on the contributors list. The Blended Whisky category was the hardest for me. I don't have a lot of malt+grain blends in my collection but I have to admit that Chivas 18 is quite good.

The KK12 is occasionally on the shelf here in the NY area. I think I've seen 7 or 8 SBs this year and only 5 KK12s. The prices are usually the same $115 but I saw a KK12 for $75 last week.
Unfortunately, or fortunately I have 2 kkk12's from 2019 and a 2020 SB10. I did score a SherryKK8 at retail a month ago. The KK heavily peated is appearing quite a bit, batches 6,7&8.
For reality, I would always put my money behind Glen Scotia 15. KK is funky too, but to find a stroke of luck at retail is ridiculous.

I agree with some other's comments (here/there) that Kilkerran can develop with time (weeks/months?) after opening, but that's not unique to KK. A bottle of KK16 underwhelmed at first, but then began to shine. Similar experience (even more-so) with Benromach 15, and there will be others.
As to your question: Kilkerran and Springbank are about as close as peas in a pod (I don't mean just spatially/physically), yet also different/distinctive, which I find pleasing/intriguing/as it should be. So in a literal sense there's no replacement for Springbank, but several possibilities depending on one's inclination/tolerance/taste: Kilkerran, Benromach, Ardnamurchan, Ben Nevis, Glen Scotia...? Maybe some Loch Lomond. KK12 is an "all-rounder", and in that sense similar to HP12. Probably others.
Re. supplies of whiskies to the US: the 750ml requirement was a hindrance but I believe has since been relaxed, allowing 700ml bottles in? Whisky gets "allocated" to markets, hence problems with imbalances/non-supply.
Re. Glen Scotia I enjoyed from a friend's (basic) Double Cask bottle so bought a three-pack of GS minis to try, but all were quite disappointing. I only twigged when trying a shop sample of Victoriana from a full-size bottle that was so much better than from the 50ml mini. Unfortunately, some GS prices have risen ~40-50% at a time of (non-annual) inflation of less than 20%. "Formerly underpriced" may be one response but my wallet's shrinking, not keeping up, so I've yet to try a full-size GS15 and compare.

I thought Kilkerran buy some malted barley in.
Springbank source most of their barley from Eastern Scotland/near Aberdeen. The exception is their Local Barley special releases. Kilkerran's website claims similar, and that their barley is malted in Springbank's floor maltings. That implies, but does not specifically say, that all their barley is malted in Campbeltown rather than being brought in in an already-malted form.

The only Kilkerran bottling that hasn’t the same barley as Springbank is the Heavily Peated range, it isn’t peated by Springbank.
