  • Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Stefanie Powers, Celebrated Actress, Author & Conservationist
    About Harvey's guest:
Today’s special guest, Stefanie Powers, is a beloved actress, author and animal welfare advocate, whose been a major presence in the entertainment world since she was a contract player at Columbia Pictures at the age of 16.
She’s appeared in 31 movies, including “Die, Die My Darling”, “McLintock”, “The Magnificent Seven Ride”, “Herbie Rides Again”, “Escape to Athena”, “Jump”, “The Artist’s Wife”, and many more.
She’s co-starred with great screen legends like John Wayne, Maureen O’Hara, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner, Bing Crosby, Sammy Davis Jr. and Glenn Ford. Her television career includes over 25 mini-series, 200 guest starring appearances, 35 made-for-TV movies, and THREE TV series.
Her first show, “The Girl from UNCLE”, was the first hour-long American TV series starring a woman in the leading role. She then went on to star in “The Feather and Father Gang”.
But she is perhaps best remembered as Jennifer Hart on the blockbuster long-running TV series “Hart to Hart”, for which she was nominated for TWO Emmy Awards and FIVE Golden Globe Awards.
She’s appeared on stage in London’s West End and throughout the country, in many highly acclaimed productions including “How the Other Half Loves”, “View From the Bridge”, “Matador”, “On Golden Pond”, “The King and I”, and of course, “Love Letters”, co-starring Robert Wagner, in a hugely successful national tour, for which she won the Sarah Siddons Award. She’s written award-winning screenplays, and she recorded a wonderful CD with the legendary jazz artist, Page Cavanaugh, called “On the Same Page”.
And if THAT weren’t enough, she’s written 3 best-selling books, “Stefanie Powers: Superlife”, “Powers Pilates: Stefanie Powers’ Guide to Longevity and Well-Being Through Pilates”, and her poignant and compelling memoir, “One From the Hart”.
She’s a passionate lover of travel, and speaks 7 languages, including KISWAHILI and Mandarin.
But her greatest passion is her lifelong devotion to animal preservation and protection. She’s the founder and president of the William Holden Wildlife Foundation, continuing the groundbreaking species conservation work and education programs in Kenya, honouring the legacy of her beloved longtime partner, mentor and best friend, William Holden. She’s intensely involved, at a grassroots level, with a number of zoos and wildlife organizations, whose mission is to protect and preserve endangered species, who are in great peril of extinction.
And she’s received dozens of international honours for her tireless commitment to this vitally important cause.

Folks, I know I say this a lot, but THIS interview is one of our very best. Stefanie Powers is an irrepressible force of nature: a brilliant raconteur, an insightful commentator on the lamentable state of the current TV industry, and a passionate advocate for animal conservation and the environment. This interview is long, but our production team decided not to edit anything out, because what she has to say is so vitally important. Trust me, Stefanie Powers is definitely worth an hour of your time. I hope you'll post comments and give me your thoughts about this interview.

I’ve watched a lot of interviews with Ms. Powers. This one ranks right at the top. You clearly did your homework. You were thorough & asked insightful questions. There’s a video, here on UA-cam, “An evening with Stefanie Powers,” posted in march, 2014, she said she has to do an acting job to be able to afford flying between the United States and Kenya, because all the money she gets for WHWF goes to the charity.
I thought perhaps she was making a joke, and i forget which airline I used (United? American? Delta?), but the airfare between Los Angeles and Kenya is between $3,000-$4,000!
      I was STUNNED!
She turns 80 in just under a month!

Fortunately, there have been a few interviews in the past three years, some of comparable length. Because you're right, Stefanie is always worth listening for an hour (and longer). She is an amazing raconteur, indeed, entertaining on the one hand (when she talks about filming of "Die! Die! My Darling!" in London, for example), and educational on the other hand (when she talks about desertification and avoiding desertification or respectively, making deserts productive or fruitful by using desalinated seawater). She is definitley someone who has something to say and who should be listened to. And thank you, Harvey Brownstone, for giving Stefanie Powers the space to share her memories and perspectives with us. Thank you for this great, entertaining interview.

You can't remake something as wonderful as Hart to Hart because it was the easy affection between the two stars that made it so special. They loved each other and it showed.
You can't just make that happen, it has to be natural.

I believe i was only 12 years old when Hart to Hart started but as i got older is when i recall started watch the show, Which I still till this day love both Stefanie and Robert Wagner. They are my most favorite tv married couple. I guess because I was so young at the time she made all those movies before Hart to Hart. I was like WOW! This woman is so AMAZING! And has done a lot even before hart to hart. Since i have been old enough to watch any movies she have done after hart to hart has been great. She looks like a wonderful caring person inside and out. I'v always wanted her and Robert Wagner to play mr and mrs claus. and more. I can just go on and on about her. One thing i found out is that Stefanie and I both are Scorpios. Again. Harvey, you just keep hitting it out of the park with these interviews!! As so many others I have been a fan of Stephanie Powers for decades. I became a fan of Stephanie's when she guessed it on the 6 Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. I was and contiunue to be a ❤️ 2 ❤️ fan.
Although "The Girl from Uncle", was a wee bit before my time I have seen the show in reruns and loved it. I've seen and loved many her tv movie, but I must share that although it wasn't a main role I loved Stephanie in "Hollywood wives" I really felt that her character of "Montana Gray", gotta love that name, was a lot like how I imagined Stephanie was in real life, in regards to the personality and attitude of the character, no pretense. As I've told you in our personal correspondence, I am so grateful to you for interviewing all these wonderful people, who are rarely interviewed by a person who not only does their homework, but who asks many questions that are often never asked. Thank you, gracias, merci, dank!! 👍

Stefanie is a force. She is 100% correct regarding the environment. She mentioned the salinization plants in California. Israel manages to run the largest desalinization plant in the world and deliver water to consumers at a lower price than what the current rates are in the city of Los Angeles. There’s obviously too much money to be made by charging consumers here in LA as opposed to building efficient environmentally sensitive desalination plants.

@xqsme4783 our show has now reached a level of success, notoriety and prestige that we no longer need to beg and plead major celebrities to appear on our show. Many big stars are clamoring to come on the show. So to be honest, at this point, when a star declines, we move on to the next one.

The people there are mean and cruel to these divine beings. 🦇
