About Harvey’s guest

In her 64 year career, she made 95 films, including “Double Indemnity”, “The Lady Eve”, “Golden Boy”, and “Meet John Doe”. She was nominated for 4 Academy Awards and won an Honorary Oscar. There are no stars nowadays and very doubt will be like Ms. Stanwyck. Thank you to Mr. Johnson for keeping Barbara relevant to those who enjoy the classic great movies.
Thank YOU for your support of our show. Your feedback means a great deal to me.
The computer killed the cinema so there are no movie stars. There is no venue for development of movie stars...no studio system....and the public does not care.
What an enjoyable interview! Thank you so much.
Thank you so very much for watching!🙏❤️
I think Barbara Stanwyck was a fabulous talented actress she was absolutely one of my favorite actresses along with Betty Davis
I agree 100%. They were my 2 favorite actresses along with Joan Crawford
Barbara Stanwyck once told Robert Osborne upon leaving her home after an interview, "Just remember, I'm still just Ruby Stevens".
She never forgot where she came from.
One of my favorite stars. Very informative interview. I was at that Lincoln Center award show in 1981 that Ray spoke of. I got to meet Ms. Stanwyck on the arm of William Holden and Anne Baxter (the great Eve) on his right arm. I got to speak to her that night. I was tongue-tied and probably intoxicated, she said to me in her deep voice, Thank you. A great night indeed. A marvelous actress.
WOW I wish I had been there with you!!!
What a beautiful interview, the both of you gentlemen ❤, and Mr Johnson truly shared the best stories, so endearing to Ms Stanwycks noble character and amazing acting , Yes Stella Dallas fav
I am so pleased that you enjoyed the interview. It was such fun filming it.
Loved Barbara stanwyk. She was my mom’s favorite actress , enjoyed the interview.
Thanks so much!
Love this interview. So happy to hear Barbara was such a good person. I'm not surprised. She was a legend as well as a team player. Thank you. 💖
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed this interview
Two of my favorite Barbara Stanwyck films are "The Bitter Tea of General Yen" and "The Miracle Woman".
Oddly two of her probably rarest films in a long list of films made over many future years.
The years go by and later favorites are "Clash by Night" and "The Furies" not to forget her television performance in "The Thornbirds".
I love all those films.
Thank You for this informative interview. I’m a great fan of Ms. Stanwyck because of William Holden. I hope you can feature an interview about Bill Holden as well.
Thank you to Ray Johnson for sharing facts about Ms. Stanwyck. He is really a super fan!
We did have Stefanie Powers on our show. She spoke about Bill Holden.
Victoria Wilson’s 2-volume biography of Stanwyck is the unrivaled standard for all things “Missy.” Volume 1 has already been published (“A Life of Barbara Stanwyck: Steel-True 1907-1940”) and Volume 2 will arrive in the near future. Simon & Schuster is the publisher.
Good to know. Thanks.
I don't believe Volume 2 will ever be released, it is 11 years since Volume 1. I didn't mention the book in the interview because I wouldn't say I liked it.
@rayjohnson5314 I don’t believe there will ever be a Volume 2
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 No, there will be no Volume 2. Volume 1 was terrible. I know of quite a few people who refused to cooperate her including most of the people who knew her the last 20 years of her life including her godson someone named "Terry Ellsworth" who said "I will never cooperate with any biographer. Barbara would not approve."
@cathydrumobich9045 I agree
I'm glad you addressed the situation with her adopted son because I always felt that blemished her reputation. I guess it was a case of unrealistic expectations and the fact with all she was able to achieve in life that she felt the son failed her, rather than vice versa. Keep the interviews coming.
Thank you so much for your support. Greatly appreciated. ❤️
I had never considered that her lack of Academy Award recognition was due to being an independant actress without the support of a studio to prmote her. Fascinating point. She certainly deserved one for any number of films. Ive never seen a bad Stanwyck performance. She was the best.
She sure was.
Joel MacCrae must have been very popular with many actresses including Barbara Stanwyck. He also starred in 5 films opposite Miriam Hopkins.
He most certainly was. Don’t miss my interview with his grandson Wyatt McCrae.
Stanny is my all time fave.
Live that!! Stanny!! Thanks for watching
Love Barbara Stanwyck to she is another amazing Actress
I’m so happy you enjoyed this interview. Thank you so much for watching

@JimSteele-ck5vu well we try our best to get great guests but it’s not easy believe me.
I just watched "Remember the Night" last evening. One of my favourite Christmas movies. I could watch Missy read the phone book. A top 3 actress in classic films. At least for me ! ❤
Yes Missy is one of my all time favourites
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980And you are my absolute favourite interviewer Mr. Brownstone! It's so wonderful seeing your success build and build. I love all of your interviews but I'm partial to these "Gone But Not Forgotten " series. Thanks again for all you do. Now to decide on which Stanwyck film I'll watch later. 😊
@rhd123 what a beautiful thing to say. You’ve made me teary eyed and given me goosebumps!!! Thank you so much!! I put my heart and soul into every episode of our show and feedback such as yours means a great deal to me.
Stanwyck was the BEST! Always have loved her, especially the 1940's films. Like Cary Grant, she was always great no matter the film. Hard nothing to compare when the actor is always superb! ...and yet no oscar. (except honorary) What a career. I think she had the finest and longest career above all her contemporaries,
I agree 100%. Thank you so much for watching our show. 🙏❤️
Thank you good Harvey. Jeffrey
You are very welcome indeed
She was such a great actress what a pro she was the best of the best ❤ . 5:08
Absolutely
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 dear Harvey you are great person I love what you do golden stars of Hollywood were the best it's so nice you reply to people it's pleasure to see your name I loved Susan Hayward to no one could walk like her keep up good work .
@grant1088 thank you so much!! Your beautiful words of praise and encouragement mean more to me than you can ever know. Thank you from my heart to yours❤️
Cool interview, Barbara Stanwyck is criminally underrated, she's right up there with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford maybe better.
Yes absolutely.
40 guns!! Yes....I just saw that clip yesterday, and it is one hell of a stunt. Very dangerous, but she did it like a pro and carries on. I'm thinking she must have been a natural athlete, but we'll never know. I was raised watch Barbara Stanwyck in the movies and tv. Ray's drawing of Barbara is quite good. Great interview.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your great memories!
I'm just curious about a statement Ray made regarding a movie he first saw Barbara in when he was 9 years old. He referred to a scene where she woke up with sunglasses on thinking about being alone with her two sons. Do you happen to know the film Ray was referring to? My Reputation???
Thank you so much for mentioning that. I could not believe that I forgot to name the first film that I ever saw her in, and yes, it was indeed "My Reputation". She wasn't wearing sunglasses, what struck me in that scene was the close-up of her eyes as she stared into space, the morning after her husband's funeral.
Great movie. Loved it.
Garbo once stated she never married as no man wanted to be called "Mr. Garbo".
More of the Hollywood Stars could have benefited from this statement.
So true.
She had a torrid love affair with Robert Wagner. She was 45 and he was 22. She was amazing. Ruby was a real genuine star. She was abused gang raped and was as tough as a bar of iron.
I hope you watch my interview with Robert Wagner. We talked about my relationship with Barbara Stanwyck.
As a comparison, STERLING HAYDEN s ashes were scattered into his beloved Bay, (off Sausalito/Angel Island ? dunno the exact area, 86. He was a sailor, not an actor, an OSS vet w Silver Star ! ).
Interesting. You are very knowledgeable. Have you checked out our other great interviews?
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 JUST COLLIDED w yr ch yesterday. Takes time. Been watching Yt effectively bout 8 yrs. The recommendation gods nevuhhh before having chosen yr ch 4 me except the other day. An odd world. My other hobbies are hardbop, deep soul, and the Pacific War.

Sorry, Wrong Number! 📞
Well as long as you watch our show you’ve reached the RIGHT number!!😜
"Bedroom has always been every gal s best business office ..." (85%? accurate/exact/direct Barb movie quote. Just can t recall exactly from which film). WITNESS TO MURDER is not on Yt ! (was some 7 yrs ago, briefly. Vanished ! It s like REAR WINDOW II ).
EXECUTIVE SUITE, CRIME OF PASSION, CLASH BY NIGHT, THELMA JORDA(O)N - my pers favs. M.Ivers by Milchstein also sim cat.
Thanks for sharing
@sulevsidanna9981 - It was " They say"a moonlit deck is a woman's business office" It is from my favorite film, "The Lady Eve!
@rayjohnson5314 I love that film.
@@rayjohnson5314 FIGURED. That "bedroom" was 2 risque for 1944 or so. Saw it on Big Screen 28 yrs ago @ the Finnish Film Archive theater Bio Orion, dt Helsinki. Can t remember everything, not a super brain. Haven t seen all on her that is avail on the new excellent forum herein, time just will not allow, and have quite a few other fav people, similarly, such as CYD CHARISSE, V. MAYO, LOMBARD, to name a few. (+ the males, Holden, Mitch, Mc Queen, Mc Crea etc). Around 1994 I ordered the A4 - sized b&w book from Roy Johnson s excellent, now demised store on Market, near The Castro, called STARRING MISS(?) BARBARA STANWYCK. Can t recall the author s name, it s downstairs, but gather it is one of the best on her still ...just suitable 1970s edginess in b&w offset tech picture quality gives it perfect noirish period feel. 🇫🇮
@@rayjohnson5314 FIGURED. Can t remember everything, not a super hippocampus ..saw the film 28 yrs ago on Big Screen @ the Finn8sh Film Archive theater, The Orion, dt Helsinki. P.Sturges was virtually in the same league as Orson the cigarman. .. . "Bedroom" would have been far 2 risque for 1945. Hays Code was a pain in the ...nixxed as many productions as the notorious Blacklist by HUAC.
STARRING MISS BARBARA STANWYCK by Ella Smith - Crown Publishers, 1974 ; a fairly large A4 sized b&w, hb book w dj I ve owned since the early 90s. Some direct quotes from Barb s cynical but life-affirming lips I found on a note I ve enclosed inside :
1) "The theater is a tough jungle, kids. I got no glory, no glamor and just bruises on my illusions". (prob from LADY OF BURLESQUE (?).
2) "What big disappointments we are to each other : you've got a mother with no principles and I've got a daughter with no guts". (from ALL I DESIRE)
3) "Big mouth, fast dollar ! What are you trying to buy ? The world's approval ? (from CLASH BY NIGHT ..to Bob Ryan)
4) "I need him like a turkey needs an axe". ( ? = can t remember, source missing)
5) " Go peel an eel ! " (from THE LADY EVE)
6) (repeat ) : "Moonlit deck has always been a smart girl's best business office". (from THE LADY EVE ...N=(?) ....
Suggest order the oop book thru abebooks.com subdealers. Well worth whaddevvuhh it now costs ...an accurate history + an excellent picture quality, though offset, very noirish general atmosphere, while she was still workin & goin strong !
VIVA BARBARA !
Saludos cordiales desde Finlandia 🇫🇮
Thanks for sharing all those wonderful quotes
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 I MOMENTARILY posted a direct message, as u most likely noticed, to Ray Johnson. He could provide us with more similar direct quotes.

You almost go the quote from The Lady Eve right. I know that script off by heart. "I need him like the axe needs the turkey!"
