Another great double reaction. The extra dancers were called SisterBones.
'4 No Uta' ('Song 4' or perhaps more accurately 'Song of 4') is great fun. There are several puns and plays on words that we just don't get in English and they are really what the song is about.
There are two counting systems in Japan - 4 is yon in one of them (so everybody was singing along with the "Yon Yon" chants of course), it is shi in the other. Shi also means 'to die' or death and as a result 4 (shi) is considered unlucky and it is avoided (even more than 13 is avoided in the west). What they were doing (apart from giving us lessons in counting) was listing words that also contain 'shi' (eg Bitamin no shi - vitamin C) and saying they don't mean to die, so neither does 4 and it is just a silly superstition.
The choreo was also quite clever - apart from holding up 4 fingers they were making the figure 4 with their arms and with their legs at various points and in end poses etc. Also holding their fingers to their lips like we would to say "shhh" - in Japan shhh is ... "shi".
Full writing credits for '4 No Uta' (lyrics and music - not the arrangement) are given to Black BABYMETAL (Yui and Moa). They were challenged by Su to write a song about the number 4 while on the tour bus in Singapore when they were 12. They then drove the staff mad running round singing it non stop, so much so the staff complained about them. So of course Koba turned it into a song for Black BABYMETAL and it was on the first album.
Their songs about banana and wood have never been heard sadly.
You found the Legend Z performance of 'Ijime Dame Zettai' - a very special concert. This was their last solo show before Su's graduation from Sakura Gakuin and there were fears among the fans it would be their last since the fact that BABYMETAL would be separating from SG along with Su was not widely known yet.
The white costumes for the encores were the only time they wore all white.
This was only the second time the Kami Band had appeared - and they had a completely different line up to the first time at Legend I. For Legend Z we had Leda Cygnus, Takayoshi Ohmura and Hideki Aoyama all making their debuts and, making his only appearance, IKUO on bass.
They played 2 encore songs in the white costumes - they had done 'Headbanger' in their normal costumes then there was a countdown to the end of BABYMETAL and its rebirth before they came back in white for BABYMETAL Death' and finally 'IDZ'.
IDZ means Bullying. No More, For Ever (or Absolutely).

One thing about Babaymetal I've found that sets them apart is after most every song, you have to catch your breath. The vids, music, and performance are loud and fast!!! HOLD ON - It's a real trip!!

IDZ at Tokyo 2013 is great but their performance of it at Sonisphere, UK, 2014 is utterly incredible - close-up excellent film and audio of the Kami Band and the girls, their 1st appearance at a Metal fest outside of Japan, the girls thinking they were going to be on a side stage but being told at the last minute that they were on the main stage where 60,000 Metal heads who'd never heard of Babymetal were waiting for Iron Maiden...and they killed it, won many new fans, sold more merch than any other band that weekend and sold out Wembley in the UK in the following year. Su says it was her favourite concert of her career as they knew at the end they'd been accepted by the Metal community outside of Japan. I'm sure no-one would mind if you did 2 reactions to IDZ! It would make the Fox God happy too! 🦊🤘🤣🤘🦊

    Excellent double feature, thanks!
"Yon no uta" is a very special song given the fact it was written by Yui and Moa during a Bus trip in Singapore.
"Ijime, Dame, Zettai" is equally special, being this their second song attending to the live performances, premiering in July 2011. It was released way later (January 2013).
And this performance with the white costumes is even more special. That meant a new life to BABYMETAL after Su having to graduate from (leave) Sakura Gakuin and splitting to create an independent entity. The white outfits symbolizes a new beginning. It's a little like what happened during the recent concerts at PIA Arena in Yokohama on April this year.

    _Yon Yon!_
MoiMoi coming back with their own exclusive song and kawaii explosion. I wonder if this aesthetic Lil Uzi Vert was looking for in his recent collab with BM.🤔
4 No Uta (or "Song 4") is another Black Babymetal song and is a challenge to our girls and giving another social reform message, this time trying to stop with the superstition around the number 4.👀
"4" got two ways of pronounce in Japanese, _shi_ is the right way, but that word is also similar to "die", that's why they use _yon,_ the other way, 4 or "shi" is associated with bad luck, similar to number 13 for some westerners. Our girls here are trying to teaching us in a funny song and choreo that the _shi_ isn't always related to bad things.
Always love that reggae breakdown reaction, unexpected, especially over that Metallica - Master Of Puppets riffs, so cool.
Oh btw this song got the credits over YuiMetal and MoaMetal, until "Divine Attack- Shingeki" with SuMetal lyrics credits last year, this was the only song with them on the credits, the funny story is while traveling on the bus at live tour in Singapore, SuMetal challenge the girls to do a song with this theme, they were singing this all the time that even the stuff members got stuck with that in their head, the rest is story, is a super engaging song with great crowd participation and who don't wanna do that with our lovely girls back then? Of course this song was one of the girls favorites back then.
Like you noticed this was another live at Budokan 2014 along with the sister-bones helping as a backing dancers.
This song also got a MoaMetal solo version live at Legend S 2017, that was the sudden first live concert without YuiMetal.
There's also another unique version called Song 4 (444 Ver.) with lines from the girls in the reggae section.
Finally, you're very much welcome to celebrate unofficially Yon Yon Day (April 4) every year after official Fox Day (April 1). Yon Yon!
See you next time and kitsune up 🦊🤘🔥

One of those rare versions of IDZ with the girls dressed totally in white costumes, much similar to what you can see at Monochrome Piano Version with the mysterious three figures dressed in white.
This was at Legend Z 2013 part of the first trilogy of live concerts called "Legend I, D, Z" started in 2012 and ending with this concert everybody thought it would be the end of BM because Suzuka was about to finish/graduates from SG.
She said something unique at the end like never before and after: "Take care of your neck!" lol
I like this unique version but still I concur with all suggestions over the live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, that is a must watch version and should have been your first suggestion to hear this song.

I've been fortunate enough to travel to Japan twice to see Babymetal, and seeing them in their homeland in front of home fans is definitely worth making the trip for. The Japanese fans are always incredibly gracious and welcoming to international fans and getting to be part of the fan culture they have in Japan is one of the highlights of going. In addition, you get the chance to do things like visit the Fox God bar in Tokyo or make the pilgrimage to Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine.
4 No Uta is one of those super fun crowd participation songs that really shines live. Accoridng to Babymetal lore, Yui and Moa came up with it on the tour bus while they were traveling between shows and drove everyone crazy by singing it incessantly the way kids do when get something in their heads, and eventually it got turned into the song you saw. Yui and Moa are credited as the song writers for it.
IDZ is one of their big anthems that they play as part of the finale of their big shows. It was the finale on their recent Australian tour, so I got to see it three times in four days, which was pretty awesome.

6:18 Yon or Shi are 4, but Shi is also death, so their are a lot of people superstitious about the number 4 in the east, like 13 in the west.
The song was written by Yuimetal and Moametal when they were 13 on the tour bus in Singapore after a suggestion by Su-metal. The arrangement is not from them.
The lyrics are about trying to show on reason to be superstitious, their are lots of fun words with Shi as well.
They sing Yon Yon, so it's track number 8 on the album. 🙂

"Song 4": those girls are having a blast!!!
As for IDZ: most people would suggest the 2014 Sonisphere version because that was when BABYMETAL had there first real appearance before a live audience outside of Japan (the United Kingdom). Evidently that British crowd can get ornery - they've been known to throw bottles and such at bands they didn't care for - and the girls were quite nervous, but they won the crowd over, and ended up being a milestone event for BABYMETAL. It was a tough decision but I opted for this version because it is one of the very rare instances of the girls performing in something other than their usual black, silver, and red.
How's about finishing that list then tell us which ones (yes, plural) are your favorite BABYMETAL song? 😁

    4no Uta Song4:-
The riffs (interpretations) similar to Metallica Master Of Puppets in a way after the first verse is sung.
I'm sure most of us have heard some version about the genesis of the song Yon no Uta (Song 4).
Yui and Moa are said to have made up this song during the Singapore 🇸🇬 2013 tour, and repeated it over and over again to the point that staff complained about it.
Which to my mind is hilarious.
I heard recently that Su suggested the theme of "4" as a challenge to Yui and Moa after they successfully made up songs on the themes of "banana" and "wood".

On November 8, 2012, an official trailer for the single and accompanying music was uploaded to the band's official UA-cam channel. The trailers, along with a live performance at Sonisphere Festival, subtitled the song as "No More Bullying" and "No More, Bullying, Forever", respectively. An interview with the producers of the band was published in the December issue of Marquee to promote the single's release in January.

The single also had a promotional release to customers who purchased tickets to live performances of Legend "I", "D", or "Z".

They are defending the number 4, because there are two ways to say the word 4 in Japan: Shi, and Yon. For example, they are saying that 4 isn't bad because you get it from the sun and oranges: Vitamin C, or as they pronounce it in Japan, "Bitamin Shi". And what a great way to bring up something like "hey, mon!!" (think in a heavy Jamaican or Bahamian accent), with "yon", hence why they brought in reggae. It's the cutest, catchiest yet heaviest song done by the youngest girls in the group. That's another reason why there was Black Babymetal; the contrast of the youngest, cutest (kawaii) girls getting the heaviest songs.

Nothing wrong with being emotional here. I always feel like they’re my little sisters that started off small and now selling out stadiums with everyone singing along with their songs. You just can’t help but feel a sense of pride because they’ve been counted out so many times then you see THIS

It's not, but COULD BE a true story:
Tokyo 2012, December 17, 8:35 AM, Ministry of Education:
"We have to do something about the bullying in schools, it's out of control, any ideas?"
"The punishments and sanctions have been useless"
    "And a song against bullying?"
"As if we hadn't preached enough with campaigns over the years"
"Yeah, but what if we entrust it to Babymetal?"
Babymetal World Tour 2023, after 10 years of concerts around the world, the public at each concert still asks them to sing the song against bullying "Ijime, Dame, Zettai". 😇

4 no Uta, Four in Chinese is Sì (shē). In Japanese, Shi translates to "death". Japanese use Chinese, Japanese, and English numbers systems somewhat interchangeably. The number 4 in Japanese is yon, shi is also used, but not frequently since it also means death.
I've heard the avoidance of shi is so severe that buildings will not have a 4th floor. They will number the floors 1, 2, 3, 5...

At 0:54 her silhouette shows number 4. Subtle, but so very typical BM choreo.
At 10:42 Su looks like a mayfly, or a Tiszavirag, against the river. Again, a very subtle imagery.

  • @smashstuff86

The superstition is not about the actual number 4, it is the word "shi" that sounds similar to the Japanese word for death. They have another word for 4, which is "yon."

I would say a waste. Sonisphere is just iconic because it was they're big intro to westerners. It definitely something to watch, but I'd say it better to watch the whole performance. For a reaction to the song this one is good too.

    • @Grahlt
      @Grahlt Рік тому +1

Sonisphere had special importance because it was their first show in the west, but this performance is good too. And this one is interesting because they wear white. Both are worth watching if you like Babymetal. One thing I like a lot about the Sonisphere IDZ is that it's in the day and the Kami band is right there on the stage with them, so you can see the band, which isn't always the case, especially nowadays. I'm kinda glad I'll be seeing them at a smaller venue in October in the US, it's only about 7000-9000 people depending on how they configure the place for the show, so the stage is probably too small to hide the Kami band anywhere.
