The designer knocked it out the park.
Looks like a great shoe! Also, I should buy that hat of yours. Very cool and fun. Also also, I CANNOT wait for your new album to drop! Cheers
The growth of the huge stack shoes has done a job on people thinking shoes like the rebel are "low" stack and cannot go the distance. If we did just fine back in the Kinvara then this shoe has plenty of protection for the miles. Plus the number of reviews I see of this shoe, everyone is calling it minimal or low stack. There is so much midsole compared to shoes like the Kinvara. It's also the "super"shoes that have people thinking those are the only shoes for marathons. I've really enjoyed all the rebels for the half marathon (I don't do marathons). This one is looking great and I cannot wait to run in it.
It’s not that you can’t do well in these shoes (or other similar-stack options) at long distances, it’s just likely that people will do significantly better in supershoes, all else equal. I’d say a majority of people watching / reading shoe reviews would be willing to fork out an extra $100 to shave 5% off their Marathon time by getting a racing shoe.
I appreciate the comment on the Kinvaras as I’ve worn multiple generations, but found the latest version 14 to have too tight a toebox. Found the MB Rebel 4s by chance this week and they are a dream. If the high end plated version are even better, sign me up!
africans run with thin rubber, so this is more than sufficient.
looking forward to trying it
Had this shoe for a week and i absolutely love it. Just wish i woudlve done a. Half size up but thats a pretty minor issue for me specifically
Are you also reviewing the new New Balance Fuelcell Venym? It looks like the rebel, has the same midsole and is marketet as the Rebel foe the trails...
The top looks more yellow than green ?Maybe it’s the camera or lighting ?
Good review, myself zero interest in NB running shoes, their foams are way to soft, sinking mushy for my liking
I gotta stick with my Xeros.
This is NOT a lower stack shoe. .
It is lower stack compared to all other top of the line running shoes. No need to take it as a bad thing but it is for sure low stack.
If this is lower stack, what is normal stack, what is high stack, and what is max stack? What would you call a 30mm stack? 25mm? 20mm, like for example the altra superior?
@@2013TombRaider Just for comparison - Runningwarehouse puts the label "low stack height" at 19-23 mm.
Supercomp v4.? Ok...
I’m leaning towards grabbing a pair. Also, A Ginger review will always be one of my favorite reviews…love all the work you do for all your videos!
Got my pair in a couple days ago. This is my first pair of NB after using Hoka and Nike. I am impressed. It's a fast, peppy, stable ride. Not quite as plush and squishy as my previous daily trainers. But they feel good so far. Can ramp up the tempo in these.
Hi what shoes were you using b4 I’m kind of disappointed in these rebel v4
I’ve been running in my v4s! Had a great workout with hill repeats the other evening and they feel really fun for the faster efforts. Love this shoe!
You had me at vanderpump rules
When the first Rebel came out, you and others expressed doubt about its durability. I got a pair, felt amazing running in them, and found them to be pretty durable, though I never had shoes that got dirty as fast & bad as them. So when I saw them on sale, I got a few m ore pairs, and I think I still have a couple of unboxed ones. I run on intervals and tempo sessions roads once or twice a week, and though not tall, I am overweight, but the durability hasn't really been an issue. The cushion doesn't offer much stability, though, and when I took them on a long training run (22k), the next day I had strong foot pain from little muscle that are not used to being so activated. Others feet might be fine, but mine weren't ready.
So all of this to say that perhaps the durability concern might not be an issue with this v.4, but of course time will tell, it is a different version. Next time I'm in the market, I will likely get whatever iteration of the Rebel that's on sale at the moment.
Strange that nowadays 30 mm/24 mm stack height is considered to have ground feel and is less protection... we have come a long way from "Born to run" indeed. The OG Kinvara for perspective was 22 mm/18 mm.. THAT is ground feel.
After 3 months, these KILL the bottom of my feet. Cant figure out why. Makes me so sad because they look so cool
How would you compare to the endrophin speed 4?
They really aren’t comparable imo
Agree they’re totally different animals. You should try them both as they’re both good shoes but not only fit differently, but also feel very different running.
I've loved the Rebel V3 for the last couple of marathon training blocks, such a fast and fun shoe! Great review and glad to hear V4 is much of the same, the V4 design looks great too. The Rebel & SC Elite combo has been great and fun to lace up in.
With the V3 on sale right now for only $50 each (for two pairs) at Joe's, it's a no-brainer of an alternative to the V4, which is nowhere near 3X better than the V3 and will likely be liquidated this time next yr. I tend to wait for hype to die down and they go on sale, since being late to the party while I enjoy what I own drastically reduces the impact on my bank account. Keeping up with the Jones' (e.g., YT reviewers) is a money pit for those of us who aren't subsidized. Kudos to the relatively few reviewers, e.g., Hes Kicks, for making a point of reporting good deals when they drop.
Enjoying my rebelv4 being used for hill repeats, durability of the grip? for me maybe 100km but I do tear up rubber on the toes, part due to runs in rolling terrain.
SuperBlast gets the call ahead of Rebelv4 for all other sessions, negative drop on rebel(heel crazy soft) helps on the downhill recovery.
Can I ask if you think these will work for not just fast pace or hard runs but for walking and jogging. I was running a lot, but dec I had to have a total knee replacement . I am healing good and trying to get out and get some miles in but having trouble because my nimbus and others have too high a drop. It was recommended to stay under an 8, and actually, I have heard 4 and 5 would help resolve the pain and get me on a better track. What would the cushion be compared to. Great videos as usual
I got a pair yesterday and it really awesome 🎉
How does it compare with other Hokas or Ons? Super Softer?
@@TruTube.1. the run feel not quite soft as hand feel. Responsive rather than squishy
How is this not a long distance shoe? It is not low profile at all. What kind of shoe would do better? I really don't get it.
Maybee, maybee... Reviewer needs to give space for NB SC trainer for Long Distance Run
I've only had one short run in my pair so far, but it was the day after a 14 mile run in the mountains, supposed to be an easy run, was running 6 minute miles without meaning to be, just wanted to run faster, I think its finally a carbonless shoe I could race in
Is it possible to run HM fast in them (~1:15)?
I don’t like carbon shoes, as I’m a heel striker, would it suitable for me?
Hey
Just wondering if I go for the NB SuperCell SuperComp Trainer V2 or these NB Rebel v4
Any thoughts?
That’s what I was looking at too. Heard V2 are more for chill runs and V4s are more for fast runs
Best non-super shoe of 2024, but like all new balance, go at least half a size up… trust me
Echoing that; I had to go up 1/2 size for length despite how wide and roomy the toe box is (and I have narrow feet).
I love running in the big brother to this shoe, the SC Elite v.4, and looking forward to getting the Rebel v.4. I have had all the versions of each shoe, a few I didn't love, but this one looks like a winner. I am a big fan of NB, especially their higher cushioned lightweight shoes.
Is this exclusively for running? I work at a warehouse so im fast walking for 6-8 hours
Not really, its super comfortable and you can fast walk in it.
I didn’t like the Rebel V3 however I will give the V4 a try.
did you go true to size or a half size up?
I don't know what he did but I've heard to go a full size up than your regular size.
Confirming that unless your feet are on the short side of your usual size, you most likely need to go up 1/2 size. They run short even though the toe box is very wide and roomy in general.
Video starts at 2:10
The review I was waiting for. I love my rebel V3 and it’s nice to know I won’t be missing my V3 too much when I upgrade to this one.
Hi folks, for those who have bought these - I'm an 8.5 in Nike, what size should I go with in New Balance?
I’m a narrow footed runner and I’m worried the toe box will be baggy
I have a narrow foot but I get a solid lockdown in the midfoot. The forefoot is very roomy on me but not puckered up bc I have that midfoot locked down. I did have to size up 1/2 size for length in this version. It’s worth trying on in a store but make sure you lace them up right (start from the bottom) and you might find them very comfortable.
Saw the injinji socks and already seemed more trustworthy to watch lol
Certainly interested after Saucony made the Ride 17 bulkier and heavier so now I’m considering other options - Rebel V4 and Mach 6, but the durability of those is what’s holding me back. Keen to see how it holds up.
I mainly use altra running shoes because the toe box is amazing, but i have been reading great reviews about the fuel cell rebel v4. Is there any options for a wider to box? Really want to tey these shoes out.
The durability issue is a bit of a concern. My current pair of V3's is sitting at over 700k or 435 miles. My major like about the V3 is that it's an easy go-to shoe that just holds up really well. I really hope the V4 will bring much of the same.
Sounds like the this shoe is more for track works outs and up to half marathons and the Elite is for longer.
These are awesome, have done a few ~6 milers and a 15m run and worked well for that. My legs felt better after the 15 than in any shoes I have worn in years. Has an old school feeling that cushions you without being overly responsive so it can handle a wide range of paces without beating you up if you want to take it easy. Stack height is relative; these would be considered high 4-5 years ago. Haven't been excited about a NB shoe since the original Zante (The new design helps).
How's the heel tab in those? I ran in NB for years and loved their shoes. Then they started messing with heel tab height which resulted in blisters and an achilles tendinopathy. Tab height doesn't look awful in the video. How does it actually wear?
How can i stop having blister from this shoes.its rubbing back of my foot
Watching you roll back onto your heel in that shoe.... The midsole just wanted to fold/collapse at that little ridge where the orange stripe is...
If we compare it with Invincible 3 which one is good.
I got mine yesterday. Ran 5 miles in them today and I really like them!!! And they look cool. My 9 year old son wants his own pair.
My go to road shoe is the Rebel. Love the snap (not a fan of carbon plates personally so this is perfect).
Thank you for the review
v4 arrived in the mail today. Looking forward to first run after 4x pairs of v3
New Balance has been off to a great year with their new shoes
Is any flat footer here and tried these? Ima flat footer and new to running and dunno what I should buy
Try the 1080v13. I am also a flat footer.
I wear a 10.5 what size should I buy in pair of New Balance Rebels
11 in this version most likely
Found mine way too soft
NB on 🔝
Eagerly awaiting mine in the blue colour way ;)
330th Vote UP!
Been running for years. Never had a shoe this light (212 oz, I think). Feels great. I noticed a big difference with hills, especially steep ones. Will most likely get a second pair!
212oz?
@@jeroen1989 OOPS.....grams!! LOL
@@scottrobertson8380 I was already wondering about the size of your calves carrying all that weight ;)
Rebel v4 or boston 12? Im a fairly new runner training for my 1st half marathon in 3 months
They’re so different I suggest you try both on somewhere if possible. Boston 12 is a lot heavier but your body will tell you which one works for your feet and biomechanics. No one else can tell you that.
It’s 2 months later and I’m curious what shoe you decided on and how it worked for you.
Nice review
Could you use this as a daily trainer?
That’s its intended use according to most reviews and my use-case plan for it. It feels comfortable at all paces so far.
This might be just what I'm looking for to do afternoon 5ks now that the weather is improving.
Definitely feels like a more modern version of early an early Kinvara (5-6 were my favorites). More cushion that Rebel v3 and softer/more accommodating than the Rincon I’ve been using. Still hard to believe lightweight trainers are $140 these days.
Why would it go on sale soon? It just came out 😅
Supercritical ???
No sir !!!!
It's a PEBA/EVA blend....
Supercritical refers to the process of how the foam is formed (eg. Nitrogen infused), not the material it's made from. So, just because a midsole is PEBA/EVA blend, doesn't mean it can't also be supercritical. The new mach 6 from Hoka, for example, uses supercritical EVA
I know what supercritical foam is thank you and in that case that foam is not nitrogen infused so not supercritical....@@DonalG45
