Got my girl pregnant at 17, I was 18, we didn’t have anything, no job, no money, no plan, but we loved the hell out of each other. We were both poor kids, never had much and didn’t have one of those family names you need to succeed in a small town. But we had each other and that was good enough. 10 years later were married, we have 3 kids now, and a dog.. we both have great careers... a house on some land and we just bought her granddads farm back... From very humbled beginnings, Weber stuck it out, thru thick and thin, and today my love for her is more than it’s ever been. This song hits me hard, because it’s so true. Just felt like sharing my life story. True love does exist. It’s not always pretty, but it’s always worth it.
The love of my life and I had a baby at 17 Got married 30 years ago this month. We lived in a tiny apartment And had nothing. But oh our dreams. Between his joining the army and me having to go on bedrest..The baby came ..and soon divorce too.. I will always love him..
Just sang your comment while playing my guitar, used but we had each other that was good enough as the chorus.... probably could be a number one....great comment
My wife and I started out sleeping on a blanket under the stars until the weather got cold then we slept in her explorer on a air mattress . We got married and were blessed with our daughter . Moved into a income based apartment. I worked full time while she went to school for her RN degree. She graduated we moved to another apartment . Then to a nicer apartment . Then we bought our first home and we’re doing pretty good . I went to school and along the way we were blessed with our son . I graduated with my RN degree. We started with nothing but love and now we have built an amazing life . It’s hard but very doable . Love and hard work and God is all you need . Doesn’t matter where you start .
This song reminds me of my parents so much. It gets me every time at the “Baby there ain’t no shame in bein poor.” My parents worked hard to make things better than they were for them growing up. I make decent money but I’m a working man. I weld and hang iron. I like what I do and it provides a good living for my family. We aren’t rich but we do ok. Our society looks down on working people. I’m proud to be one of them.
Hold your head you. Your family is proud of you I know. Blue collars are what gives them that look down on you the life they have. They are just so stupid they don't even know it :)
We need you man. The trades are so solid. I'd be happy if I had children and they went into the trades. Also, you aren't defined, limited or forced to behave a certain way based on what others expect of you.... blue collar white collar we both gotta work for our money. You set your own value. Know your worth and really believe it brother because nobody is going to give you more than what you ask for when push comes to shove.... no matter how much you've earned it.
I was married and pregnant at 19. Head over heels for the only man I ever knew. Ten years, four kids later...we dont have much. But the love yall....there is so much love. I feel so blessed to be married to a man that is everything this song describes and more. The world and all its riches dont mean nothing. I just need God and my family. This song stops me in my tracks every time and makes me realize how incredibly blessed I am. I only thought I loved him when we were younger. I love him more today then I ever knew I could...
Maxed out my college card to to rent a hotel room for our honeymoon. After the wedding her parents didn't come to, first place we stayed was a twin bed in my friend's garage. 15 years, 5 kids on earth, 2 in heaven and a lot of "don't know how we're gona make it this month but God always shows up." Now we have more than enough to give away. By God's grace, we get to be trees that provide shade for others. Work like everything depends on you, pray like everything depends on God...she's still hot as hell by the way 😉
One of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Literally brings tears to my eyes. My parents lived in a pink and white dilapidated trailer that almost burned down one day because of a faulty kerosene heater. Forty years later I am very successful because of everything they did for me and my brothers. RIP Dad, I think of that pink and white trailer often and all the sacrifices you made for us.
Hey timothy...!🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🌻🌻🌻read your words on this beautiful song....well said my friend...... thankful for whiskey myers songwriting and deep soul singing and being!!!🌻🎼🎼🎼🎼🌷🌷🌺❤️❤️❤️❤️🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
I can't get over this song. Hits me so hard. Grew up dirt poor in Sweden and worked my way to a good life and this song just remind me about the core values in life
“I got dreams, what can I say... sometimes life gets in the way” When you marry young, start having kids, living in a trailer, and working everyday to keep your family fed and clothed with one income and no support or free loading, then you can understand the meaning
This song speaks to millions of people throughout the world, because for us, the ones it's touched, we've all gone through what Whiskey Myers sing about in this song. Guys, if ever there was a song for the working man, you just nailed it!
Richard Williams that's it! You wrote the words I had in mind, I living in Grenoble, France, and that song speaks to me a lot, so far from Texas and south of US! Cheers guy!
nothing wrong with the less fortunate we mite not of had Everything we Wanted but for the most part we had what we Needed!!! I am very proud of the way I was raised wouldn't have it any other way!!! ~LOVE, PRAYER, STRENGTH, FAITH, FAMILY, WISDOM,HOPE, & MOST IMPORTANTLY OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, THE MAN WHO AT THIS VERY MOMENT IS GIVING U YOUR EACH BREATHE!!! Feel this way often during Christmas time, not being able to give your kids everything you wished you could. Love the line “ain’t no shame in being poor”
This song reminds me of my parents and my childhood… I grew up in a trailer and my parents worked so hard to make sure I never felt or was called “trailer trash”…. They still live in the very same home and now it’s my turn to work to try and get them out of it
Ron Anglin I wasn't raised poor but when the wife & I first started out at 18 we were dirt poor. We had nothing for over a decade because we had nothing but highschool diplomas and the shitty jobs that accompany those with no skills/trade. On a sidenote, thank you for your service.
Ron, unless you personally know "Big Jim", you really should word your comment differently. You sound like a jerk with your "whaat your group calls", "I feel comfortable saying these men have and you sir have not". You know Mr. Ron, I'm sure there are people out there that believe your description of how you grew up poor, well, it doesn't sound all that poor to them. Have a good day sir, and thank you for your service.

This song means so much to me. I raised my girls in a trailer with no electricity and no doors. They are now 25 and 23 and we have a beautiful home. I can provide them something I never could before but this song touches my soul. Thank you so much for singing it.
Straight to the heart. Even for those who never lived in a trailer, if you know the struggle of trying to scratch out a living especially as a young family.... this song says it all.
If you stumbled in to the music of Whisky Myers like I did a year or two ago. I recommend you check out more of their music. These guys are a talented group that play a southern rock that combines rock and country like no other band. If you listen to music often and find yo get inspired, motivated, fired up, rocked out, etc. Look no further Some how this band covers all the bases with their music.
I raised my two girls in a trailer with holes in the floor and no doors. No electricity in the winter when my newborn was born. I had an allowance every week for diapers, formula and groceries of $40 in 2000. I left him finally in 2008 now we have a beautiful home in Kingwood. 3000 ft.² and four bedrooms. But I wish things were simpler like they were back in the day. This song means so much to me because I know what it is like to struggle. And I know it is like to succeed and I realize now that it’s not about how much you have it’s about how much love you have.
One of the best contemporary bands out there. I’m an early Gen X’er and grew up with the values of hard work, responsibility, god and country and have tried my best to live up to them. In my mid 50’s now and know I am entering the stretch run of my life. Lived in a trailer, a big house and a condo. Was a janitor, a mason, factory worker, cop, psychologist, business owner and union official. Lost my sister, mother, grandparents and some friends. Raised my sisters kid when she passed early on. Worked from age 11...it’s all I know. Just has my first child at age 52 and hoping I’ll be around long enough to teach him something. This song as well as Outfit by The Drive By Truckers epitomizes the values that I was raised with. My life did not turn out in anyway I imagined it would but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.
Thank you For this song I I'm 44 I got married at 19 worked in the mill my whole life I got 6 kids double shift took care of my family got my trailer at 21 was so happy then not having shit or window to throw it out of thank you again for this song!!!!!
P.S. and to all you women out there that love their man for richer or poor better or worse thru it all thank god for you ladies holding it down because alot of us didnt get that lucky hard to be there for your spouse during the everyday struggles much less lover and mother ❤👏
Probably my very favourite song of all time. Yeah, I know a massive line to write. But it's so me. I ain't the sharpest tool in the box, I know that. But my family never went hungry, never went without a shirt on their back.... even if some of them were darned. Love and family will ALWAYS get us through the hard times. Thank you Cody and the guys of WM. I KNOW I'm not alone.
I stumbled up on this song, listening to their albums. Just, wow. I had to stop my car and listen again, with tears flowing. Lyrics blew me away. Such beautifully written narrative, touching literally & figuratively, what's the most important in life. Deeply moving, humbling text. Absolutely a brightest, shining diamond amongst their whole song list! Greetings from the Netherlands.
My hands are numb and my body's sore From gettin by and wantin more... I felt them lyrics in my soul. I'll just keep turning wrenches and burnin welding rod. No rest for the wicked. 🤘🤪
Every time I hear this song I am reminded of one of my best friends and one hell of a good person who took his life on mothers day of 2018. He was an Army veteran of OIF with undiagnosed PTSD. No outward signs of suicide or even depression. Had gotten his law degree a few years prior and doing great. His wife played this song at his funeral since it was their song. Make sure to love those closest to you and take care of one another. Look out for each other.
Two young kids and diamond ring Little white church south of Palestine Baby bump and pretty bouquet Yeah, I went to work the very next day Punching that clock working that line Double shifts and over time My hands are numb and body's sore Getting by and wanting more So many dreams that I ain't showing So many lives that I can't live Oh, the years just keep on rolling And I wish I had so much more to give Yeah, times get tough but love is strong Here in this trailer that we call home She got one on her hip and one on the way Grocery list and bills to pay Momma by day and school at night I tried so hard to get it right I got dreams. What can I say? Sometimes life gets in the way Well, getting by and wanting more Baby, there ain't no shame in being poor Yeah, times get tough but love is strong Here in this trailer that we call home Yeah, times get tough but we carry on Here in this trailer that we call home Here in this trailer that we call home Here in this trailer that we call home Songwriters: Cody Cannon / Darrell Scott
Sad part is the writer isn't the artist and the writer all of above not poor. If only a poor man can write for an artist and have a peice of the pie. I know I'm a great writer if I only could have a chance to be off the bench.
Grew up in a little pink and white trailer in lavergne Tn . My grandparents didn’t have much. But I remember everything at 5 years old Me and my brother.
the best fucking band ever. the guys are so cool. staying after most shows signing autograhs till everybody lives. we the public are so glad these guys formed this band.
Can’t get enough of this one. Finally got an opportunity to see my favorite new band in August of this year at the WV State Fair. They delivered on a grand scale. This song says things that all of us have lived and struggled with. Life can get just to damn busy sometimes. Fortunately we have artists who can pen these moments of life that are precious on paper and give us a masterpiece such as this. Much love to Whiskey Meyers . Love your music and band. Your acoustic versions are masterpieces. I’m glad music has returned to its former glory of the classics. You guys are laying down tracks that will stand the test of time for sure. Your new favorite fan forever. Keep em coming
Cody’s voice is way more intense live than on the album version. I hope they release a live version. My wife was finding the album a bit commercial sounding. Last week I saw them on stage and their performance blew off my socks. So I told her to listen to this video and she agreed his live version carries way more emotional weight and nuances.
I stumbled onto this group a few months ago. Sampled them on youtube and ending up buying the firewater and mud records. I absolutely love this groups authenticity, musicianship, and writing ability. I can't wait to see this group of guys make it big one day because they do it right. Genuine music from the heart. The popular country musicians that dominate the radio hear songs like this one and are jealous they can't write like this.
I love all your music I was in prison when I first heard you my motorcycle teacher turned me on to your music been listening to you since thanks for the piece of mind you gave me during that time
Funny thing for some of it it takes jail or prison that’s where Jesus found me I’ve been clean and sober ever cents now we got a job I got a roof and nobody in prison we got Jesus and we got southern rock and roll
Just found this song about 5 years too late gives me the push I need to raise my 2 daughters and keep this girlfriend who doesn’t have to love them but does 😁
This song hits home hard with me ...... 19 and married with a kid on the way it was a challenge making in them piney woods of East Texas .. i had a job where I was gone a lot missing a lot more spent 4 years making it until we made the move to west texas but yeah very touching song like almost all the other songs these guys have .....
"Yeah i tried so hard to get it right..Ive got dreams..what can i say, sometimes life gets in the way, were getting by and wanting more..but baby there aint no shame in being poor" best lines ever in a song... period

Punching that clock working that line
Double shifts and over time
My hands are numb and body's sore
Getting by and wanting more
So many dreams that I ain't showing
So many lives that I can't live
Oh, the years just keep on rolling
And I wish I had so much more to give
Yeah, times get tough but love is strong
Here in this trailer that we call home
She got one on her hip and one on the way
Grocery list and bills to pay
Momma by day and school at night
I tried so hard to get it right
I got dreams. What can I say?
Sometimes life gets in the way
Well, getting by and wanting more
Baby, there ain't no shame in being poor
Yeah, times get tough but love is strong
Here in this trailer that we call home
Yeah, times get tough but we carry on
Here in this trailer that we call home
Here in this trailer that we call home
Here in this trailer that we call home
Songwriters: Cody Cannon / Darrell Scott
Stunning simply stunning
Thank you.
I did the same.
Sad part is the writer isn't the artist and the writer all of above not poor. If only a poor man can write for an artist and have a peice of the pie. I know I'm a great writer if I only could have a chance to be off the bench.
These guys have been my Saturday morning soundtrack for a decade.
I am crazy about this band and I just discovered them about a year ago I guess better late than never their lyrics are incredibly real
One of the absolute best out there! These guys and Chris Knight are my favorites
Agreed 💯 I just discovered them this month and I can’t stop listening to them.
Coal City WV, Ohio now, hate I missed it!
Great song about a couple of young people doing their best to get by.
Absolutely incredible. Not a lot of music like this anymore...
Sometimes seems like the rain starts when you go outside, again and again...Rain ain’t so bad.
out of all the songs an lyrics thought of how could someone still come up with a song this perfect
Sure needed a pick me up tonight... Just feel down.. And this real music sometimes just does the trick.. Great group guys.
Stay strong
Dread vs dad's and am few love ke the lr ew re
Yessir, we may not have it all together.. but together, we have it all!
Love that quote
Cody’s voice is way more intense live than on the album version. I hope they release a live version.
My wife was finding the album a bit commercial sounding. Last week I saw them on stage and their performance blew off my socks. So I told her to listen to this video and she agreed his live version carries way more emotional weight and nuances.
Seen them at Billy Bobs with tickets I won. To this day still the greatest show I’ve seen!!!!
Tears escaped my eyes on this one, man.
Damn right......except for Chris Stapleton there ain't shit out there....

Just found this song about 5 years too late gives me the push I need to raise my 2 daughters and keep this girlfriend who doesn’t have to love them but does 😁

Great Lyrics by one of the best Musicians alive today 👍
My neighbor adrian pounders says he used to play drums for you guys. Idk but that song makes me cry. LOVE your ability to put so much and evoke so much emotion with your music. Wat music is supposed to do. Fan for life!!
