June 12, 1973...Grand Funk records this masterpiece. By Summer of '74 it would be their first #1 hit single in the U.S. Fell in love with Mark Farner when I was 14 in 74.
Every teen loves the music that's live around them.... But the live music of my teen years 1969-1975.... I wouldn't trade that for anyone else's "teen" years... It was generationally special, meaning it's appreciated with enthusiasm by generations that followed. A true Golden Age.
@plumerian66 - You'd be surprised to hear about those who were born in or after the 1980s and their musical preferences, a lot of whom prefer 1970s and 1980s Rock n' Roll.
That's what you call putting your soul in the music! Man that energy is insane! I'd personally give $1000 bucks if a group like this ever played live at my house for my birthday.
This is one badass group that should have been in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame years and years ago I grew up listening to them they were way ahead of their time pure blood and guts rock and roll you can't beat it

This is THE American rock anthem without a doubt. The riff by itself is one of the modt unique and unmistakeable riffs of all time just like "Smoke On The Water" & "Mississippi Queen." This was the Golden Age of Rock (1969-1974) and no period could match it for the number of power bands, music composition, or quality.
I am not from this planet and I love their sound! America is a huge continent. These guys made Central and South America scream with bravado and delight. Music has no boundaries. Closer to home is a masterpiece!
Yes it is....ya gotta learn to auto pilot your drum parts and get back on the mic after every fill. If ya try to think too much while doing it...the band is GONE and you're left in their slipstream wake turbulence! LOL!
My buddies and I loved GFR . When us muso's got together American band was the song we will start with . We did most of GFR'S song's , it was great fun . 🔜✝👍 KZN South Africa 🇿🇦☝😁👀👏🙋💪😁🇿🇦

Kids who did not grow up in the '70s...well, you have to pity them. That, along with the '60s, was the best decade for music. They should do some classic rock history, get a nice stereo system with speakers that'll rattle the windows and see how it was. Man, I'm glad I grew up before 1980 happened.
A lot of great bands came out of the 70's. This is just one of them. BTO, being another, The Doobie Brothers, and Nazareth just to name a few. The 70's was a great time to grow up in.

One of the greatest song of rock'n'roll ever, it's hard to believe that a very close friend of mine and myself almost got expelled from school in communist Cuba for just listening to it, weird but true.
The Rock and Roll of the '70's we're good times. Great time to be a teenager. Maybe every decade is a good time to be a teenager, unless there is a draft. Honor our veterans. Without them, we have nothing in this U.S.A.
My first concert was Mark Don & Mel at Pirates World amusement park Dainia Florida 1973. When they played Footstompin Music i knew life for me would never be the same again. I was badly hooked on this band at only 10 years old! Farner slid across the stage on his knees, hair swirling around and whaling on his guitar and it was officially the coolest thing i ever saw. Today im still a #1 fan. Love you guys!!
mark farner is exc.the facial expressions show how dedicated he is into his craft. the whole band is exc. i was in high school 68-72 and gfr was of my favs. i'm crying right down. i'm 59 and this takes me back to a great time in my life.

I don't care what anyone says the 70's was the best generation when it came to rock and roll. The music these days sux doesn't come close.
Facts!!!
I thank the Lord, that my childhood was in the 60's and 70's. It was such a great time. A freedom that is hard to put into a few words. Yes very well said! Totally with you!
The years were righteous…too bad gfr WASN’T
Born in 61'!!
It is the perfect rock song, nothing comes close! I remember when Grand Funk ruled the airwaves. They were something.
The only good thing about being old is that i was around for some really great music back in the day. My funeral is going to be a rock festival.
I have a feeling we are in the same generation. The late '60's through the '70's had the best music.
smoothlyez
I'm cracking up at your last sentence. (Funeral Rock Festival). See ya ☝there lol.
I love you ♥️

Sportatorium ROCKED!
No lip synch. No autotune. No dancers all over the stage. THIS is why I'm a rocker!!
💯 I'll have to try this on my bass. Man, the 1970s rocked! IMO and many others it was the best decade for guitar ROCK!
Younger generation gets mad as hell when us older folks say this, it’s hilarious…
Guy with the guitar is trying to dance , best part of this band was the drummer
昔は皆同じだよ
🤮🤮🤮
One of the few bands that sounded better live than in the studio.
AND THAT'S A NATURAL FACT!
Foghat is like that, too
CCR...

I just feel sorry for people who were born after the 1980s. Long live the 1970s.

I was born in 75 but Ididnt get to listen to great bands until I was in my late teens
@plumerian66 - You'd be surprised to hear about those who were born in or after the 1980s and their musical preferences, a lot of whom prefer 1970s and 1980s Rock n' Roll.
As someone born in the late 90s, it's hard to believe there has been pratically no good music made in my lifetime.
I was born in 1971 and never heard of this group before
Don Brewer is such a talented Percussionist. Anyone that can drum and sing and keep it rocking is just the ...man !!
Increíble!
Too bad he's a Dick and has withheld a true GFR reunion all these years !!!!
He has just the right amount of cowbell.
Karen Carpenter drummed most of the Carpenters shows AND sang an impeccable lead. Was she “the man”?!!
これが😜
Now that is rock and roll!!🤘
+sun johnson amen brother!!
You just got ran the fuck over by the Grand Funk Railroad!!
That's what you call putting your soul in the music! Man that energy is insane! I'd personally give $1000 bucks if a group like this ever played live at my house for my birthday.
A whole 1,000.00 ? maybe 100 x that.
I’d pay a thousand to have never heard them!!

Young people today have no idea just how huge they were in the early 1970s.
That's why the Hall of Lame is a joke. Carole King isn't in either. Go figure.
They’re gods in the rock & roll hall of shame
Three young dudes went into a garage and........when they came out the world was a better place.
Best comment i ever heard
4 dudes, the keyboardist never gets recognition 😂
Damnit....I never get tired of this. And I seen them in concert during the 70s and I'm still watching and listening to this classic rock spectacle. Long live GFR 🎸 April 2024

Without Mark Farner there is NO Real Grand Frunk Railroad !!!!
That’s a shame
Don Brewer:Writer, singer, drummer, white afro.A King amongst men.
Truly the best Era of Music for me...
I was at Shea in 71 and it was one of the best concert attended
Think the only groups to fill Shea in the 70's where this group and Jethro Tull in later 70's
What a powerful voice.. while drumming no less. That's gotta be hard to do.
It is, I did it for many years.
Only Karen Carpenter was mellower. Queen of the mellow drummer lead singers....
Real !music!!👏👏👏👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Let's not forget Gil Moore from Triumph....
Yes it is....ya gotta learn to auto pilot your drum parts and get back on the mic after every fill. If ya try to think too much while doing it...the band is GONE and you're left in their slipstream wake turbulence! LOL!

Almost?….meh
I'm always amazed this song is played with a guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums, because it sounds DOUBLY LOUDER.
Twice as bad?!!
