V12 Parked 18 Years! - Will It Run?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 гру 2023
- 18 years ago this V12 Jaguar XJS was parked due to a leaking expansion tank. After sitting all these years will it run? What will it take to get this V12 to start and run again?

That poor car needs all the improvements removed: Starfish alloys, correct Cibie headlights and original fruit machine instruments.
Cool stuff. Also brought back memories from childhood back in the 70s when it was normal for cars not to start.
I’ve got that beat, I’ve got a 86 XJS that hasn’t been started since 2002. My mother parked it in the garage in 1999 and started it a couple times a year until end of 02. I’m processing it now to start it up.
Adam. As soon as l saw it l could see it was a jewel that just needed dusting off ! What a cracking car ! I like the wheels .... the quad headlamps, they give it it's signature ..... the new custodian will be thrilled with this V12 purrrrfect cat !!! Thanks Adam .
Yes I think he'll enjoy it a lot.
It needs the fuel hoses doing 😉 Then back to stock wheels and UK spec headlamps - those twin lamps ruin the XJS
Well done. I've been a subscriber for years and have use the knowledge gained from your videos and insight to keep my old xjs running. I have since sold the last of my xjs's, but still enjoy watching your process of problem solving. While I do find the particular repair videos super helpful, I enjoy watching the "will it run" and resurrection style videos. Keep up the great work. -cheers
Lovely XJ-S. However, I prefer the original wheels and UK headlights. Stunning condition, a credit to the owner.
my favorite jag . great video
ADAM, THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE OF THESE ,GRAND VEHICLES....SHOUTING OUT FROM LONGISLAND N.Y.
Glad you like them!
Hi Adam, I test drove a silver '86 XJS v12 some years back. Kind of wish it could have worked out. Thanks for the great videos!
looks good
What a lovely car 😮
Superb looking car! Have a 95 in a similar color.
Great work Adam, I do hope this is the first of a series on this car? Those wheels will certainly be a lot easier to clean than the originals! Happy Christmas to you and yours. TonyS
It may be a series but I am not quite sure yet. Everything that it needs I have shown on the channel before so I don't want to repeat myself too much.
Great video, Adam. My '88 makes the same, annoying buzzing sound, so if you find the problem, please let us know. The buzzing sound sounds like the seat belt warning that buzzes until they are fastened. I don't recall what made me come to that conclusion, but I do know that there was Technical Bulletin (76-91) for '88 and '89 XJS, and an Administration Bulletin (3-120) for '88 and '89 XJS addressing seat belt fault diagnoses. I'm looking forward to your conclusion. Keep doin' what you do!
Thanks, will do!
Hi Alex, great vid. Well thought out approach.
I think I would have tried a bit of silicone oil
down the plug holes first,
just to be safe.
But she fired up ok.
Looks like a long job ahead.
Cleaning out coolant system.
Looking forward to next video.
Great job! I like the instrument cluster.
Thanks!
I truly enjoyed this video . Reason I have one myself that is a 1990 XJS v12 but hardtop . I have not started it yet but replacing all hoses and new water pump , starter , new fuel pump , rebuilding fuel injectors . I already drained fuel tank , new fuel pump and filter . Pulled the plugs and filled with Mystery oil and put plugs in to let set before turning crank by hand . I hope to see more of this cars progress .
Thanks for the video. I have a 96 XJS V12 convertible in British racing green and tan interior. I bought it new and put about 40K miles on it. Then I put it in storage while building a new house and monster garage. Sadly, when I went to get it out of storage it would fire right up but only go about 5 MPH. So I trailered it home and put it in the heated and AC garage and it’s been sitting there for 7 years. Will no longer start but you gave me a lot of good ideas when I go to deal with it…..hopefully soon. I am not much of a mechanic but can’t find anyone to work on a Jag in my rural area and the next decent sized town is about 100 miles away (which is why it has been sitting). You’ve given me the confidence to take the job on. I guess I can’t really hurt it at this point. Right now, it is a beautiful piece of steel to admire in the garage but no good for anything else.
What state? Sounds like a nice example, recent issue aside.
Nice. Another great V12 on it's way back to life.
Indeed it is!
I Adam quite a gem of a XJS and your speciality as well mine is still at the shop waiting on na few more parts I have spent $6,198 so far should be really good when she is finished looking forward to the next video Regards Andy Allen.
At least the cat on the roof kept the mice away ……
Simply stunning what a nice car
Yay, it's alive!
And the Rims look good too
More contemporary
There is a lot of work ahead but
Well worth it now. I have a
1990 xjs I took out all
The teves braking junk
and converted back to
The 80s system not hard at all
Used an adjustable perportioning
Valve, now the brakes are solid one
Less headake since the teves when it
Fails the the pedal will go to
The floor and that is dangerous.
Iam giving you and Idea for a new
Video.
A sries of cautious, methodical steps lead to a good result..
Tyres for original starfish alloys are expensive. I put xj12 lattice alloys on mine and they improve handing, but they lower car so be careful over speed bumps
More XJS content!!!
Know a friend who bought a barn kept ‘83 HE XJS Coupe that hasn’t run since 2006, and if this would be a series on things to watch out for and change, how to, I’m sure there’re a lot of people out there finding and buying alright XJS’s that were barn kept for decades. Not everyone is a master classic Jag mechanic and would be familiar with Jag’s many characteristics!
PLEASEEE Adam!!
It may be a series, I haven't made my mind up yet. I have shown all the things on the channel before so I don't want to repeat myself too much.
I hope that you had the car in Neutral and a few fire extinguishers in easy reach.
Really nice looking example. Wheels look great btw. All this needs is euro spec bumpers, maybe ditch the exhaust tips too. Regarding that cluster, there was(might still be available)a company offering that “upgrade” for xjs.
Yes I did some research afterwards and found some old forum posts of people who hade done the "upgrade" years ago.
Running or not, that's a beautiful vehicle.
Yes it is
Fantastic! The owner seems to have purchased a very nice example indeed. Any information you can share about those wheels would be much appreciated. Definitely like them.
I'll see if I can find out some information about them
i think the first procedure i would perform would be a buzzerectomy.
probably a few stuck valves came unstuck after sitting in the oil forced through the head and valvetrain overnight. fuel in clogged injector may have helped too.
lesson learned? give an otherwise engine in good condition, that's been sitting for years, a good workout and if it doesn't start let it sit for a while.
It will be removed very soon. Really annoying sound
If you cut the wire to the buzzer the car sounds much better !
Great video! Those wheels 🤮
Sometimes old fuel will harden on the injectors like varnish.fresh fuel will melt it overnight. Good thinking.
Yes exactly. Sometimes the only thing that can clean old fuel off is new fuel
@@LivingWithAClassicHair of the dog ! 😊
I'd be interested to know how you can confirm one side is running on 11 just by touching the manifold.I had assumed this would be difficult to detect on a V12.
How do you determine this?
Many thanks.
I work on them everyday so you get used to it. When they are on all cylinders on one side it’s totally smooth. When you’re down a cylinder or more you’ll feel a rhythm. Rhythm changes depending on which cylinders are down. After I reved it I could feel that it was on 12 most of the time but intermittently missing on one cylinder.
What about the Rover P6 in the background?
Check previous videos from the spring and summer. I pulled it out of a barn in March and got it back on the road. Drove her all summer
Hi everyone my name is Manuel and I’m from California. I was wondering where I can get parts for the 89 v12 jaguar???
Looking for the coolant crossover bypass. Can’t seem to find it anywhere 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ any help is appreciated
I use a combination of eBay and RockAuto. Surprisingly, they have many Jag parts.
Thanks a million
Simply Performance in the UK make a new stainless steel crossover pipe.
I spot a tvr griffith
Yes, it will be on the channel in the near future.
@LivingWithAClassic can't wait love your show
👍🇦🇺
like 157 !
can we see the red rover?
You'll find it in previous videos. Last spring I bought it and got it running after sitting in a barn for over 10 years. I drove it all last summer after getting it back on the road.
