Good for you!! Don't be pressured by peers, society, advertising, TV and movies. Good is Good no matter if it's new or old. If you like it, and it makes you feel good and happy, then go for it. Nevermind what anybody else thinks. People would be surprised if I told them what some of my favorite movies, TV shows, and songs are.

"You Bet Your Life" was hosted by Groucho Marx. The "You Bet Your Life" theme was based on the song "Hooray for Captain Spaulding," which came from the Marx Brothers' 1928 Broadway show (and 1930 film) "Animal Crackers." 🙂

Brought back memories of my childhood, with one semi-correction I have to offer: The picture accompanying the "Lassie" theme showed the original cast (Tommy Rettig, Jan Clayton, George Cleveland), while the theme music was that used in the episodes with the third cast (Jon Provost, June Lockhart, Hugh Reilly). To the uninitiated, the second cast had Provost, but with Cloris Leachman and Jon Sheppod (sp?) as the parents.

    • @aspenrebel

I was a little kid in the 50's, living in a small rural town in central Wisconsin. We could only get 1 channel and I think it was independent but mostly showed CBS shows. I wasn't allowed to turn on the TV so I had some handicaps here. Anything on ABC or NBC I never heard of back then, and even with CBS available I could only remember the shows before my bed time! My parents were strict! I remember I LOVE LUCY and the JACK BENNY SHOW. Loved them. I love old fashioned comedy that makes fun of the comedian instead of pointing at scapegoats to make fun of, which seems common nowadays in our harsh world. But with our very childish wit, we used to all watch Superman and called him Pooperman. But a big show was missing: 77 Sunset Strip. I loved that show because it made me think that everyone in Los Angeles was a cool cat! I also grooved to American Bandstand, since I was the youngest and my older brothers and sisters would rock to it each week. My sister had a crush on a guy who danced on the show each week. LOL I absolutely hated Leave it to Beaver. I thought the 2 sons were total morons.

My classmates were HORRIFIED. My band director looked at them blankly and asked them what was the matter. He stated that Make Room for Daddy was a TV show. I said "Z, I remember my mom mentioning that show before." "See!!!! I'm not so crazy after all. Jeez Abby! What am I gonna do when you graduate? You're the only one who knows my references!!!!" At the end of class he actually pulled up one of the episodes on UA-cam to show my classmates that neither of us were crazy.

My Dad bought our first TV in 1952 so that he could watch the Boston Celtics and Willie Mays. My mom parked me in front of the TV during the day while she cleaned house; I still remember the theme from Edge of Night.

I was born in '57. I nailed all but 3. I probably could've gotten all but Playhouse 90 (never watched it), but it made it much harder that more than half weren't the original theme song but only lame studio musician recreations. A lot of those ones I had to really listen to realize what it actually was supposed to be. And I'll bet that's why a lot of people didn't recognize as many as they would have if it had been the actual authentic song from the show. Every authentic theme I knew in the first 2 or 3 notes. What would be really fun is if someone put together one of these using the jingles from those old commercial we used to see over & over & over. Like all those cigarette commercials.... "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should...." or " Parliament...with the filter that's in...recessed in" or "You can take Salem out of the country BUT....You can't take the country out of Sa-lem".

I got nearly half, about the same as I did with the 80s. So for me it's:
    *1960s*
    Almost all of them.
    *1970s*
Well over half, but not as many as the Sixties.
    *1980s*
Seeing as they were my teenage years, you'd think... but no. Maybe half, probably less.
    *1950s*
About the same as the Eighties, so make of it what you will that I did equally well (poorly) with the decade of my teens and the decade before I was born.
