So I took the deep dive, and there's no harm to solder the ground lead of the audio cables to the solder points of the DSP-cover (which you removed in your vid) instead. So you can just leave those tiny resistors alone! But I agree, this mod is definitely worth it! I connected my Behringer SD-3 to it, and the extra fx take it to a whole new level! Thanks @TheKingKorg!!
wow, i was thinking about that should be possible since i got my deepmind years ago!!!!!I HAVE TO DO THIS.!!!i will finaly be able to patch the new june pedal in mono before the effects!!!! Even tho you can emulate(maybe kinda) the juno chorus though the digital fx having a cloned circut is gonna make the instantly more junoish!!! Good job man, cant wait to mod mine!!
I was thinking in the same line; a FX send / return to include an analog chorus in the signal chain. Have you made progress on this, and found out the best place to break the signal chain? I would assume C49/C53 could be eligible
Thank you! I made this mod in my Deepmind 12 (keyboard version) with slight modifications. I soldered the ground cables to the DSP cover as indicated by @Cornughon and I connected the two leads through a switch. When the switch is on, the in turns into mono, and I can even use only one cable - as in the case of the Pro 800. If I turn the switch off, the leads are disconnected, and I have a stereo in. Regarding the placement of the jacks and the switch, I'm drilling three holes in the upper-left corner, where there is only the metallic cover and not a circuit board. I'm not sure if the module version also has this space under.
You should have mentioned, paste flux makes it much easier to do all this work as well as makes it much more difficult to overheat components. And then those circuit traces look to be 0.5-ounce or 1 ounce, easier to accidentally bork.
Nice work! I'm assuming that the FX board was just a drop-in module that had more available input channels than required? Also one note - you say a few times that the DM12 synth engine produces a mono signal. While this is true up until the VCAs, the VCAs themselves are stereo pairs, which allows individual voices to be stereo panned before entering the FX section. A nice neat mod though!
Hi! Looks like a thriller when you solder it! )) Is there any chance on DM12 firmware mods? Something like more than 8 mod matrix working connections. Or maybe some mod to be able to put out FM between oscillators if these are connected somehow. I've seen a video with an interesting mod of fw for Neutron! It makes a third oscillator out of LFO and something else, don't remember... Probably here is the core of STM32 as well.
You can patch the output of the LFO back into the input at the back of the Neutron (via atten 1, as it's louder than both oscs). No need to mod anything.
Very interesting and useful mod! Just a question out of interest, since I'm no expert electrician yet: is there a specific reason to connect the (EDIT:) Ground lead of the audio cable to the 0V side of those resistors instead of any other possible 0V point, like those big soldering joints which connect to the DSP cover?

Top man! I've got a DM6 and a Nord Rack 3 (no FX) that I love layering and this will be the icing on the cake.
Bravo majstore. Pozdrav iz Svedske!!!
This is a blast!. Use ssm2141 and +15v -15v from the deepmind powersupply in order to get balanced inputs
Wow so I can turn my 12d into guitar effects processor.. time to freshen up up my technical skills. Very nice project. Thank you!
Nice! I've been waiting for someone to do this :D
Great work, thanks for doing this video.
genius work !
Awesome! Thank you for sharing. Subbed.
Thanks! I'm all over the place with the content, hopefully there will be more of this kind of stuff.

You should use flux, makes soldering much easier, and you get a better wetting action .
Dude, it's not a soldering tutorial.
How about just removing those tiny resistors and soldering regular resistors to the board. Do you know the values?

I wasn't aware of that. That makes sense and is probably the reason the fx inputs are stereo.
Have you found part of the circuit before filters and envelopes? I'd really like to use external voices with MD12 with these.
