Cortes Campers: Lightest Fiberglass Travel Trailer Ever?
The Cortes Camper 18 foot models are a new entry to the fiberglass travel trailer market, joining Scamp, Casita, Escape, and Bigfoot. But Cortes is bringing new technology to the segment with their upcoming integrated fibreglass frame. That's right, there is no traditional steel or aluminum frame on the new 18 model! The new monocoque design moves the Cortes 18 fibreglass camper into a much lighter weight category, allowing for even smaller tow vehicles. Join us as we walkthrough all the 18 foot models, plus we preview the upcoming 22 and 27 foot models.
Note that as of July 9, the introductory pricing of the Cortes 18 has ended, and the new starting MSRP (not including options & shipping) is $46,830.

    As a 4 decade RV owner I appreciate small lightweight campers👍but unfortunately, my days of paying $40,000 for nothing more than an uncomfortable “1950’s diner” booth dinette and a barely usable wet bath are over☹️

    The reason that RV sales are down, 160,000 for a piece of cheaply made crap that falls apart the first time down the road. I will keep my tent, air mattress, outdoor shower, and bucket potty. Less than 500.00 i can enjoy a month outdoors instead of 500.00 + a month plus fuel, insurance campground fees and maintenance. Then shoddy work to start with. No thank you.

    Totally agree with your reasons for buying it. We bought a used T@B 400 for many of the same reasons as you (just as the pandemic hit DOH!). Our only concern is the tongue weight, as it pushes the upper limit for our vehicle (2016 Kia Sorento V6). One question you may have not seen, and may have answered in a later video, is gas mileage with your Venza.

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix 4 дні тому

      Best average for a trip is 15.4 l/100 km or 15.3 US mpg (secondary highways/lower speeds), worst is around 19.5 l/100 km or 12 US mpg (freeway/headwind/higher speeds). Average on trip from Toronto to Waterton/Banff/Jasper in the Rockies was 16.4 l/100 km or 14.3 US mpg (which includes a fair bit of driving without the trailer). By far and away the worst gas mileage was in Ontario on the Alberta trip, it was much better in the prairies and mountains.

    • @SydBat
      @SydBat 4 дні тому

      @@DayHikerFromTheSix - That sounds about right for us too. As soon as you hit the flat, less gas is used. Hills are the killer for gas mileage. We have been averaging 15 - 17l/100km @100kph because of where we have travelled (Oregon coast, various lakes in Alberta). We have found that going to one of our favourite lakes, which is well into the prairie, takes less gas if we go via the Trans-Canada, as it has less hills than the back roads. Our last trip we were getting about 13l/100km. Still a tough adjustment when your regular highway gas mileage is around 7.5l/100km.

    FYI, you have the tank size incorrectly stated. That’s the size for the 16’ layout with the steel frame. The 17s also had an optional double tank size available which doubled both the fresh and gray tank size but kept the same 16gal black tank. The new 18s have a much different tank size as the tanks are integrated into the mold and are closer to the double tank size, however I forget what that number is off the top of my head. They do list them in their website though. Just wouldn’t want tank size to affect anyone’s desire to purchase these trailers. We own a 17’ with double tanks and love it!

    We are owners of a 2023 17 and absolutely love it... We like the steel frame because we feel there are more options for future upgrades to the frame, such as, if someone wanted to put a Texas Customs type frame like some Casita owners do who want to get way off the beaten path. Anyway, we love ours and highly recommend these if you are in such a market... If you want the 16 or 17 with the steel frame, I would not wait...

But neat very neat i just dont trust all those moving parts and walls.

    Its billed for a family but logically demo with only a single person. Then notice he had to go buy a separate dining tent because at $40,000 it should have come with an add a room instead of chinsey awning. They would nt even expand the comode room or add a simple toilet paper holder to door though there a shower curtain to cover it. Nor do they provide shampoo/soap and toothpaste holder. Also cabinet doors swing down instead of up that causes 2 problems. And like he said it got cold in there ( no surprise camping) because they chinsed on insulating, especially floors and outside storage. in my lance they provided carpet including bath and put dump knifes in heated box. If they provided the add a room, one wouldnt have to tare apart the bed just to eat in the rain. Oh yeah for 40000k you still have to buy a separate dining tent that is often collapsed in rain. Neighbors was wrapped around tree. I will say the awning windows are good as well as now 2 door frig and solid wood cabinets with plenty cubbies. But then where do the bikes go if they took up hitch by spear as didnt even put on luggage rack bars for 40,000k! Although the aening windows are reasonable design, the curtians in an rv are inadequate against the cold drafts that will be encountered even in August. It should have come with snap insulated boat coverings that look even tidier as one can always just hang some curtains if want to decorate. Now the counter should never exit. Instead a cupboard should pop up in front of say stove, to form an L , especially since theres no oven with only storage under or even moveable tray table to put draining dishes or even a pop down table on sink window over the sink on since how can one use the stove as counter when there dirty pots and pans on it. All that would have been not an issue with the add a room with outdoor kitchen, including ability to then extend bath/toilet area and really be capable to function more than 1 person even in rain weather. We eere capable to 2 queen beds, 3 adults and 2 large dogs in a pop up since it hF an add a room and large stove that detacted to outside with a double sink indoors and counter room galore. Plus the dinette could seat 6 or sleep a fith person. These new campers manu want 15 times the fees but often lack actual liveability save for some usb outlets and ac unit. Never mind tv, they even stripped having a radio and atrenna for needed weather, forest fires and enjoyment to use your cell that is if you can get signal. This camper is all cutesy but lacks significant items that campers actually should meet. Its design to cost alot but then get sick dealing with flimsey awnings, tryong to wash, rinse dishes where no room or cook a whole meal. Where does crock pot go...in the covered o🎉udoor kitchen of coarse along with the wet jackets, towels, pets and mud sneakers and lawn chairs not to get ripped off overnight. Come on, for $40,000 clams it needs a zipped up add a room with insulation instead of chinsey awning with no pitch on skinny aluminum poles that will bend first dog or thing that bumps it. Some snap padded window coverings, a commode that actually fits an adult with tp holder and somehere to bring bikes and another roof lug rack for kayakes or cargo box at minimum. Instead of saying oh look there this pop up shelf that everyone suspects would be a hassel jamming exit but wants to believe somehow theyll magically figure out a go around. Next time demo with at least two for full 2 weeks. I see you ended up putting the awning back in right after showing it up. The manu might as well left the awning off and not charge for it it your going to need purchase a dining tent anyway for rain and mosquitos. Then you could at least not have to run across yard in the rain. Im sorry but these manu stripping insulation and adequate stuffthen charging like they did is a real pet peeve with campers. One has to tear down to go to dump because no where to hang a honey pot. Wait til your camping and someone gets the flu as often happens . Run in rain to john then. Put some needed stuff back on this thing for 40 grand!

    Right off the get...I gotta say I have a big problem with the chinsy awning as an awning is one of the important primary features of any camping all the way back to medieval times. Having an awning one can only use in good weather defects it's purposeq as much camping experiences both rain plus windy days. This one is cheap material and poles that will sag and fail. This has to be put in leaving your possession wet, stuck inside by no ability to shake off rain before entering or step out to cook...though $40000k! Even old canvas tents had a solid, pitched awning that was heavy duty enough not to shake and tear in wind. Secondly saying the seams won't leak because of continuous roll while know humidity still delaminates that material instead of the over the under fiberglass clamshell pod this should be done in at a $$$$40,000k price tag.

    Prices for these trailers are ridiculous. You can get a ram promaster 3500 for half.

    Great video!..We looked at the Prolites a few years back and decided on a Tab NuCamp 320... Why, because the build quality was superior to a comparable Prolite...we also thought the future resale value would be better.. We also tow with a Toyota Venza and find it a great tow vehicle! .

    I was looking at this model and really liked it but I couldn't get past the cost in the US ~28k to 34k, and lack of dealers (just one in the US now).

    Wow tons of whiners in the comments 😂. I’ve been trying to figure out if one of these will fit in a standard 83” tall garage. I saw you said it didn’t fit but would it have if you had gone with the smaller trailer tires?

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix 10 днів тому

      We deflated our tires but still wouldn't fit, although it was very close. If we had the smaller tires I believe it would fit. Thanks for watching!
