    Congrats on your role as an L5 Area Manager. That is great stuff. An L4 AM is an entry level first line (Manager I ) while an L5 AM is a more experienced 2nd line manager (Manager II).
    You should be able to laterally transfer to an Operations Manager (Manager II) role in another business unit within the Amazon umbrella should you find another interesting role or develop upwards to an L6 Senior Ops manager role. Up the pyramid with your experience stuff.
    The compensation and benefit packages are different for every level and the way you are hired (internal vs external; L4 VS L5) . But one thing is for sure...Amazon knows the job is not easy...and takes very good care of its own and not just encourages but backs up your development.
    This is the only company in the world I know that pays you to leave if you cant cope. How amazing is that?
    I work with many L4 and L5 AMs in the Sites and am myself going from an office based L3 role to an L4 AM Site based role... Super excited about it and the trainings, challenges and physical exercise I hope to get from it.

    How did you answer this question if you were asked "2 employees show up late, one reports to you and the other reports to another area manager. you dock your employees pay but the other doesn't get docked. what do you do? Follow up question: you find out the other employee is having financial struggles and really needs help, what do you do then?"

    • @iDizmek
      @iDizmek 4 роки тому +3

      Hi Damilare -
      I finished my interview and this is how I answered that specific question.
      First and foremost, if my employee has heard that the other area manager has not docked the payment, I would explain to them that per Amazon regulations/procedures, I enforce a fair practice among everyone. However, for this one time only, I would tell them that I would reverse the dock on their pay as they have been an exceptionally good team member, and to make sure it doesn't happen again. (This is helping build a relationship/respect/trust)
      I would report to my operations manager and HR and inform of them of what has happened. I would talk to my peer (other area manger) and explain that we need to be fair and uniform across the board with everyone. I would them to make sure their employee takes advantage of Amazon's resources to see if that could help.

    • @gabri-oh4777
      @gabri-oh4777 4 роки тому +4

      Hello Damilare,
      I answered this completely opposite of Dizmek, I stated that I would have to explain the policy to employee A and why the policy is put into place. Then I would have to speak to my leader and HR to report what the other Manager did. As a result, this would prevent loss of unearned pay and prevent damage to the facility's work culture.
      I was offered the job 4 days later.

Tuesday, Day 2 and Wednesday, Day 3: Complete virtual on-boarding at home. Then I am off for a little over a week until I go in for 3 days of working as a member of the team I will be managing, then one week after that I have my first official day as Area Manager. I have more gaps between my working days at the beginning because I am on the Thursday-Saturday overnight shift.

The day I got my call, I was doing a bit of networking and got in touch with someone at the Dallas location who asked if I would be interested in moving out there. I am always open to new experiences so I pretty much immediately said yes and then a couple hours later I had received my compensation package and was contacted by the relocation agents lol and here I am three weeks later, sitting at my apartment in Dallas. Hi Jay - good question. That salary range is likely higher than what someone would be getting as an AM. As we all know Amazon has been growing so they have to hire people to keep up with the growth. With that being said, this means positions will be available in most positions at all levels across the company. If you were to come into a situation like this where the position is somewhat saturated but you do a very good/competitive job, I believe it’s a good time to jump in if you’re focused on career growth rather than just getting a job.

      It depends on the compensation package they offer you. From my understanding most L4/L5 level jobs get two sign-on bonus installments - one on your first paycheck for the first year, and then the second installment is dispersed throughout the second year. So, your first paycheck would be a relatively large one since you get the first year’s bonus all at once. Behind the scenes, you are earning it as you go, so essentially if you quit after six months, you would owe Amazon half of the first year’s sign-on bonus. I’m not sure that every offer has the same two year sign-on bonus but this is just to give you insight.

      Hi Daniesha, first of all congratulations on receiving an offer! In regards to location, I would first double check the subject line in the email containing the offer letter. Usually locations will be coded in an abbreviated format, so Dallas for example is "DAL" and then a number like "DAL3" indicating which facility in Dallas it is, since there are a few. If you do not see this in the subject line, I suggest reaching out to the recruiter who sent you the letter and directly asking them what location this is for. Occasionally, they will not specify a location when providing you with an offer as they may not know where the need is. They attach a couple websites which teach you about the interviewing process and what they are looking for, and they stay true to this when they interview. I also suggest creating a list of the leadership principles and noting examples of times in your life or career where you have exhibited those qualities. Have a friend quiz you so that you are able to recall your examples off the top of your head quickly.
      As for the nerves, these won't go away but it is a good thing you can leverage. You are nervous because you are excited and want to do well - take that excitement and use it as the driving force behind your motivation to study these materials so you can go into this interview feeling confidently prepared. In some of my other videos I go over in more detail what I do on a regular basis - in short I start with a pre-shift meeting, go to my area and staff all my people according to the plan, continuously balance the labor throughout the night to maximize and balance throughput, and handle all the situations that come up as the night progresses. My comanager and I work together to perform these tasks

      Congratulations on getting the call, that is huge news! You should receive the letter soon. I am not allowed to go into specific numbers but I would imagine you'd be satisfied with the 2-year bonus and RSUs. The salary, while good, is not highly competitive in general with Amazon in these first banding structures. If you did great in the interviews and they really see worth in you then you should be set. If you do feel your value was misplaced, then I do encourage you to properly and respectfully negotiate, leveraging your prior experience and contributions.

      Good question! For the first one, I mainly sat down and thought about the aspects of my current job/company that I liked and disliked, and made sure to ask questions surrounding those attributes. I also did a lot of research using the websites Amazon sends you to review. More tactically I wrote down each of the leadership principles and then came up with an example for how I “satisfied” each one (and used the STAR method). That way during the final rounds I knew exactly which experiences to draw from to start that conversation. Does that help?

    • @Grant0669
      @Grant0669  4 роки тому +1

      The final interviews were very much like "tell me about a time when..." and then you engage in dialogue having a conversation about that experience. It didn't feel like so much of an interview as it did a conversation. My advice here is to read through all the interviewing documents they send you very thoroughly and spend time studying how they want you to structure answers to questions in general. You will see the STAR method on these documents, so jot down your experiences and structure them using STAR and you'll be more equipped to answer behavior questions they gear toward you.

    Can you tell me about your experience with the interview? and how you prepped for it? What Amazon Leadership Principles do you think correlate more with the role? • @Grant0669
      @Grant0669  4 роки тому +4

      First of all thank you for watching! Those are great questions - for the interview, the way I prepped was to do a deep dive into the material they provided and really familiarize myself with the leadership principles. I go into a little more depth in a couple of my other videos about my strategy, but essentially I made sure I knew how my own experiences aligned with each principle. Don't think too hard about it - learn the content they provide and just go from there and you will do great
