Saw your post on Instagram and it's understandable to write off a lot of the comments below as "hate." I think for the most part we (your subscribers) are rooting for you and would never begrudge you getting paid! You're one of my favorite UA-camrs by far, and as many people pointed out below, we don't pay for the wonderful content you consistently create.
I think where people have a point is that we follow you because we love *your* style and it was weird to see a living room makeover that was just a furniture company turning your space into a soulless hotel room. Not to mention the fact that the Article video is still pretty fresh in our memories, which made a lot of people wonder what happened to that furniture.
I rarely do so, but I give UA-camrs feedback because I get really sad when I have to unsubscribe because the person has changed so much from the UA-camr I originally subscribed to. And that's not to say that you should never change, but maybe be mindful of the ways in which you do change. We all make mistakes, and since your viewership is why you are able to have the career you have it'd make sense to listen to some of the feedback.
Thank you! It's not the first time that she takes these type of comments as hate instead of constructive criticism. She always asks us what we want to see in her channel, so why can't we say, in a respectful way, what we think about this video in particular? Of course she can have sponsored videos, we know this is her job, but this... This feels weird.
People grow and do upgrades in life ALL THE TIME. It’s called renovations or designs etc. It’s a small space and people budget and make plans to improve their living spaces all the time. Why would anyone just “throw out” their old furniture? There’s a online sales groups everywhere, I’m sure her old furniture found a home. 🙄 anyway, I think everyone should aspire to have a beautiful home. Why should her getting a home makeover have anything to do with her as a person? 🤷🏻♀️

So in what ways would you like her to change? It sounds like "change and evolve but in ways I want to so I still like you".
It doesn't happen that way. And while a person may listen to what a friend is telling them, it's quite impossible to listen to thousands of people and please every single one of them.
And as her channel grows, sponsored videos will happen. This one has #ad on it, so if this kind of content is not for you, don't click on it. Lack of views and interaction is very important feedback for a content creator.
Lan you're one of my favorite YTs- Im an old subscriber, too old to be commenting. But I am not surprised by the comments here - in my humble and honest opinion you should have known as a content creator/ influencer/ video maker/ person in their 20s that this video would not go down so hot. its not the viewers dream to go watch a 12 minute video of a bunch of cool stuff the average person cannot afford and that you received at an extreme discount or for compensation for showing us these lovely pieces. Just an opinion from an OG subscriber to one of my fav people to watch on my laptop when i should probably be working instead. If you need somewhere to send that gorgeous leather article couch, i raise my hand.
I love how it all turned out. Please next time you’re filming something like this show us more of the inspiration for the decor and also more of the making and maybe add a before/ after. The most important part is always the story behind things. Otherwise it just feels like I’m looking at photos on a magazine and I never buy stuff that way. Your jump on the sofa in the ending is the best part of this video. 😂😂❤️❤️
This video is a bit weird. No judgement at all on needing to have partnerships to make an income and make it feasible for UA-cam to be a career. But usually the sponsorships are integrated into a video that has other content, while this whole video is an ad.
looks great but another reminder i do not live the life of an influencer with limitless access to free things lol (i know there are pros and cons to the job but damn that's esspensive)
Really do appreciate the work that goes into your videos but it seems SO full of sponsored content lately. Of course I want you to be making money and support that but there does come a time when it gets out of hand. This is so unobtainable..: A sponsored MAC lipstick video is so different because that a $18 lipstick that we can go buy. I would say if you are going to do videos like this maybe incorporate some design tips or something where we can leave feeling like we got something. Not trying to be rude at all. Just some feedback.

Lan, I’ve loved you for years because you were so personable and relatable. Lately, there have been so many ads/sponsorships for things that are so unattainable and it lowkey is starting to feel v disingenuous. I 100% believe that you use and love all of the things you promote, but it seems so wasteful. You basically just got and spent so much money on the other couch and chairs. Maybe being able to afford to do that is something that I just can’t understand bc it’s so out of my realm of possibility. I’m glad you’re happy and it’s your money to do whatever you want with, but I’m starting to feel a major disconnect from you that I never felt before and it makes me so sad because you always put out great content.

I’m actually really glad that they redid your space like this. Every time I saw your former living room it seemed so dark and drab. Sort of depressing almost, but the lighter tones really brighten and transform the space. It looks so homey and cozy now. Also, that sofa looks like a big version of my current one and I’m obsessed lol.
I love this the only thing I wish you did would be tell us about the knick·knack’s on the shelves, coffee table and tv stand and where you got it. I love the crystals and something’s on the shelves. Great work though to you and Dejan.

When we first moved into our downtown Toronto condo I was in dire need of a hall stool with storage and Urban Barn was the only place I found that had the quality I wanted and the dimensions needed. Now after seeing your gorgeous new living room I want to change up ours as well. Thanks for the inspiration!

So happy for you that you got this sponsorship, and don't worry about the negative comments - when you've got 600K+ subscribers there are always going to be people with something negative to say...
Not always out of hate but out of a total unawareness of how the UA-cam space works and how influencers actually do make a living.
(Or, maybe, out of the shock of coming into contact with something inconvenient called "reality" where there really are different levels of income - and it's not looked at as something loathsome that has to be rectified.)
So congrats to you - your content is awesome and don't let the negativity take aware from your enjoyment of your beautiful home!

I love it! I don’t understand why people are complaining about it being an ad and that it’s impersonal. They picked the pieces themselves, with a little help from the pros! Who wouldn’t love to do that? My house looks like an IKEA summer intern’s poor attempt at “Scandinavian minimalism”, with some random cat toys strewn all over the place. I would jump at a chance like this! What’s the difference between watching this video and flicking through an interior design magazine or scrolling through Pinterest for inspiration or just to look at some beautiful setups? If you don’t like doing that, fine, but do you have to complain about it? Stop hating and just scroll on by if you don’t like it!

This is so disappointing... this friday we had a countrywide strike for the environment and today you post a video of all this new stuff... while you already had furniture... This is so wasteful. I’m sorry but it didn’t look like you needed to get all new stuff. I found it sad because this video is insisting you need a new 3000$ couch every year. We don’t need to buy new stuff everyday. 500 000 people were on strike and marching in montreal and today you do an video ad for your following to spend money on new stuff. Please be considerate for the environment.

I agree that the timing of it isn’t great. But it’s important to keep in mind that the contracts for this sponsorship could have been signed a long time ago.
I think it’d be really helpful if influencers incorporated sustainable and eco friendly options but I imagine it would be difficult to do so and still get sponsorships from companies who want you to sell your audience new products.
You are making a lot of assumptions about her and about the situation. I highly doubt she just took a truck full of her old stuff straight to the dump lol. She could have put her old stuff in storage for a future home. Or donated it. Urban Barn actually partners with multiple charities, including their Give & Take program. Via their website: "Eligible items are transported to Habitat for Humanity's ReStore for resale. All proceeds from Habitat for Humanity's ReStore program go directly into rebuilding homes around the community."
I’m not saying she put her stuff in the dump.. I’m saying always consuming and buying new stuff is really bad for the environment. I understand that’s her job but do you REALLY need to get all this new furniture ? It’s just buying buying and buying. We have to stop thinking like that. There’s a lot of second hand options out there. My ecoanxiety is trough the roof when I see this type of content. Also, the planet going crazy it’s not new, its been like that for years. I hope influencers can be more thoughtful for the environment and what they are showing to their viewers.

there are some great condos outside of Wilson station. I used to live there and it was super easy and convenient to go everywhere and obviously more affordable than living downtown.

Don’t understand all the hate, that’s her job, so what if she got all this for free. All the people saying this is unrelatable and you would prefer some decor tips/tricks, I don’t know what’s wrong with people these days, why do you need literal instructions for everything or influencers to always show affordable stuff. You can get inspired by this and search BY YOURSELF things you can afford. Not everything has to be served on plate for you. I have been following Allana for couple of years now and honestly she’s still one of the most genuine youtubers out there, so instead of all the “feedback” maybe you should be happy for her that she succeeded so much.
