Since watching last weeks video, I spent a day running the P output of the telHarmonic on shift register mode into the Moddemix with the DPO sines mod-demoding them. That ran into a Animal Factory Amplification Coma Reactor delay module, patched through the QPAS on the feedback loop into the X-Pan. The X-Pan also had the H out from the tH into it. Both being panned and crossfaded with each other running into the Morphagene doing some tape delay type stuff. It was beatiful!
I'm sure others have these moments revisiting these videos but each time i watch i leave with a tidbit i may have not appreciated on first viewing. This time coming back (with a little more understanding of the modules sounds) the idea of running whole songs and having a parallel processing of mod demix got me REALLY excited! Thanks for posting these!
that processed piano is hauntingly beautiful! "the same underlying skeleton but a whole new set of hues" is one of the precise ideas that drew me to synthesis in the first place - really excited to have this technique in in my toolkit. thank you for this and all your fantastic videos!
Like the other video, also this is great! The one on transient shaping is the most important for me :) I know you have new interesting models, but it would be great to see another video on this module!
Spending quality time of late with my moddemix has finally gotten me around to building a set of passive ring mods, and these concepts have me so stoked to play more.
Watching this playlist has convinced me I need a ModDemix in my rack so I’ve just ordered one… It’ll sit right next to the Wogglebug in the troublesome corner!
Sort of, but for best results you will want to use VCAs that are bipolar (ring mod), in other words that will invert the signal when receiving negative CV (most VCAs will just be silent with negative CV at the control input). Also the modDemix has unusual crossover distortion that is part of the sound heard in this video. But it is well worth exploring!
Love mine! Btw i find this in another thread, to have better results do we need to have the sinewave as exp to track down or in this case to modulate? I always patch my sines to the 172 (serge) to have an exponencial response and then to the moddemix. Btw the aux input is brilliant for overdrive i have tons of fun creating basslines with overdrive using the moddemix, specially for the color it adds
If the mixer has an exponential response, that will not normally change the shape of the wave, just the response of the amplitude control, so I don't think it should make any difference. However, waveshaping sines, using other waves, folders etc. pretty much any manipulation of your modulating waves, will have a big effect on the sound. I didn't even have time to delve into that in these videos, but using for example the DPO Final output and adjusting its parameters is another dimension of control for this.
Usually. Any inconsistencies add up fast with more harmonically complex waves. The more harmonics you have, and different harmonics between the two waves, the more additional harmonics are added and the less intelligible it becomes. No reason not to experiment though, you never know what you might find!
I noticed you said "musical sounds" and that you seem to understand it not being the right term, hence the quotation mark gesture you make with your fingers. What alternatives are there to say "musical sounds" so that you wouldn't need to use that word? Frequencies? Tuned frequencies? Tones? I noticed you have Silence by Cage in your back shelf so you probably have read the sentence where he says something like: what sound is more musical, a truck passing in front of a construction site or a truck passing in front of a music school? I know I'm horribly misquoting him!
I wish you and Alex(Mylar)would stop using dark patch cables so can follow more clearly with bright cables In the demo that Alex did of O-Control Coast (which I now have both units)it also has dark cables which I can’t follow on my iPhone screen but great Demos of sonics to all concerned👍🆒🇬🇧
Thank you for this feedback! We do have some longer white cables, though I am so used to the black cables being the long ones that it often throws me for a loop. You make a good point though, the white cables will be more visible.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean about "having the sinewave as exp" - can you clarify the patch?
MAKEN0ISE sorry, to have the sinewave (carrier) passing through an exponencial mixer or other module that gives it an exponential output so to speak.
