you my young man are a genius, I discoverd this track only a couple of years ago and have been dying to learn it, the existing lessons not quite up to scratch, however, I kept searching knowing a new lesson would appear and finally my patience has paid off, can't wait to get started learning this, you rock
No problem! I give lessons over Zoom if there's anything particular you'd like to learn :)
@@folkfriend I'm enjoying learning this song so much I promise to take a lesson with you some day, keep up the good work
Thanks! Drop me a message any time, info@finaleguitar.co.uk
This is excellent. I learnt a lot . Difficult song simply explained. You are a great teacher
I think john fahey plays with the thumb open g string when playing C chord sometimes, and makes it even richer!
Thankyou!
Friend, I've been trying to dissociate my hand from my head on part three for years now by listening to different live versions of this song. For such a simple tune, it really brings you to your knees and has more than once made me question my abilities on the sixer. You are a legend. Instant subscribe.
Yes it's a peculiar thing alright! No problem, glad to help :)
I love how you detail the way this song goes. I've been a while playing guitar, but this change on the rythm was new to my hand. You are the only one who explains this song on a way I can begin playing it right. Thank you, the other tutorials also ask you to make donations for the tabs, and those are not as good as you do here. 🙂
No problem at all!
Thank you for this. Great, engaging instruction!
Thanks Frans! I'll hopefully be back with more folky tutorials and general guitar stuff on the shop channel (Finale Guitar) very soon :)
Small tip, tuning your lower E half a step up to an F makes the left hand chords a lot easier. Thanks for the lesson!
Nifty! Thanks for the tip :D
I wish I was in a position to give out Nobel prizes, because you, sir, deserve one. Can you believe I was actually thinking about modifying my capo so it would only hold down one string?
@@jeffreysims3831 Hahaha glad to hear my tip has already been useful :D
Top tip.
Thanks dude, getting me into folk guitar!
No problem! Good luck with it and give me a shout if you'd like some lessons over Zoom 🙂
What a wonderful lesson. Great stuff!
Thanks Gary! There are loads more on Https://folkfriend.co.uk/
These video's are really great, i'm learning lots. thank you!
Hey Dan! Didn't know you were into folk guitar! I'm glad they're helpful, hope you're well and getting plenty of music in at the moment!
Great lesson Nye!! Going to do my best to follow it!
Thanks Drue! Good luck :)
Hi there. Good lesson as always. It would be useful if you had run through the tune, as I am not familiar with it. I am sure I can work it out from the tab
Hi Matt. Yeah I wondered about that too... I didn't bother with a full playthrough in the end though as it ended up being such a long video anyway! You can listen to the original here: ua-cam.com/video/21HwdNkzYq0/v-deo.html
@@folkfriend thanks Nye
@@mattslater4605 no worries Matt, let us know how you get on!
Hi just wanted to ask what tuning he plays in? Can’t seem to find the right one to play along with the track
It's standard tuning but with all the strings tuned nearly a semitone flat 👍
Is jumper changing helpful? Great style easy to follow. Thanks
Sack the continuity editor! Yes, I find two jumpers, two hats and three camera angles per video to greatly enhance guitar playing :P
Did John Fahey use a thumb pick?
Judging from the sound on the album version of Sligo River Blues I don't think he did on that one. However in a lot of the live footage he seems to use metal picks on all his fingers!
He does, all metal pics, but he pours whiskey on his strings
Love this song and would love to be able to play it. Really great instructional video, but the tabs link no longer works, apparently. Do you think it's possible to get the tabs online again?
The website is currently undergoing done maintenance so the tab should be back soon- sorry about the faff and please try again in a few hours :)
