To avoid those bubbles add a touch of dawn to your pan 😁

Will this technique work for any type of textured wall? I have walls where they used plaster to create the texture and smeared it around. It sort of looks like abstract plaster art lol. It's ugly and outdated and I want it to look smooth.

It takes time that's for sure. So worth it though.

Wouldnt it just be easier to put up new sheetrock?

Yes but more cost in materials and time that I didn't want to do.

@@Remodelaholic gotcha, this looked like it might have been more time consuming than Sheetrocking but I could be wrong

While your final results looked good, if you had done it the right way with the right tools, you could have done it much, much quicker.
Also, those bubbles you were getting were probably due to contaminants on the walls.

What's your version of the right way?

It worked for me. I do think some wider tools will definitely help and make it go faster.

Great work, loved the results. I do have a question, though, a stupid one, really. What would happen if the first step with the layered joint compound was skipped and the surface was directly sanded as it is? I am not risking it, but I am curious. Well done, once again.

Is just a bigger mess to deal with the sanding for me.
