Looks great. I'm curious what the walls look like with a low angle light close to the wall. Re tips. you could add different colour pigments to every new coat of compound, that way you detect the voids a lot faster.
Crazy! We had paneling in our house too before we ripped it all out and went to a smooth skim coat. Didn’t do it ourselves though, but watching your tutorial gives me even more appreciation for what my guys did though! Saving this for when I might have to do it for my garage.
@Laura and Edward Cannon, I wondered about that too, the lid has "Dustopper" stamped on it. He probably forgot to list it but apparently it can be purchased at various retailers online and in-store.
Did you sand the exisitng textured paint before applying the compound? or just clean the wall and put the compound over it? Because my textured paint wall has glossy finish on it, I'm afraid the compound can not grab onto it.
Since you took off the trim around the doors, will you put corner protectors on there or just leave as is? I think about it chipping if you move furniture in and out. Thanks.
Awesome! Been so cool and informative to see the detailed process of a full house renovation like this. All the little pointers you throw in make it worth taking notes. I will remember these videos for when I get something haha. Cheers man not much like these around.
Would it be easier to remove all the electrical devices and cap off wires and push back into boxes instead of trying to work around the potentially energized wires ?
I'm wanting to do this pretty soon. Just wondering, how long did it take you to compete this project? Trying to get an idea of time. I would like to do it all in a weekend
You apply the drywall mud to the painted surface? My walls are semi-gloss, no texture. Can I apply the drywall mud to the semi-gloss paint, no texture, without any prep?
Hi Mike, I bought the sander and the Dustopper based on your recommendation. My question is how did you connect the house from the sander to the dustopper. It looks like you used white duct tape. Is that correct? Thanks in advance for your help!
Good work but touching up skim coats after they’re sanding leaves a lot of mud flashing through paint due to an effect of over lapping/ burnishing the mud making it more compact in some areas and you can’t sand it down, so touch ups could be after prep coat or primer or just re skim whole wall after touch ups.
The walls look great. How any hours did it take you, start to finish? This desert house is going to look fantastic when you are done. If you follow the NBA, I'd like to know what you think of OKC's picks in the draft. As an Okie who now lives in LA, I'm really stoked about the Thunder's immediate future. Thanks for the video and for the entire series.
Thanks dude!! it was 4-5 full days and a couple easy days of spot filling/sanding. I definitely would've taken Jabari Smith after Orlando passed on him but I hope Chet can put on some muscle/weight over the next couple seasons and be really good!! OKC's about to be on a major comeback with these young guys
So my issue I’m having pretty much as soon as I get the mud on the wall it starts drying. I have literally no time to start spreading. I can barely do 1/4 a section as you because it starts to dry. Then I have to try to get all of those small spots to connect. What am I doing wrong?
Great job! Love your work! Nevertheless you forgot to mention that you have to clean the walls after every sanding. Also this mask is not the best solution to very small particles.
@@ModernBuilds Thanks for making this vid! I was going to spend a weekend helping a friend out with a wall remodel, but this came up at a perfect time and my friend waved me off citing this vid as motivation to try to do it himself :D Incredible coincidence for me (though I'll likely pop in to peek at the progress)
It is to cover the existing texture or get a "premium" finish on new construction. Most people don't do it here either.. its a luxury finish you see in a lot of modern homes out here in California though
bruh you could of used your knife to bust out all high points then sand. you over there looking like you sanding down a whole mountian on certain spots. . but you got it done, whatever works best, you did say your not a pro, yeah bust out them high points with nice sturdy 6" knife, scrap it all down then sand. I'm no pro but I've been taught a trick or 2.
Dude for the love of God don't use double audio. If want to record live then use a mic because the eco in crazy and you sound loud, not clear, and super echoey. Or completely mute everything live and add audio later. But this is horrible
Love your work, but just a disclaimer to protect yourself please add dont protect live electrical wire with blue tape, you know people are going to accidentaly shock themselves.
Renovating our first house. I'm so scared but you made it less scary. Thank you
I learned how to totally remodel our kitchen using UA-cam. It’s the next best thing to working as an apprentice.

I've loved watching this whole home transformation series! Can't wait to see what's next
Thanks for following along!!! We're getting there!

Does the end result stands the test of light beam?
On Modernnn Buildssss. Makes me crack up every time. You’re dope 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Very nice job. Looks very clean. Keep making. God bless.
Thanks Jared!
Make sure you vacuum your walls really well before priming/painting.

More time and energy than I was expecting but BIG difference!
Dude you gotta get a lapel mic. That echo is wild.
Thank you. The roller was a good idea
Where did you get that cool bucket top dust separator, I don’t see it listed above.

Got it at the depot, link added!

I been looking for this question no one seems to answer
You are right you are not a pro you are Super Pro 😉 love watching these videos
haha!! Thanks a ton for watching :)
Looking slick!!!!
So looking forward to the paint. I love how you tackle big projects like this and slowly get through it. That is my ball park but with cars

Gotta watch the entire things to catch the tips like cleaning off the long scraper. Pigment in the touch up is really smart so you know where to sand.
😳🐶🐶remarkable!👏👏👏
Looks fantastic!
I like it, keep up the good work

What is the reason for not waiting until after second or third coat to sand?
how will you prime the walls after this?
Thanks for the vid! Question: the old surfaces were painted, right? Did you treat them in any way before applying the compound?
love this! Were you able to do this in one day?

Which south park characters do you voice? ;) Good video
Hey real talk, how long did it actually take you to finish that room?
7 days of full work.. it was no joke lol
@@ModernBuilds Holy cow. After seeing this my wife went "We can do that to our (2400 sq ft) house!" And I had to level set her real quick haha
8 minutes 51 seconds

Is there a way to smooth over a door? Mine have these tacky, fake wood texture.

Okay, love the video...but is it just me or did I not see a video for the furnace. If there is one ca someone let me know thanks.
furnace came with the house :)
Finishing outside corners with tape instead of corner bead is asking for trouble down the road.
Can I use any joint compound but water it down a bit ?
Yeah, "all purpose" joint compound is what I've seen and used.
How do you clean the dust (and with what) after sanding the walls?
Buckets of water & moist rags to pick up all the dust broom/mop for floor MUST PROTECT eyes too from dust
Damn that joint compound dust. Destroyer of vacuums!!!! It's by far the worst part of this process.
I appreciate that you need to clear a room first. There will be dust etc.
So my issue I’m having pretty much as soon as I get the mud on the wall it starts drying. I have literally no time to start spreading. I can barely do 1/4 a section as you because it starts to dry. Then I have to try to get all of those small spots to connect. What am I doing wrong?
Try making it with more water also check the mix you bought there are some that dry in an hour, 30 min 5 min etc
What is type of wood?
That roof is low or u or very tall
Hi Mike, about how much joint compound did your living room use? I saw you mix the 3.5 gal but I'm curious if it took much more than that.
Just Like a SUPER PRO 👌.

What did you use to remove excess mud from the 48" trowel?! Like a 48" trough? It's so sick tho!
haha! just a putty knife into a 5 gallon bucket
Great job! Love your work! Nevertheless you forgot to mention that you have to clean the walls after every sanding. Also this mask is not the best solution to very small particles.
Protip: you can use a strong light to check for smoothness or inclusions during the touchup
nice!!

Won't the thick coats crack?
Nope as long as you allow it to dry fully 12 hours or longer in hot humid climates before the next coat
V good
This sounds so dumb but this is such an easy fix rather than scraping things off!
Woah I'm early
👏👏👏👏👏
Gotta invest in a full face respirator
We don’t do this up here, we just paint the drywall. Can someone explain why you would skim coat? Looks like a LOT of extra work…
If you don't like the texture

So if I can do my walls i will save thousands ..correct ? A $150,000 quote to remodel could be done for may be $75,000
What happened with voice? Very bad echo?
You sound like Carl from Brawlstars
Whoever thought it was a good idea to put a textured wall in a house is nuts. Textured walls are a real problem. And Ugly.

Okayyy! Now I need to find a handyman who can do this. The textured paint in my house is so hideous I grit my teeth over it!
Stop yelling get a mic hahahaah
But great video 👏👍
I wouldn't show close ups of that wall either
