Bubble Yum- Somehow, I've never imagined that Bubble Yum would make a Spearmint flavor for their gum. I bet it was quickly discontinued when it didn't go over well with kids. Peak Antifreeze- When I saw the man climbing the mountain, carrying the bottle of the antifreeze, I thought he was going to pour the whole bottle over the mountain, essentially thawing out the entire mountain when he reached the top.
What's wild is that at the time of this McDonald's commercial for the Big Mac it had only been around for 11 years, while Burger King's Whopper had been around 21 years at the time.
Burger King was a relatively obscure regional fast food restaurant during the first 10 years of existence, located primarily in Florida (where it originated). It only became a nationally known chain after it was sold to Pillsbury in 1967. I don't even think Burger King commercials aired nationally until 1969...after McDonald's had introduced the Big Mac. So both would have entered the public consciousness at around the same time.
Isnt that Jeffrey Tambor in the background with no dialogue in the beginning of the Frigidaire commercial? James Widdoes, having survived double secret probation, appears at the end.
@Spaced Invaders Positive. Interestingly, after Dune fell through, Giger's concept art and Dan O'Bannon's special effects were then put to use in Alien. Watch the documentary about Alejandro Jodorowsky's Dune if you want the whole story, it's a good watch.
@Spaced Invaders I also meant to say, the picture in the Omni commercial is one of many concept art pieces that Giger made for Baron Harkonnen's palace/fortress, most of which took the form of a morbidly obese man with the inhuman proportions that his art is known for.
This might have been the first ad for PEAK antifreeze you posted - I saw in other volumes ads for Prestone antifreeze. That was a bit nonsensical the fried chicken ad but the jingle is catchy! Plus KTRK used the Move Closer To Your World theme for their news famous in Philadelphia as well as in New York for a while (WPIX Action News)

6:09--Wow; Lavoris mouthwash! I haven't seen that stuff in ages, though a Google search indicates that it's still around. 7:25--I'm not familiar with Ron's Krispy Fried Chicken, but it looks awfully good. That must be (or must have been) a regional chain not present in my home state of Iowa.
6:58 - A 10 hour vacation slide show? That's a kind of torture that even the most evil dictators wouldn't dream up.
Man I ove when you do 70’s commercials. Of coarse love my 80’s but 70’s is always fun to watch too

I miss Bubble Yum Grape! I mean maybe they still make it but it’s been forever since I’ve had any!
What a happy, different, time.
The old guy in the hat was Houston Oilers head coach Bum Phillips
That credit card calculator was pretty nifty for its time.
4:30--Wow; I didn't realize they made calculators that small that far back. I don't recall seeing those until the mid-1980's or so.
I may not have been born til 87' but I sure do enjoy these commercials from the 70's. I enjoy seeing what it was like before I was even a thought. Lol
@Spaced Invaders yes I did :(
That Omni commercial is amazing. I have very fond memories of that magazine.
Good ole days!!
In that Peak commercial, how the hell is that guy going to get that car off that mountain? Asked myself that when I first saw it, and still wonder..
A helicopter, most likely.
I love these 70’s ads!
There was a second version of the Hush Puppies Ad that I remember seeing as a kid.
It doesn’t seem to be anywhere.
I used to subscribe to OMNI magazine.

The music in these commercials is sublime 5:08 and even mcdonalds
I found a complete run of Omni online. It was created by the CEO of Penthouse at the time I think.
Wow I didn't know Doug Murphy came from Houston to the Bay.
Is that Connie Sellecca in the Excedrin commercial at 9:25??
Back when advertisers knew there stuff...
Yay!!!!!...Houston Oilers' legendary coach Bum Phillips eating Ron's Fried Chicken...yum! yum!
0:40 he's so brave
8:25 This music was also used by WPVI-6's Action News in Philadelphia (and still is!)
I used to chew Bubble Yum in the 70s .It was soft , rectangle , and made huge bubble
Cake mix commercial... STOP SAYING MOIST! 😂
5:38--Pudding in the mix! That was a "thing" back then.
Isnt that Jeffrey Tambor in the background with no dialogue in the beginning of the Frigidaire commercial? James Widdoes, having survived double secret probation, appears at the end.
I miss Omni magazine.
That Omni commercial has unused concept art H.R. Giger did for a Dune movie that never got made!
The painting at 5:18, yes. The painting at 5:20, no.
@@80sCommercialVault Yup, just the Harkonnen fortress!
@Spaced Invaders Positive. Interestingly, after Dune fell through, Giger's concept art and Dan O'Bannon's special effects were then put to use in Alien. Watch the documentary about Alejandro Jodorowsky's Dune if you want the whole story, it's a good watch.

Was going to say the same thing about Move Closer To Your World, I always associate it with WKBW channel 7 in Buffalo.
The Honda that can run both unleaded & leaded fuel!
1:51--Back when "regular" gasoline meant gasoline that contained lead.
I remember ads in the 80s that had economy fuel below regular! 😲
Bubble Yum-full disclosure..i was there in the crowd at that contest-a relative of mine knew the secretary

Betty Crocker SuperMoist Cake Mix-that look on her face @5:44
Lavoris-good for when youre getting ready to attend church services
Miss Clairol Color-Hold-music sounds like it should be used in a horror movie trailer
The Bad News Bears-rumored to be yet another remake coming to Disney+
The Bad News Bears was produced by Paramount. It has nothing to do with Disney, and they do not own the rights to do a remake.
Ron's Krispy Fried Chicken was a chain based in the south and was sold in 1983.

spearmint bubble yum?! gross
0:00--I loved Bubble Yum back then (nowadays I prefer Wrigley's), but I don't remember it coming in spearmint.
