There's something about 70s commercials that are distinctly different from 80s ones. They seem to have a certain low res glow to them that's distinct to that decade. Makes me wish I could be back in 1979 right now.

70s commercials were mostly produced on film. Into the 80s, at least the local and regional spots were starting to be shot on videotape, which tended to much higher contrast.

Warmer color tones in general as well. Like there's a "70's palette" they picked their colors from.

I've been watching these commercials from my childhood for a while now and the this first one I came across with a Superman ad.

On this day, Feb 9 1979, Walter Hill's film "The Warriors" is released in the United States, sparking gang violence at many theaters and a halt to the film's marketing campaign.

Love that Warriors trailer! The background music was actually composed by Tangerine Dream for the soundtrack of 1977's Sorcerer, another wildly underrated flick!

6:28 - This whole advertisement is oddly ominous for a TV commercial, right to that final zoom in.

    Some real classics here!
0:19--I love the Superman movies, especially the first two.
0:49--"Riunite on ice--That's nice!" An iconic advertising slogan that I remember very well, even though I was 13 years too young to legally drink wine in 1979.
5:57, 13:13, and 16:13--Re: the above comment, it's kind of funny how I remember a lot of beer commercials from this period. The Schlitz spot has a great jingle.
1:20--JoAnne Worley is not my favorite "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" cast member, but she really made a name for herself on that show.
3:20--I remember using Stri-Dex religiously, although that was a few years later (mid-80's).
4:22--What ever happened to that Nestle cookie mix? They sure had a great catchy jingle.
7:37--One out of many great Hawaiian Punch commercials over the years.
10:52--I love "Mork and Mindy"! It seems to have abruptly left Antenna TV, but I understand it is resurfacing on their new spin-off channel, Rewind TV, which is debuting later this year.
11:23--Wow; what a classic Hershey's jingle! Great to see that one again.
12:13--OK, I'll fess up; although that brand of shampoo isn't really marketed toward single guys like me, I sometimes use it myself.
12:43--Back when deodorant usually came in roll-on or aerosol, before we knew that the latter could cause problems for the environment.
17:43--Although this spot doesn't mention it, I believe Mrs. Butterworth's syrup actually contained a small amount of butter back then. Not sure if it still does.

Kleenex- Joanne Worley seems far too excited to be promoting that Contest in a plain looking store like that.
Nestle Cookie Mix- "New And Improved Cookie Mix" Sure sounds better than Old and Inferior Cookie Mix.
Mrs. Butterworth- Impressive Stop Motion Animation on Mrs Butterworth herself. Also, I like how the leading syrup and Mrs Butterworth's syrup are facing opposite directions when pouring the syrup.

The background music in the Tampax commercial was used for NBC Wimbledon coverage for years. Miss that era.

The voice-over announcer in the Allstate commercial was the late Ed Reimers.

The Warriors was a good fun campy film. I never seen it in Theaters. I was a year old in 1979.

I saw the Warriors at the movies. There was a lot of young people pumped up by the movie but everyone was cool. Cops were walking around the theatre to see things did not escalate into violence.

In the Ban Roll-On commercial, it’s Mary Frann!!! Just 3 years before the premiere of Newhart. Also, in the Family Feud promo, I believe that’s a young Quinn Cummings getting awkwardly kissed by Richard Dawson.

Jim Fixx jogged, but otherwise led a very unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, eating fast food, and junk food. Further, he was genetically predisposed to heart disease. Jogging is good, but if you have heart disease in your family that isn't all you should do to stay healthy.

I'm getting a Jane Krakowski vibe from that Nestle Cookie Mix commercial. She did do commercials as a kid and she would've been age 10 by that time.

No ABC Friday Night Movie..? :(
Superman The Movie-still eons better than anything Zack Snyder directed
    Stridex-girl on left:"Okay,start talking..."
Sylvania Superset-looked like a trailer for a sci-fi thriller.."Sylvania Superset..it will control your mind. Rated PG."
Delta House-trying to expand Animal House into a series just didnt work
Every Which Way But Loose-i bet when they wanted Clint to do another film after Any Which Way You Can,he told Clyde to "right turn" the studio exec
ABC's Wide World Of Sports-shouldve added"..just in case you forgot what network it's on."
Quaker 100% Natural Cereal-R.I.P Jim Fixx..he died doing what he loved
How The West Was Won-loved how the guy who got punched took out the other two behind him
Baretta-that look on his face indicated it was times to dodge the motorcyclist
The Warriors-Baseball Furies were the true wimps
The Silencers-i wouldve been running a lot more faster
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers-ending stayed with me for a long while..also loved how there was no music during the end credits, just absolute silence

Panties and hose combined, and wearing hose under pants. Not nostalgic about that at all.
