So glad to see you back and everything is going ok for now. I hope your parents know they have thousands of termites who are on team Jack and Vicki! 😊
You’ve been one of my favorite comedians since I saw you on Comedy Central many moons ago when I lived in Portland and now that I live in KC I love hearing you mention midwest shenanigans on the Pubcast. Sometimes during the week I’ll catch snippets of news and think “I can’t wait until the Pubcast Wednesday to hear what Kathleen has to say about this”. Thank you for keeping all of us termites informed, entertained, and from buying sub par ranch.
I took care of my beloved mom until she passed away last march at the age of 90. I had beautiful moments and I had very hard moments. But I wouldn’t change a minute of it. She also love dolls. I miss her so much 💔
My grandmother is 101 and mother is 81. Imagine the fun I have!
Glad to hear that old Jack "eye of the tiger" Madigan isn't down for the count yet. Thanks for the update. ❤
Been worried about you & your parents. I know you had to cancel a show and we missed an episode. I hope your Dads on the mend ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have done the same with my mother, it shows your wonderful character that you are there for your parents. I just love you for so many reasons.❤
Having spent the past 3 months in hospitals and rehab, I understand Jackelope’s crankiness. You’re totally on their schedule, but at the same time, nothing’s scheduled! “You’re going for a CT today.” “When?” “I don’t know; some time today.” And then transport shows up 1 minute after you get your lunch tray. As a patient it’s maddening. So your dad got moved because of his attitude. I can beat that - my dad’s doctor FIRED my dad as a patient. My dad was such a pain in the a$$ that the doctor said, “I can’t help you if you’re going to be like this; you’ll have to find another doctor.” At any rate, I hope your dad improves and can go home soon.
“Wrong Ocean” & “I dunno. Somebody saw one once.” Are both in my everyday conversations! 😂😂
Yes! "Somebody saw one once"...hehe😅
Someone saw one once!!!! In Kathleen's voice though. Epic. 😆 hahahhaa
Always great, always appreciated. Thanks, Mama Termite & Paddles! Fire!!!🔥
Don't worry about missing shows, everyone understands. This is what happens when and we will all go through it...I hope my kids will be there for me one day.
Staying at my 89 yo mom’s (2 hours from my home) because she had a total knee replacement (just one knee) yesterday. I’ll be here for 2 weeks. We get it, Aunt Kat!❤❤
Mama Termite I am sorry for your stress. I lost both of my parents within the last 18 months and your podcast was one of the things that helped me get through the late nights lying awake. Keep on keeping on I think I speak for all of termite Nation when I say we are praying for you and your family for peace, grace and comfort.❤
Just a reminder to all of you termites that get to take care of your elderly parents, you are blessed 💖. My parents and brother passed when I was 21. Make lots of memories😊 one of the funniest episodes 😂😂
My neurologist is a social butterfly. And he has a fun name. Dr Dickoff.
I was my Mom's caregiver for the last 5 years of her life. The years were filled with denial, frustration, anger, hope, angst, and joy. I wish I had recorded conversations and asked more questions of her about family history etc. as there is no one left now to answer those types of questions. It is hard to plan for anything in the future because of the uncertainty of what might happen so you take it one day at a time. Even so, I would willingly do it all again. It has been 6 years and I miss her as much now as I did right after she passed. Cherish the time you have with your family. Your termite family understands.
Kathleen, i now live in saint louis but originally from Kansas City,Westport area…i used to go to Katz Drugstore at Westport Road and Main and every time you open a bag of “Guys” potato chips…i laugh because well they used to make “Guy’s Potato chips and nuts and one time, when i was in that Katz Drugstore there came an advertisement come over the loud speaker,”…so the next time you’re in the store be sure to grab some Guy’s nuts…”…i laughed until i got iinto the parking lot and everytime you open a bag of Guy’s i laugh again
So glad to hear your Dad is still with us. 💜🙏🏻💜
Showtime? 7:00pm is perfect IMHO.
I also took care of my parents. (I am the youngest of 3, and the only one who had kids.)
We built a house together and moved them in with us. I am a Stay at home mom, so I went from caring for my two boys, to caring for them and two seniors, which you know is like taking care of toddlers… we got 6 fantastic/hard/wonderful/stressful years with them before they passed in 2019, only 31 days apart. (Dad went first. Mom had Alzheimer’s *main reason for the move,* and she was lost without him. *Married for just shy of 58 years.*)
It’s hard, but a blessing when you can help. And my kids are better men now because of it. (Ages 18 & 22)😊
Love and prayers to you, Kathleen!!
You and Paddles singing Northern Lights song was golden. Go Paddles! 😂 Best to Jack, he’s a fighter for sure. My Mom was too and it was crazy at times, but we all were fortunate enough to handle it together as a family. I know you all can deal with anything that happens through love. Love to you all! ❤
Older parents are extremely difficult. That’s all. (Impossible to explain)
Love ya Mr. Jack. You’re freaking awesome!
Please start w a bet of when Paddles cracks open a beer (soda).😂
My oldest cat loves watching tennis 🎾
I don't know if you know this but the movie Awakenings is about the doctor Oliver Sacks played by Robin Williams. Dr. Sacks has written many of books about brain things because he loved the brain and how strokes or concussions affect us. All of his books are fascinating. I recommend them and also My Stroke of Insight is about the author who is a brain doctor who writes about her stroke and how she perceived the world during recovery. It really helped us with our mom and her strokes. I know you like to read. Good luck dude! It's a tough road but easier the more you know about it.
This is really helpful, thank you 🙏 ❤
Thank U for mentioning those resources! Blessings fellow termite!😊
So happy you are back and all is well. God bless you Mr Jack.
My 88 year old dad is with us. I feel ya....CRAZZZZZY. Love my dad
It can be a THANKLESS task to be taking care of the oldies, dropping everything for them, etc. We Termites definitely understand how crazy this period of life can be ❤
And they dropped everything for us when we were born. They raised us to the best of their abilities. And that's all we can do. Our best. The circle of life. It's so tough.
I loved the chatty, over sharing version of Stevie a few months ago ❤
Yeah, the old people thing is hard. My dad now basically is experimental. As in, everything they use to keep him trucking, is some cutting edge thing that’s never been done before.
Excited to see you Saturday Kathleen! You're half of my mother's birthday present (Lewis in Iowa City in April is the other half)!
Hoping for the best for your father!
Oh my God, my Dad was the same way. He died the day after St Patricks Day last year. He had to be moved because he was so loud and complaining.
If you read this thinking it’s in chronological order it’s a bit trippy. He died and then got too loud? Sorry, not the grammar police, just sharing my scanner brain read through.
I work in healthcare. Whenever an elderly person has a personality change, have them checked for a UTI. It's very common for this to happen with older people.
Oh Kathleen, 57 years old here… feel your entire experience. You are not alone. Much love and prayers
Burton Cummings sang “American Woman”! The Guess Who along with Randy Bachman who was the B in BTO.
Yes...come on Paddles, Burton Cumming is no folk singer. He's been in the music industry for 60 years and is going on tour in the US this summer! 😊
I don't want the employee break room. I want the employee discount!!
Yay! Stevie talked again! So now ive come to expect fire, termites, and stevie doll saying funny things through you 😂😂❤❤
😅 Kathleen you're now my longest relationship!!!
😂😂😂
I gave “ Regime” two episodes and that was enough for me.
Thx for the pubcast!
So glad you can be there for your parents. Never apologize.
Jack Whitehall's dad had a doll made that he took on the road when he and Jack traveled around
Winston!!!!!
7pm is always a good time for a show; time for dinner either before or after and I can get in my jam-jams by 10-ish. Love you, Mama Termite!!!
Also, this grumpiness keeps my dad going, so your pops is nothing unusual in that, LOL 😆
Hi, all!!
Burton Cummings was lead singer for Guess Who
You're great, as always. Good thoughts to you, your parents and family.
7:00 pm is the perfect time for the show to start if the venue is open to that. I find shows that begin at 8:00 pm to be too late,
It is tough to care for aging parents; I know from personal experience. You will never regret spending that time with them after they're gone. You're a good daughter.
Paddles should get an award for best sound track.😂
Thanks for the podcast this week! Totally didn’t expect it with all you have going on. And I prefer the 7 pm show time, por favor.
Big Baby Paw Paw makes me think of taking pictures with Flat Stanley.
As a child of senior parents and a 96 year old world war 2 vet. It’s not easy. You’re not alone. You’re in no man’s land, the twilight zone.
Glad you’re dad is doing better ♥️. Couple more things - 1) We took my mom to see Barry Manilow around 2005. I agree - it was a great show! 2). One of my friends is special needs, and, he works for Safeway ♥️. So nice they have programs like this.
Wanted to say hey and tell you what a huge fan our whole family is of yours!! I saw you in Charleston, SC last May. My husband surprised me with tickets to your show for my March birthday. My daughter and I know pretty much every one of your skits and drive the kiddos and my husband crazy. They always know when we're talking in "Madigan" lol. Our daughter who's 36 and I were so excited to see you AND THEN my husband who has had to listen to us and our "Madigan" talking for years decided that he wanted to be the one to take me so BOOOOOOO! But, we didn't have the heart to tell him NO and could not get a 3rd ticket together so she didn't get to go. All that to say, when I was listening to your podcast and finally heard you were going to be in Marietta, OH I called my sister, because that's where we moved from and my sister still lives there, she is also a huge fan too. I've listened to you for so long my sis and daughter had no choice but to start listening so they could understand my smart ass comments from your shows. We booked 3 tickets immediately, (it was almost sold out), called my daughter and told her and she lost it!!! She actually started crying. We are so excited to see you. Marietta is a cool little town, emphasis on the "little" but has a few good drinking breweries with some pretty good food. But I've lived in Charleston, SC for 7 years, so it's kinda hard to top the food scene here. Can't wait to see you with my daughter and sis in April!! Prayers for Jack, your parents remind me of my own and always make me laugh!
If I ever have the pleasure to meet you, I have the best elderly Dad story. We’ll have a good chuckle.
Plenty of NFL games have been played in colder conditions! Was at your show Saturday in Indy, loved it, thanks for the great night!
Its great you and your sister are laughing at dad. A parent loves their kids to be happy even at our expense. 😂❤🎉
The next special will be called creepy dolls and guest bedrooms.
Time thing: 7pm. My wife & I both agreed on this time slot.
I'm sorry to hear about all that is going on with your dad. That said, when you mentioned the neurologist issue, what you were referring to is their bedside manner. Some ppl like the direct, right to the point, and not super friendly. You & I prefer doctors with a good bedside manner. Friendly, a little sweet and jovial and understanding the issues are serious, but also know how to put the family at ease.
Also, my Dad is the eldest of 12 so when my grandmother was in the hospital & having brain surgery we took over the entire waiting room. I remember being so anxious my parents let me stay at the hospital with them and it was literally 30+ ppl going in & out of the visiting/hospital room. Drs are used to that to a point.
On a personal note: I had a massive stroke at birth & I've seen world renowned doctors because I only live on half a brain, (the other half was obliterated by the stroke) but I walk, talk, & have full cognitive function which what the doctors said is "medically unexplainable." I have had some crazy weird conditions over the years that doctors have never seen. (My parents & I believe the stroke had to have some effect on my body, but there is no medical proof of it.) I've been all over the country with my rare conditions that no regular specialist has seen. I'm in 9 medical journals. I still puzzle them so I get the 1 in 100 things. There are some of us out there that have beaten the odds.
My wife & I did have to fire an entire team of physicians once and start over. The doctor said, "If you fire me, you fire everyone on the team!" We said, "Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!"
I had been in the hospital 3 months and a new team came in and I was out of the hospital in 5 days.
It's a serious strain on caregivers. My wife's Mom just had a stroke in Nov 2022. She's 84. We live 1000 miles from her. My wife wants to be with her Mom, but I have been so sick she can't leave to see her Mom. It's a struggle for real.
I've had the adrenaline rushing drug and it makes you feel super weird too. Part of what your Dad is going through is medication side effects.
I'm on high amts of pain meds 4x a day. I'm 44 and never allowed to work again. I'm not saying this for sympathy, just that I understand from a patient perspective and see what it does to caregivers. It's exhausting.
I'm actually on meds now so if I'm rambling...
I'm praying for Jackalope, your Mom, and all of you trying to keep his health in check. Sending good healing vibes!
As a health care worker, you see people you are sure you will never see again....3 months later they are back out there living like nothing happened! Glad he is better, not his time! Lots of stories left him, apparently!!
Dan Hill sang Sometimes when we touch. Big hit.
I can't believe you talked about Bruce Cockburn! AHH! I'm a BIG FAN of his, have been for years! WHOO! K, you totally made my day! + GORD! Gordon Lightfoot was played constantly by my dad and I love him too. Paddles, this is like the best Canadian pubcast ever! Keep it up, gals! 🤩
Dancing in the Dragons Jaws is my favorite album from Bruce C.
I really appreciate all your work & I recently found your Pubcast. SO, I had to go back to #1, to get caught up. Thanks a lot & my very best wishes!
I hope things continue to improve/stabilize. 🙏🏻
Nashville Banker: ”Well honey, whatdya want?”
Wolf: “All your money.”
Banker: “Well alright, just gimme 30 minutes to count this out. You just stay there in your little Wolfie outfit, and I’ll be right back!” 😄🤣😄
Burton cumming was originally in a band called the GUESS WHO with Randy Bachman from Winnipeg .Carol baker was a country singer. Bruce Murray Anne Murray’s brother was there too!
Hi Paddles!! Love you!!
7 pm show time!!! So I can still get a good bar seat after the show!!!
Does Baby Cat get a cut?
Just an fyi..Paddles probably knows this the voice of Franklin was Noah Reid..he played Patrick on Schitts Creek! and he is a musician (and Canadian) in his own right...wonder what he thinks???
I vote for 7pm
Burton Cummings was in the rock group The Guess Who. They sang American Woman.
I like a 7pm show, especially if I have to work the next day being up really early. My husband and I aren't seniors yet, but we're ready with early shows and dinner.
7pm is good. It's then early enough to hit the bar afterwards! 😁
My dad will be 80 this June. He and my mom drive a hard 9 hours to visit us often. He loves driving through the state of CT (sarcasm) where I was born. Lots of colorful language. Then tells me I'm a true Pilgrim. 😂
They are fun and my sister and I are so lucky to have them. We are hyper aware these days are numbered. I hope I can survive it.
Love your podcast! Hope to see your show soon and getting merch❤
Mama Termite, it’s your termite from New Zealand writing you. I have been helping my 80 year old dad recover from back surgery and that’s been fun. I have had to insist that he participate in his own recovery which has had its moments (he lost his iPad privileges once) they really do become children. Team Jack and Vicky all the way.
They really do become children! It's not easy
Kathleen, I've been a fan for so many years now, I feel like I know your Mom and Dad. Get well wishes for your Dad.
Don’t apologize-family especially parents come first! ❤ I hope your Dad is ok!
Glad to hear the Jackal is hanging in there. No one prepares you for having to care for your parents:) showtime - 7pm preferred
7 o'clock is perfect. I prefer to day drink, have an early dinner, head to the show, and have my driver get me home before 11.
Missed you last week. Hope your dad is healing ❤️❤️❤️
No dude Mary Bono is getting Chers share of the royalties. When Sonny died Mary said she gets them and they have been in court ever since.
8pm show time is great! Especially on A Friday night we need to get home from work, eat, get ready and travel to the venue 😊❤
Baby Cat 💜💜💜
You are blessed to have siblings to help you parent your parents! (I was an only child)
This episode was at the same time funny and hard to watch when it delved into the parents. I can so relate to everything you were saying. It takes a village to get through it and there's always one asshole sibling in the mix, who has minimal involvement in the process and always questions everyone else.
My grandmother was darn near kicked out of the hospital after some falls and strokes because of her behavior, I feel you
7pm please and thank you
Cute little baby cat!
Loved loved loved seeing Baby Cat❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mama Termite & Paddles, you should put a poll on your UA-cam for the showtimes. Have 7, 7:30 & 8pm as choices Would be much easier to track. Just a thought for you. Hope Jackalope mends quickly & loses his voice (for your sanity, 😂🤣😂)
Kathleen, try to be gentle with yourself regarding canceling shows. Your fans understand that family comes before work. Prayers for your dad and family 🙏
Saw Barry in 1982…?..Kentucky, at the age of 20 ..?..
Still in my top 3 concerts.
As far as pure “showmanship” Manilow is number 1
I definitely was worried about you...Seriously, I was...glad to hear everyone is doing ok...
Happy Termite Day! Love ya all!😊🎉❤
730 showtimes my preference 😊 prayers and hugs to you, your dad and family❤
Paddles UR Canadian! I M 2 & also American & Brit. Tricolor bilingual. Still your laugh. But the screaming goat is my absolute favorite! And, Kathleen U R the best, ever. 😂 yes, here in Britain, story said it is in a deep trench nearer to Malaysia and the company doing the search say if they cannot find it, the government doesn't have to pay them.
My mom a true Detroiter ONLY used Hillmans.
I grew up in Calif. Here it’s Best Foods, not Hellman’s, lol.
Think 7 & 9 is good if you are doing a double show evening. I am a "traveling termite" and would much rather hit the road early to make it to a show than have a long ride home at the end.
“Oh, and one other thing…” name of next special
7pm is great.
Oh Mama Termite…. We are right with you! My dad not only lived through overtime …. But DOUBLE overtime! Growing old is not for sissies!!
Burton Cummings was in the Guess Who back in the seventies. They sang American Woman first.
