No other Level in a WWII Shooter has made me feel more immersed in what was going on during this time period than Arnhem Knights. The music hits you & provokes thought, the Level itself puts you in a almost unwinnable situation amidst the eerie & sombre backdrop of war-torn downtown Arnhem.
Definently. The music is sombre because at this point in Market Garden, the airborne troops weren't fighting to take their bridge objectives anymore, they were fighting to survive and break out of a German encirclement from airborne, SS and armoured divisions with no support or heavy weaponry because the operation had failed and the British XXX corp couldn't cross the bridges to reinforce them.
I happened to watch old replays of games I liked when I was younger and heard this levels soundtrack. I had to listen to it again. I use to play this level over and over again just to listen to this beautiful piece.
We need more games like Medal of Honor Frontline and Rising Sun. Pieces like this really put the raw emotion into the game and made you feel how desperate the situation was. You don't get this with Call of Duty.
This is one of the reasons I enjoy Medal of Honour more than most other Shooters. While Call of Duty, Battlefield and Resistance are all more entertaining in terms of gameplay, I never really connected with the characters. Thus, cared less if they died. This franchise is one of four that's been able to make me feel more than rage for my defeats or joy for my victories.
I enjoy Call of Duty multiplayer (especially zombies), but that's about it. From Call of Duty 4 onwards, I didn't care for their campaigns. To me, it's just six hours of helicopter crashes and buildings falling over. Also, why continuously pick out Russians as the bad guys? What year is this, 1983?
You did get this with Call of Duty, but the last good COD game was United Offensive. It's been a steady death since, with the exception of COD4 (Modern Warfare). Every other COD after the first and its expansion didn't feel like COD, and I haven't played or bought the game since WAW, which was the last straw for me.
This mission really impacted me as a kid.. Going from abandoned house to abandoned house. Seeing the effect this war had on such a common looking neighborhood, all while you walk alone. Just you, your gun, and your wits as the desolate pristine neighborhood gives way to shelled out brick buildings, the sound of gunfire and the cries of those fighting and dying... Really hit me hard.. I've never been quite as immersed by a game since..
"Go! now! I've got you covered!" Jesus. the memories. the childhood memories! I was 11 when I first played this game. Back in 2006. I was just a kid...
Walking through that desolate city with nothing but you and your gun. Only a couple of soldiers to help you and they don't last. The feeling of isolation and everything resting on your shoulders was fantastic in this game. Where are these games now?
TotallyToonsTV Loaded onto the PS3! I'm not sure we will ever see games like this again, but if we do it will be fantastic. The amazing part is, the graphics weren't state of the art, most characters hardly spoke, and there wasn't a three page bio/back-story on those that did, but you felt a connection to many of the characters and small story moments anyway. The game didn't glorify war, or make speeches on its horrors, it just places you in an area with a mission and some nameless soldiers, and allows you fill in the rest.
TotallyToonsTV Am I the only one here who recently replayed this game and found the only thing really memorable about it was this song? I knew what I felt as a kid, and that was good, but I feel like another game that tightens things up from this would be far superior. the level this song was in was difficult, but I don't feel like it's a very fair difficult, and that it's more of a crap-shoot. Unless of course that's the entire idea, but, something still feels off about the level's music being somber, but not me feeling somber with it, instead I feel annoyed while trying to get to the end. I know for a fact the bullet spongy enemies have something to do with it at least. I'm just iffy and on the fence about the whole thing that maybe it's just that it's getting rather aged, again, going back to the idea of someone cleaning it up would make it significantly better for today.
+tysswe1 or "Rough Landing"....the sound of distant thunder, cows grazing in the pastures, chickens clucking around the barns, the locals cleaning and going about their daily routines as you and your squad run past in calculated urgency to face the Germans
To me it felt like different mini stages each getting harder and harder every time you go to the next area. Especially the one area with a bunch of Panzerschreck men
Respect to those poor red devils fighting an inevitable result. I wonder just how many examples of courage and sacrifice were made during those dark days in Arnhem, tales that will never be told.
Ryan Wunderlin CoD WW2 doesn't hold a flame to this masterpiece of a game... (My humble opinion by the way, if you think CoD WW2 is the great, all power to you, man)

God bless the paras...the civilians of Arnhem who were caught in the crossfire and all the polish and american airbourne boys who thought like animals for the freedom of europe along side
This is the level I cried upon once. I played it multiple times over the years, since it came out, but recently, when I puffed the dust over the PS2 and tried to play MoH front line, I had different view of life than before, when I was inexperienced in life... The music just broke me down.. The horrors of war, the loss, destroyed lives, destroyed homes, killed innocents, killed young soldier, for what cause ? That was horrible, the WW2 was horrible. The life is sometimes horrible. But we must push on. We must endure, we must bring justice and common sense even if it means destruction. Such horrible choices makes us unclean. Leaves us scarred for life, but with the hope that our children will not have to endure the same. It just broke me in to tears.
Its funny how i was only 6-7 when i played this. But as my father started to educate me on ww2 this was a game that he bought for me to play. I deeply honor his decision for picking this and risning sun as my first shooter games. Not only are they just golden in thw way of campaigns but the history it can teach a young mind is something that many might not see. Forever love to my father and this game ❤
I really wish that MoH would return to WWII. It was slightly overused after a while between them and CoD, and while both were great franchises for the Era, I really enjoyed MoH's story more. I remember the intro theme for Frontlines to storming Normandy, to riding and elephant in Rising Sun to find my brother. Even an HD remake of these would be remarkable. Unfortuantly, I dought many would agree.
Personally I think that new medal of honors have some of the greatest storylines I have ever seen in a game. I love how they do a tribute to the troops after every MoH. Though I do think that MoH should do another WWII game.
Well good thing they made a HD remake of Frontline. Rising Storm wasn't all that great...it had too many poor flaws like the AI and the campaign was very short.
You hit the nail on the head saying that WWII was overdone - even my teenage self became acutely aware of just how much WWII was being spammed a few years back. Unfortunately it's the same with 'modern combat' style settings - I remember when BF2 was still being developed; its contemporary setting was actually being considered risky/controversial! I think a return to WWII would be good, but first I'd like to see more Sci-Fi settings explored; Battlefield 2142 is in dire need of a remake and Titanfall is just boss.
Oh my Arnhem, oh my Arnhem. (Oh my Arnhem, oh my Arnhem.) My home Arnhem, oh. (My home Arnhem, oh.) Oh my Arnhem, oh my Arnhem. My home Arnhem, oh. Oh my Arnhem, oh my Arnhem. My home Arnhem, oh. Keep strong, Arnhem. Holds strong. (Hold strong, Arnhem. Hold strong.) Keep strong, Arnhem. Holds strong. Keep strong, Arnhem. Holds strong. Keep strong, Arnhem. Sing loud! Sing proudly! (Sing loud! Sing proud!) Oh my Arnhem, oh my Arnhem. My home Arnhem, oh. Keep strong, Arnhem. Sing loud! Sing proudly! Oh my Arnhem, oh my Arnhem. My home Arnhem, oh.
I decided to replay this game after... well, years. I had almost completely forgotten about this level, but when it came about, I was so excited to replay it. But it hit me during this: Imagine how the people who survived these situations felt: People you would think couldn't possibly die. They were too good, too durable, they had too much going for them. And yet you get to survive because you were a better shot. Maybe it was because you decided to stay behind covor a moment longer than you buddy. Just imagine having that running through your head while making your way out of the rubble... "And when he gets to heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: One more soldier reporting, Sir. I've served my time in hell."
@ApostleOfWonka rough translation is Oh my Arnhem (x2) My home Arnhem, oh Oh my Arnhem (x2) My home Arnhem, oh Oh my Arnhem (x2) My home Arnhem, oh Be Strong, Arnhem. x3 Stay Strong. Stay Strong Arnhem Sing loud Sing strong Oh my Arnhem (x2) My home Arnhem, oh Stay Strong Arnhem Sing loud Sing strong Oh my Arnhem (x2) My home Arnhem, oh
what those lyrics are real? I cant believe it. I was born 15km away from Arnhem and never knew this were the lyrics.. Maybe the italian producer tried for a different accent, Ive always loved this song and never knew this thank you.l
Brought this level and game into my history class when we were discussing history in the media. Got everybodies attention including the professor at my school that does veterans interviews. Dang level spooked everyone with this music in the backround.
I may have a certain obsession with the German military of WW2, but what I will never forget, are the chaps of the commonwealth. Canadians, British, and the Australians/New Zealanders deserve so much more respect then they get.
I didn't get the chance to play Frontline until like 2010-2011. I got in my freshman year of high school and started playing it because I wanted to see what FPS games used to be like a decade previously. And I loved it. Something about these older FPS games seems so much more atmospheric and demonstrative of war realities than modern shoot fest games.
I remember playing this on PS2, and hearing this with the crackle of gunfire in the distance and mortar rounds whistling in the air. All the while I was trying to keep all my allies alive on the hardest difficulty only to see them cut down by snipers, mowed down by an mg42, or blown up by a tank. Feels bad man :(
I'll never forget playing this game. This level with this music. Sniping that German on the rooftop and then hearing him scream as he falls to the ground against this music. Sums that war up in a nutshell. I'm so glad I didn't have to be there for real.
I agree. That is easily the most memorable part of that level for me. This track and "After the Drop" are Michael Giacchino's finest pieces of his career.
JagdPanther101 I could listen to any of this game's classical pieces and I would instantly recognize them. Yet listening to any of COD's songs, they are pure white noise to me and mean nothing, even though I played through all the games.
I see many comments from years ago, I feel to add my 2 cents. I'm the youngest of 3 brothers, all of whom were fascinated by world war 1 and 2. My eldest brother enlisted in the SA Army then later in the airforce. I too became obsessed with war history, the effects of lives taken, the aftermath on those who survived, families saved and not saved. When I played this game as a kid/teenager and more so the mission Arnham Knights, i felt fully immersed with this song playing in the background, it always touched me to my core. As I grew up I my interest just kept growing, from watching every movie, documentary, war footage, reading books that I consider myself a student of historical war. But today I am finally able to understand why i felt so moved by this song/anthem. Thank you to all who has been able to shed light on what the true meaning behind this song is. All brothers in arms, fallen and not, i will always remember. To give your life willingly. We should all really earn, the sacrifice so many made for us, to live in a free world. Thank you🫡🙏🏻
Lol just realized she's speaking dutch in this piece! (The accent isn't quite accurate lol) A translation would be: Oh my Arnhem Oh my Arnhem, My home Arnhem, oh Oh my Arnhem Oh my Arnhem, My home Arnhem, oh Hold strong, Arnhem. Hold strong! Hold strong, Arnhem. Hold strong! Hold strong, Arnhem. Hold strong! Hold strong, Arnhem. Sing loud! Sing proud! Oh my Arnhem, My home Arnhem, oh
I grew up playing this game on my Nintendo Gamecube, must have been less than 9 years old.. I'm 16 now, to think it was that long ago is just insane. There didn't need to be any action-packed Multiplayer experience, with people flying all over the place in Exo-suits. Just me spending hours playing the campaign over and over, and it never got old. I wish they'd remaster this for PC at least, just so that we can re-live the good ol' days. The FPS genre really needs another AAA WW2 - themed game soon.
I agree. This game was my thing in the early 2000s and the PS2 era. I would like to see a Korean War themed FPS sometime as well. Im surprised there isn't any by now..
I'm 17...when I hear the soundtracks to this game, I close my eyes, I am about 5-7 years old and sitting in front of my television. This brings me back easier than any picture, home recording, or memory ever will. This game wasn't just a game. It was beautiful. This was artistic integrity. We can't find anything like this anymore. You have to appreciate these things, because it isn't around anymore. Just hearing the classic GameCube startup music takes me right back to when I first got one at age 4. Man, what I would do and give to go back to those years...cheers!
Grew up always playing "army" with my friends, listening to this song, playing the missions and many other historic war games like this one...sung to the patriotic side I had as a child. Needless to say I'm enlisted now and probably deploying within the year after a few years in. Amazing how time changes but my mind never did, If you asked me as a kid what I wanted to do when I get older I'd tell you the same thing as I'm doing now. Beautiful how something like a video game or a song can bring out your inner patriotism. This song always brought a tear to my eye because it always made me think about those who fought before me, so that I could willingly enlist on my own free will and aspire to be as amazing as these men.
This always got me.. Arnhem Knights is probably one of the most savage, intense levels of the game, and it has beautiful, dramatic music. It works well.
I remember all the old medal of honor games. But when I think about them, this song and the level always come to mind. It's one of the best songs in a game ever.
It's finals week. I'm sick as a dog, staring down three finals and a paper and this music pops into my head. I guess my subconscious considers this a desperate, losing fight...
Unfortunately, Lt. Patterson, our boys are in the same fix all across the line. Hang in there, Jimmy. Do not, under any circumstances, give Jerry the satisfaction of watching you crumble. Good luck, Lieutenant!
The Mission in where you help the WWI veteran fight in his back yard made me cry every time.. In these Dark times as we rest on the brink of global war let us remember the costs of the wars bygone.. We deserve peace on Earth.
@@mikehamilton646 at one point in the mission when your transporting a captured German medical truck there's an old man, the ww1 vet, who takes a shotgun out of the shed in his back yard and helps you fight the Germans. Sadly he is killed by a sniper moments later.
I used to play this level over and over, or just clear out a quiet corner to listen to the song mixed with the rest of the war going off in the distance.
Even today, I enjoy this game more than any modern shooter. The missions were superb, the plot was outstanding, and the music was amazing. My Dad and I use to play this all the time. Our favorite track was "Escaping Gotha". This music brings back so many memories.
I love watching these videos. I used to think heros didn't exist, but then I was lucky enough to go to Arnhem. Everyone should go at least once in their life.

Fun Fact: A snippet of this plays in Medal of Honor Airborne as you drop from the plane in one of the levels, I don't recall which level, but having played this game first, then hearing that snippet made me happy.
The sunken road part of the level between two houses where your allies are being shot. I remember just unleashing the BAR at the enemy whilst this song blared through the speakers. I was 13 when this game came out and I remember nearly being brought to tears with the realisation that this wasn’t a fiction game. But brave men really went through it. The song just captivates the emotion. Such sacrifice.
medal of honor frontline was the most emotional ww2 game ever I was 11 when it came out and all the music from this game was burnt in my memory the crys from the ai soldiers the old lady shaking why holding the broom the soldier hanging on the windmill dying it felt real the hole drama of the war was captured so well in this game more so then any other ww2 game
Sometimes I would kinda just roam around the map listening to this instead of actually playing the mission. It was almost eerie how quiet it would be listening to this but hearing the occasional German soldier yelling or shooting. I wish I could go back to those days.
I love this song. Makes me sad for those that lost their lives in violent warfare. I also feel emotionally connected with the song, like if i am a spirit, and this music has spiritual power in it.
Totally listening to this on my last day at work. COVID-19...who would’ve thought this would be happening on this day. Much love and prayers for everyone e-my heart weeps out for everyone, past and present. I hope we all find our eternal peace. RIP to those who have lost their lives and RIP to all of the people I’ve lost along the way. One day we will have our Nirvana.
Even though I was around 14 I remember I felt that playing through a FPS level with that soundtrack in the background was eerie. And today, 25 years later, I still clearly remember the 2 allied soldiers, the BAR, the ruines, the colors, I remember a lot about this level. All thanks to this track
Now I'm 18, I get all the references to countless films crammed into this game. One of the best PS2 games in my humble opinion and the best game of my childhood.
Man. This song. It actually made my eyes watery. No track has managed to do this before. I'm... I feel bad, for every man that died fighting for justice. I feel bad for not being able to retribute...
Man before COD it was MOH. F in the chat for all those years of memories. This game will be like a sibling to me. It was always there to play everyday after school.
I feel the same way. It brought feelings of joy gameplaywise and sadness historywise at the same time. None of the games at the time did capture the feel of the WW to the young public. It still is awesome to this day.
I still couldn't get the enjoyment out of all the PS3 Call of duties, Medal of Honors and Battlefield games packed together as I did this game! As a child when I played this it use to be so fun and the best part was you were learning about all these battles. I have no clue how any game developers now could beat these old Medal of Honor games!
14 years ago, and we still come back to this. "Just a game", right?

Captain Fordo The two best games are the medal of honor and the socom games. Wish they made more games like them
I enjoy Call of Duty multiplayer (especially zombies), but that's about it.
CptSchmidt never heard og united offensive, to be honest, what's it about?
This mission really impacted me as a kid.. Going from abandoned house to abandoned house. Seeing the effect this war had on such a common looking neighborhood, all while you walk alone. Just you, your gun, and your wits as the desolate pristine neighborhood gives way to shelled out brick buildings, the sound of gunfire and the cries of those fighting and dying... Really hit me hard.. I've never been quite as immersed by a game since..
It's strange listening to this from my room in Arnhem. Very good piece.
"Go! now! I've got you covered!"
Jesus. the memories. the childhood memories!
TotallyToonsTV And the sound of distant gunfire. This was magical to play as a kid.

Have you ever played Battlefield 1?
I was wounded in the Great War
I still wonder what it was all for
I show no scars or broken skin
The wounds are all deeply within
I saw comrades big and small
I saw some stand, I saw some fall
Some by rifle, some by bayonet
Those scenes I never will forget
I saw men as I went passed
Some were dead some knew it was there last
For some there was no future only past
Some never knew they had been gassed
Some hung on a barbed wire line
For they too had run out of time
Others had done the best they could
Lying in a pool of blood
I saw men kneeling as though in prayer
Asking God for another day
I saw men embrace each other
For they fought as a band of brothers
amen

This is and probably still is the best WW2 FPS ever made.
Ryan Wunderlin CoD WW2 doesn't hold a flame to this masterpiece of a game...
(My humble opinion by the way, if you think CoD WW2 is the great, all power to you, man)
@ Cpt. Cartman I like Moh1 and Underground much more, but you are right with this opinion
Wunzy Gaming doesn’t COD WW2 kind of copy saving private ryan?
The bots in this are smarter than most CoD players! Fucking epic ww2
COD ww2 is just full of historical inaccuracies that drive me crazy, so much to the point where I don't want to touch it.

This was pretty much the most dramatic level of any game (war or otherwise) that I have ever played. :')
A time when war games were still humanizing and not stultifying...
+Ghost Crossbow Indeed.
Fuck man, this comment hits hard right now
😮 great comment
Its funny how i was only 6-7 when i played this. But as my father started to educate me on ww2 this was a game that he bought for me to play. I deeply honor his decision for picking this and risning sun as my first shooter games. Not only are they just golden in thw way of campaigns but the history it can teach a young mind is something that many might not see. Forever love to my father and this game ❤

Im here to cry again lol. Just like I did 20 years ago the first time playing.
It is sad that it is that way, most people are stupid nowadays Im afraid.
TheKingraptor724 Hm, couldnt agree more'
Personally I think that new medal of honors have some of the greatest storylines I have ever seen in a game.
I remember muting this song when i was younger. Combined with all those British Paras dying around me, it made me too sad.
I remeber muting the sound effects and voices, and turning the music louder!
***** lookout, we got a music connoisseur here.
Jack Murphy haha lool.
what's so funny?
Paras never die. They just return to Hell and regroup.
This is by far my favorite track in the soundtrack and maybe in any game or WWII film ever. Band Of Brothers is second in that category.

Brought this level and game into my history class when we were discussing history in the media. Got everybodies attention including the professor at my school that does veterans interviews. Dang level spooked everyone with this music in the backround.
Michael Giacchino is a fucking boss. Next to Zimmer and William's, he's had the best career as a composer

I may have a certain obsession with the German military of WW2, but what I will never forget, are the chaps of the commonwealth. Canadians, British, and the Australians/New Zealanders deserve so much more respect then they get.
Tomorrow marks 75 years since the war in Europe ended rest in peace all the souls who died on both sides ❤️
BassTrombone95 i got this game in like 2002 on ps2 like when it was still fairly new, gosh i remember how hard it was at first
I remember playing this on PS2, and hearing this with the crackle of gunfire in the distance and mortar rounds whistling in the air.
(The accent isn't quite accurate lol) A translation would be:

Hold strong, Arnhem. Hold strong!
Hold strong, Arnhem. Hold strong!

Beautiful music. Awesome game. Makes me shed a tear just listening to it. Wish games were more passionate, just like the old days.
Im surprised there isn't any by now..
im in the same boat as you pal :D
I had this game on GameCube and later for PS2. I bought this game for the Xbox to play on my Xbox 360 and I got hit with so much nostalgia
This game came out in 2002.... wtf were u doing playing it? You were 1 year old!

But brave men really went through it.
The song just captivates the emotion.
Such sacrifice.

The music sweats the horrors of WW2. It's very deep. When I hear it, I can feel a sample of all the pain caused by this war.
Even though I was around 14 I remember I felt that playing through a FPS level with that soundtrack in the background was eerie. And today, 25 years later, I still clearly remember the 2 allied soldiers, the BAR, the ruines, the colors, I remember a lot about this level. All thanks to this track
