Crawfish are big business here in South Louisiana. They are sold live in 45 Lb. sacks and restraunts sell them 3 pounds at a time boiled in highly seasoned water. Crawfish season usually runs from February to early June.
I recently saw a dead crayfish by a lake in Bradford ( Horton Bank country park.). Looked as thought a bird had smashed its shell open. How do they get to a lake?
No it wouldn't because the traps have to be a specific size with a opening of smaller than 95mm to make sure you do t accidentally trap any other animals.
Brilliant, need to get myself one of those nets I think and get some fishing done, I love langoustines, prawns, crayfish .. lobster when I'm feeling rich 😋... to catch these wild and have a feast with some garlic and lemon 🍋 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I go crayfishing almost everyday, I’ve never been told about a licence! I only catch signal crayfish so maybe there isn’t a license needed for those. I catch them with my hands instead of a trap.
Jason Woodcock Well I live around the West Yorkshire Airedale area, and there are many of them round here, but any sort of cold, shallow ish beck should be fine.
I was shocked when I learned you do in fact need a license to catch and kill an invasive species... Big government will stop at nothing to justify itself.
I'm pretty sure the license is just for trapping, if not then I'm wrong, either way it's one that makes sense given they carry that disease that can be transferred by some irresponsible bloke with a net, plus traps don't choose what gets in them so what if they kill uk species
Guys go to Russia in summer , on a market you can pay for them around 350 rubbles which is 3.50£ per kg or many restaurants in south part of Russian offering cooked crayfish not expensive too.
Callum Yeah you should kill them tbh Mate, our native crayfish are much smaller and very rare nowadays. Sounds brutal but stab them in the head and chuck em bk in rate it’s good ground bait and a win for the ecosystem. I’m seeing a lot less this year... but still “slot the bastard’s “ .
Try behind Sawston in Cambridgeshire between whittleford and Sawston. The river there is full of them, no waiting really, anytime between may and September you can catch tons, heck I catch some by just wading down river
Do they carry disease? I think I remember reading somewhere about them carrying worms and disease. If not I would love to get my hands on some! I've always wanted to know how they taste. Does anyone have experience with these?
@@ra7238 If a bailiff came about he'd tell him that the trap is illegal and poses a threat to other wildlife such as otters and water voles, and ask if he has a (free) license for that stretch. Because they are a highly invasive non-UK species that will eat everything else and destroy the habitat they are in. Once they have cleared out all the other aquatic animals (including fish) they then start eating each other.
The openings are far too wide. That's a danger to other native wildlife like otters. Just cos you're painting something like this out doesn't mean you are a Karen jeez. No reason not to have a licence as they are free and tbh I doubt the bloke in the video wants to hurt otters either. Just an accident
Some rules are Orwellian. Why would anyone police a thin like that? They do with anglers I think because it's more of an obvious and popular hobby. But poaching kray fish? Nah, take em home and breed them.

This looks great but how many uses would you get before its torn up and worn? Would a lobster pot work as good?

Damn …. Me is like give us some baby lobbys son

Where's this? Or point me out some good places.
Anywhere near Sheffield to catch them?
Good video. Cheers.
how do u dispatch them mate?
in the freezer for 30 mins before they go in the pot is the most humane way.
You need a license to fish or catch crayfish in the uk!! Can you believe that??? A licence

Jason Woodcock I know this may be a shock but in my local river where children swim and have fun, I caught 16 cray fish in one day.

Is that classed as a net or a trap? Fancy a go
Oh, wow.. come get crayfish from me..😁

Anyone in the UK managed to trap crayfish this year. I know it’s not peak season yet but .. none whatsoever.
I had 3 fishing on maggot today but I put them back cause never caught one before and did not know you was supposed too kill them

Down river from Llangollen apparently, leave some for me 😂
No bait??
I thought there where two different types of crayfish one you can and can’t eat
Native white-clawed crayfish are protected by law.
I caught 3 today on river Don fishing on maggot I never have caught one before and didn't know you was not meant too not put that back in
same

They are fine for human consumption. When cooked well they taste like lobster
You need to keep them alive until it's time to cook.
👌 as always 🦞🦞🦞 🤤
Than an illegal crayfish trap EA caught you with that you’d get nicked

I caught a ccrayfish with bare hands
But absolutely delicious to eat!
fishing is not a sport, its a hobby, check the videos out. Don't forget a good walk
Are they in the mersey 🤣🤣🤣

It's illgal to catch crayfish without a licence and the trap you are using is also illegal.

you really shouldn't touch them with your hands
Those traps are not legal. Dangerous to Otters etc as the entrance holes are too big.
The trap is illegal and also illegal to remove signal crayfish from the site of capture while still alive. Have to be dispatched on the river bank.
look at you doing the nation a great service

Should be alive at point of cooking. If dead they could be decaying already.Bacteria grows quickly on dead things.
Disgusting tf
