The battle of Raate Road was part of WInter War, the Soviet forces tried to get all the way to Oulu (on the Western coast of Finland) trough a single road to cut Finland into 2 parts. They got stuck on the road with kilometers of equipment and soldiers which were mostly moved down by Finns or taken as prisoners.
Korsuorkesteri is one of the best modern war music bands. Really popular in Finland. We always listen to them when we drink beer in the sauna at our cottage.
There were several significant Battles fought which defined the war and fate of Finland, many of those ended in severe defeats for the Ruskies... Some of the best known were Battle of Pelkosenniemi in Lapland, the continuous battle front at the Kollaa River (that's where Simo Häyhä was stationed) and battles at Taipale.
In the first waves of the WW2, the Winter War in Finland started in November 1939 by Soviet's fake provoked attack to Finland. In those days, volunteer soldiers from many countries came to Finland's aid. Even Italians, we have a soldier from Italy never to return to his country...❤
that road is familiar, I have visited the area and in the military museum, which is located along that road. there is also a mass grave of fallen Russians made in the swamp along that road, along that road you can still find materials from the war that are made of metal, if you come to Finland you should visit Suomussalmi where that road is.
We must remember that tens of thousands of these killed in Suomussalmi/Raate was actually Ukrainians, sent by the Russians from Moscow. My grandfather fought this battle and he said that it was very brutal and throughout the war he thought the Ukrainians where the best fighters of the Red Army, I'm not surprised at all, and the Soviets was totally crushed, by the Finns. I'm proud of having Ukrainians as brothers and sisters today and what happened during ww2 is all forgotten and everything is the Kreml to blame, as usual 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇫🇮❤️❤️🇫🇮🍻👍💪
@@hienosaatoa I blame everything on Soviet Union, and they started WW2, toghether with the Nazis (Molotov /Ribbentrop pact) and they are so rediculus and hypocritical today in Russia, because they see themselves as victims of WW2 😂😂😂.... They don't have no parades for the dead soldiers of 1939 to 1940 either, so they died in vain for the USSR ...If they all of a du, would want to celabrate these aswell, they would have to explain what happened, and that would be too embarrassing for them, because they where soooooo pro Nazis in Kreml... But Stalin was also a prostitute 👌

"Eldakanjärven jää" and "kauan on kärsitty" is a winter war songs that you should react. And also "Evakon laulu" with english lyricks. And if you want to see, how finns react for that song still today, react "evakon laulu toni wirtanen and jannika (vain elämää)" but there is no english lyricks in that version.
Mauro actually did reaction video to different version of Evakon Laulu two weeks ago, but I think the version by Jannika and Toni is worth a revisit. It’s a beautiful performance.
YLE archieve has all of this great old wartime footage. Its a national archieve since YLE is paid by tax money, kind of like the BBC in UK. Some really good stuff there.
Dont remember have ya check yet video about Aimo Koivunen :D If not you should check fat electrical - Winter Soldier OD's on METH (cant remember video title right but you should find it :D)
Raatteentie (or Raattee's road) was only one of the major ways USSR tried to invade via. It basically the thinnest part of Finland and the USSR mission was to split Finland half by going to the city Oulu

Silmien väliin is also a good song. I recommend
The one from "Åttopojat" to be specific. I like old music but the modern version is better for reactions.
Thanks Mauro❤ it's so nice that you are checking Finnish history also through music 😊👍

I'd entirely blame Finland and, as Stalin says, its European teachers - England, France, Germany... this was a necessary offensive.
@@hienosaatoa 😂😂😂... Of course you do 😂😂

"Maantie on kova kävellä" is pretty fashionable after appearing on anime and pretty simple old military song. Easy to follow.
