It's weird to see how many companies ripped off the Felicia Leatherwood detangling brush. Ms. Leatherwood was the black woman who created the separating brush design. Her brush is a sturdier and much better quality.
Yup. @@jessicabrooks5530 is right. Believe it or not, y'all, that was a brush for horse hair. She was just clever enough about 10 years ago to realize that if it worked for the knots on manes and tails, it should work for our hair and put her name on it, lol.
I personally like to use my fingers first to get the big knots out, then follow up gently with the detangler. It takes time but it's very worth it for my needs 🤗
For me, finger detangling never removes all the shed hair while using a brush or comb it does. But I only finger detangle unless I’m blow drying my hair and prepping for that and straightening like once a year, and a handful of times for blow drying. So then, I’m still pulling out old shed hair trapped in my hair and the few times I use a comb it looks like more shedding than what it really is. And I’ve found that finger detangling gives me better twist out results bc combs/brushes “brush/comb out” my natural curl pattern and give me poofy, afro-y, undefined hair which only come back into coils/waves when I shampoo. So just water or a leave-in won’t define my hair like that. It’s a whole thing 😂🤷🏾♀️ but works for me.
It's funny I have opposite experience. I have all the type 4 curls on my hair and it looks good in a wash n go but for a twistout I actually have to brush the curls out for it to look even and good, other wise the curls look not uniformed and messy. With some parts curling and others not.
Good suggestion! I tried it vertically, but my hair isn't fully saturated. I really wanted to use this detangler in the way I would naturally use it. I've seen it work for some people with super wet hair SOAKED in conditioner.
sadonomo my hair is very similar to Toya’s and it works well for my hair using it during conditioner detangling other than that I wouldn’t use it, it will take your hair out if used on unsaturated hair. It’s just the best way to use it on our hair.
I can't detangle my hair while standing in the shower nor can alot of p. Just doesn't work for me. Don't have the time, patience, or money(water bill) for all that. I prefer to sit down, with a spray bottle, where I'm comfortable and watching TV while detangling my hair and take my time. It's better on my nerves and my wallet 🤣🤷🏾♀️
I bought the real EZ detangler brush and its the best thing ever. The bar on the real brush does not come off like the one used in the video. I do believe the brush works better on hair that is wet. I love using it in the shower on wash days. Its a quick and easy way for me to detangle and it never snags in my hair. obviously fingers are the best detangler, but for girls like me who don't have the patience, this brush is a lifesaver! It even managed to detangle my mom's hair, which was insanely tangled 😄 As always, thanks for taking the time to make these reviews and educational videos!
Na I got the green from aliexpress a d my bar is very sturdy. I think the green one from everywhere is sturdy because I've definitely heard people complain that they either didn't get the bar with Ez's or that didn't stay or that they were ripped off by EZ. WITH SOMEONE EVEN ENTERING MY DM WHEN I COMMENTED ON THEIR PAGE. She also didnt put the bar properly into the holes
I have had my brush for almost 2 year and it works really well (bar doesn’t come off at all) on my 4c hair. I section off my hair and brush it while it is wet I have minimal hair loss using it.
I LOVE this brush soooo much... I recently purchased mine on amazon for 10 bucks those Instagram ads are a rip off! But this brush has changed my life! I dont hate washing anymore my hair gets thoroughly detangled. But there is a specific way you have to use it. And I feel if you dont use it that way 1st youll hate it...lol .... put the little back bit in the first set of holes on top, (make sure its. Secure inside the holes or it will move around) I feel you get more control that way. Make sure your hair is wet then brush your hair vertically on your section starting from the ends and moving up to roots then once you moved towards your scalp turn the brush sideways and continue to the tangle. That method has turned my to tangling time from 10 minutes to maybe 3 per section! (And I personally only detangle in the shower) the brush is amazing, my hair is ridiculously thick and now that its getting long this is the only brush ive used thus far that can get through my hair with ease...I had my mom get one for her and my nieces and she loves it 2 LOL
Agree with everything you said! I don’t use mine all the time but I really like it and got good results. Once I properly secured the clip, it was easy to use. At least for me, detangling in the shower saves a lot of time & damage.
I tried that brush, it pulled at my hair. Needless to say, it went in the trash. I've recently purchase a brush from a Black owned company called Kazmalaje....their brush is 4 type hair heaven!
I found myself falling for the hype and getting the brush but I saw way more shedding using the brush so it was a no. The crazy thing is after 7 years of having natural hair, I've been finger detangling on a regular and I love it. It takes a bit more time but the shedding has lessened tremendously.
The Felisha Leatherwood brush is what I first tried 2 years ago. Still using it. And then i started seeing the brush you're using. Never bought any other brush since Felisha Leatherwood brush. I really like it😁

Yeah I bought into the social media hype of this brush too, especially with the TONS of positive videos I found. I didn’t like the sound it made when it was going though my hair, even with the stabilizer piece in. And I think it took longer to detangle than using my regular wide tooth comb, plus there were more hairs in the brush afterwards. So in summary, that brush is a no for me dawg
My Sister bought the EZ brush for me; a Christmas gift. I rarely use the brush (possibly every other month) but when I do, my hair is very damp with water and conditioner because my coils are very tight. I also section my hair, but in 8 or 16 sections due to my hair thickness. I agree finger detangling is easier for me also, but I believe it is because I do not thoroughly detangle my hair as the brush. I love watching your cheerful videos. 😊 Thank you. We appreciate you!
Love your vids I am 16 so I love my hair and how I tend to detangle it . I also have 4c hair .... i rather use my hand because I feel more comfortable using my hand than the detangling brush 😍❤

I don’t finger detangle because I’m too heavy handed & impatient. I purchased the FW brush and love it. Not into dupes for FUBU products if theres a FUBU option.
I agree. I’ve also found that I get better definition AND less frizz in my twist-out when I finger detangle. I have the EZ brush, I think it’s probably great for type 3 and maybe it DOES work for some type 4’s as well. However In almost 7 years, and after trying 4 different types brushes, natural wood combs, wide toothed plastic and yadda-yadda.....my fingers are the best tool I have. They have NEVER destroyed or distorted my beautiful, mixed curl pattern. They don’t mercilessly RIP my hair from my scalp. It’s like this free, magic tool that I never knew I had!! Lol
Finger detangling takes too long for me but I do finger detangle when I’m in a hurry. The band on the back should snap into the holes on the back of the brush. Bottom line it’s all about patience when it comes down to detangling hair. Thanks for sharing. I love your energy.
If you finger detangle by default and want to try a tool with a similar effect I highly highly HIGHLY recommend you try the Kazmaleje Paddle Comb. It was created by a black owned company & is by far the best detangler I've ever tried for general detangling - if I want a smoother detangle to prep for blowdrying or a slick & smooth style I'll follow up with my tangle teezer supreme. Hope this helps someone 😊
The EZ detangler original works for me and my daughter and we have different textures. The bar is supposed to snap into the grooves to stay secure. I make sure my hair is very damp and with conditioner and sectioned before detangling. Try it again to see if this works otherwise finger detangling works well for you.
Hi Latoya! I enjoy watching your videos. I have the detangler brush and I like it. But for my hair I have to finger detangle first using any tool. I also want to point out the reason the bar kept falling off is because it's not in the right place. On the back of your brush there are two rows of holes. Those holes are used to keep the bracket in place. Whenever you hear a click, you know you done it right ❤
If you haven't tried the Felicia Leatherwood brush you're in for a treat. This brush will have you saying "Hey Felicia and bye to knock offs. This brush gets through my thick hair so easily; I love it and would recommend it to anyone. I do see the similarities between her brush and the new brushes. Anyways finger detangling still works great for me too. It's alot easier to feel tiny knots and tangles. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion with us.
The denmin was horrible on my hair so I went to fingers. I got a Felicia Leatherwood end of last year and love. I use both when I wash my hair. I thought hers was the original then these came🤷🏾♂️ Bottom line, your hair is gorgeous💚 great video
I quite like the EZ Detangler. I use it mainly to detangle while washing when saturated with conditioner and it definitely gives us a head start post wash. I've used the EZ Detangler on my hair (4C) (which is shorter), however mainly use it on my daughter's 4B which is alot longer than mine. Wet we use it without the additional piece, however, if we use it I find it best stays put when locked into the grooves and when we push it down closer to the handle. If I use it on "dry hair" I do make sure my daughter's hair is damp usually if she wants to change styles and I've found that I'm able to detangle her hair better using it rather than comb/regular brush - less complaining. Holding her hair above where I'm brushing helps and moving up to her roots. It is by far the easiest brush EVER to clean.
I had the same problem with the little piece that came with it. Like you without it, it was to flimsy and I didn’t like that. For me the Felicia Leatherwood is a better choice. Thanks for sharing your review!
I use when I deep conditioner with plenty of product. Wouldn’t do with a little leave in. Finger detangling is best in that case for me. Love this brush flexibility. Leatherwood torn my hair out. “To each his own I guess.” Love your videos AND up to 65K...go gurl! Congrats 🎉
I do both. If I'm wearing a wash and go, I'll finger detangle only for better curl definition. For other styles, I'll finger detangle first then run my bootleg felicia Leatherwood brush through it to get all the shed hair out.
I don't like brushes very much because I feel you on the ripping your hair out thing lol but finger detangling just doesn't get all the shed hair out for me. So I compromise by doing a finger detangle first and then I go through with a brush for a smoother finish. That smooth finish is important to me, my wash n go isn't as defined and my twist-outs look shabby whenever I only finger detangle lol XD

I bought the EZ Detangler and threw away that little piece that holds the sections together because I thought it was just part of the packing. 😂. Even without the piece, it worked really well for for my Uber Thick hair, but I used it in the shower with Giovanni 50/50 conditioner on soaking wet hair. So it could be the amazing conditioner that was the key, but I know the combination of Giovanni 50/50 Balancing Calming conditioner with that brush was incredible. I bought several brushes for myself and family. BUT after watching a recent video of yours where you talked about finger detangling, I thought I would be patient and give it a try. I have been doing that for a couple of weeks now and I’m even more amazed. So far finger detangling wins hands down! 👍🏽. But when I need to detangle quickly or if a need a brush for extra smoothing, I will definitely use the EZ Detangler with that conditioner. Thanks for encouraging finger detangling. I think you really create a more caring relationship with your hair when you finger detangle. But I’m also one of those people that can’t stop touching my hair. I love the springiness of my coils and almost absent mindedly touch them constantly. Is it just me?
I will have to say after seeing your review I can say this is one of the cleanest brushes out there. Also with seeing how the Felicia Leatherwood brush is design I’m sure people that own that brush can say the same thing. I do like this brush but like the tangle teaser slightly better.
I just bought this brush for my daughters to try. Paid $14 for two. I have a Felicia leatherwood brush and it works great! I will make sure to tell them to saturate their hair with conditioner and water. Like I do with the FL.
I tried that detangler and I didn’t like it. It was too flexible for me. I’ve used a Wet Brush, Pattern Beauty Brush and Denman, but my FAVORITE tools of the trade are the Goody Texture Handled Wide Tooth Comb, which is what I start off with, the BeHairFul wetbrush (this brush is Bae) I was so surprised at how well it worked. Best wet brush EVER!!!!! Though they say you can use it on dry hair, but I don’t detangle on dry hair. Works effortlessly, no snags. Last but not least the new Pattern Pick. Freaking amazing!!!!! Long teeth with a little bit of flexibility and ergonomically perfect. Yeah took me 3 years to find them all but we’re here now and it’s a wrap.
I finger detanglè pre-poo, and i use a wide tooth comb with my oķra juice detangler and i smooth my hair for twisting with my tangle free brush. My shedding isnt frightening, so i'll stick to that regime for now.
I've broken a comb or two in my day, but I have the EZ Detangler and I love it. Like someone else said earlier, finger detangling has less shedding, but the way my patience is set up... 😄 The EZ Detangler brush is the truth. Not much shedding and works well. I bought my mom and cousin each one as gifts also.
I hadn’t heard of Felicia Leatherwood until after I purchased the EZ Detangler. The EZ is a god send. I detangle on wet hair with conditioner. Bc Felicia is black, I’ll give it a purchase to see how it does. But the EZ is the truth, I wont detangle my hair with anything else. Also the one I purchased did not have the clamp on the back, thank goodness!
I love finger detangling and I do it a couple times a month but I can't do it exclusively cause I start to notice shed hair knotted at the ends of my hair. My technique is probably not the best maybe that's why Also to get good results for my twistouts, I need to use a comb. But I can finger detangle when doing a wash n go and it'll still look bomb.
Like another commenter said...I have the real EZ Detangler and the extra thing that comes with the brush to hold the teeth of the brush apart doesn’t pop off. There’s actually small holes on the backside of the brush that snap the piece in place. If yours doesn’t come with that but you like the brush I’d definitely say try out the real one 😬
Thanks for the feedback! I saw holes in mine as well, but for some reason I couldn’t get it to stay in place. I’m thinking of trying again in the shower next time with a bunch of conditioner. Maybe that will help. 🤷🏾♀️
I'm a bad natural. I detangle in the shower with wet hair and a traditional wide tooth comb. I just don't have the patience for finger detangling and I don't consider the Denman a detangling device. For me it's a styling tool to use on detangled hair.
Hi LaToya, I’m all for experimenting but be careful, brushes are scary for my 4c hair. Based on my limited research, a major worry are mid-strand splits and split ends.
I used my felicia Leatherwood brush while deep conditioning but now I only use it before I style my hair. I use a shampoo comb for my pre poo and deep conditioner.
I’ve been natural for 2 1/2 years and felecia leatherwood is by far the best detangling tool for all hair types and I’ve used them all it’s the only tool I’d use instead of my fingers and honestly I get more breakage from my fingers than the tool!
After watching many of your videos I decided to finger detangle instead of a comb. I want to say thank you!!!!!! The amount of breakage with my fingers is significantly less. Plus I like that I can feel the tangles/knots and gently pull it apart. Once I use my fingers i still go over it with a wide tooth just to make sure all shed hair is gone, but even then the breakages is significantly less :). Im transitioning and decided I didn't want the big chop, but grow my new growth as long as I feel comfy before cutting off the relax ends. This method retains the relax ends better. P.S. That rake comb seems rough. No thanks...lol. i stick with my fingers as well.

Can you talk about, How about time spent on detangling? How do you find your twist out comes out on the two different sides of your head? Or whether it’s more define because of the brush or with your fingers
Did you just sing "Let's Get Physical" by Olivia Newton-John?!?! 😂😅 I love it. Okay. I have two of these brushes. You have to be soaking wet with alot of product to reduce the shedding. I think we 4C's should stay away from this as our main means for detangling our hair every session. I use it on my grandbabies when they stay over, 2 girls and 2 boys, whose hair types range from 3A/3B to 4A. They don't mind and they're all tender headed with density and length.

I don't know how many people are aware of this or not, but that concept of a flexible brush was developed by a company that creates products for horses for the upkeep of their manes. Not sure when Felicia Leatherwood and others co-opted the idea, but that style of brush has been around for ages.
I think It depends on the purpose & hair type maybe? for 3 months straight I did finger-detangling and my hair fell tf out. I have to use a gentle detangle brush & wide tooth comb. My hair has grown back since I switched back to detangling tools. Also, I never brush/comb on dry hair; always has to be damp-wet
This is a octopus comb. You have been doing it with your fingers and hair has been looking great. Leave this octopus alone:) I almost brought one too😂😂😂
The way I see some ppl using that brush, it look like they be having a hard time and the comb look to be getting stuck at the ends of their hair, YET they say it's good and it's just gliding thru their hair when clearly I see it getting stuck at the ends😒🤐
I finger detangle first and then use a comb to ensure I get all the shed hairs out. If I don't remove all the shed hairs I end up with knots in my fine hair during the styling process.
The best way to judge the efficiency of the brush is to use for a while and see how your hair reacts. Brushes gets all the shed hair that is tangled up with other hairs, while the fingers only them some of them . So this comparison don’t do much for me 😭
I tried the Denman and it pulled too much hair out. I have the Felicia Leatherwood brush and it doesn't break off as much hair as the Denman but it still feels like it pulls out hair. I use my fingers initially and then a wide tooth comb. I use the Leatherwood brush only when I am twisting my hair up so they can have a smooth finish.
Use it vertical on the tip of your hair first. Then horizontal on the root.i love this one. I use this color. This brush is best on saturated hair with a conditioner I think. I have tried to detangle with a leave in that has slip but my hair got ripped off
My trichologists hate brushes. So... I'm sticking to my seamless combs. If I need to brush, I use the tangle teezer or wet brush for fine, thin and fragile hair. My strands are too fine to use fingers only. I can't feel all of the shed hair.
Can you teach us how to detangle with our finger. I keeps breaking my hair when I try to detangle with my fingers. Also, you do not need the bar when using the brush. I have thrown away the bar a long time ago. Do it vertically without the bar, there’s less breakage and the brush is more flexible without it. Plus, you have to use conditioner (lots of it) in your hair before using the brush anyways. I use it to detangle my hair during the conditioning process and I barely see any hairs. I see you don’t have conditioner in your hair at the time of detangling.
Do you have a video explaining the difference in Creams compared to gels? I even found a holding yogurt. HMM. I guess I am don’t know if one is healthy than the other. If I should stay away from both.

No I don't have a video like that. I've never tried her brush. I'm not really a detangling brush person. BUT I have linked hers on Amazon for those of us that want to support black owned.
Bought a similar one in color orange for 9.99 on Amazon after succumbing to YT hype. It's not so bad when I detangle my hair in sections. But for real the sound of the comb without the clip sounds like a toy hand clapper like you did at 0.36 😜
The only time a comb or brush goes through my type 4 hair is when I’m getting a silk press or I’m blow drying it. Any other time im using my hands only lol

PLEASE compare less expensive deep conditioner with higher end. I really like the tgin honey mask but at $18 a jar, there has to be a better way! 😄

Make sure your hair is wet then brush your hair vertically on your section starting from the ends and moving up to roots then once you moved towards your scalp turn the brush sideways and continue to the tangle. That method has turned my to tangling time from 10 minutes to maybe 3 per section! (And I personally only detangle in the shower) the brush is amazing, my hair is ridiculously thick and now that its getting long this is the only brush ive used thus far that can get through my hair with ease...I had my mom get one for her and my nieces and she loves it 2 LOL

Agree with everything you said! I don’t use mine all the time but I really like it and got good results. Once I properly secured the clip, it was easy to use. At least for me, detangling in the shower saves a lot of time & damage.

I tried that brush, it pulled at my hair. Needless to say, it went in the trash. I've recently purchase a brush from a Black owned company called Kazmalaje....their brush is 4 type hair heaven!
I found myself falling for the hype and getting the brush but I saw way more shedding using the brush so it was a no. The crazy thing is after 7 years of having natural hair, I've been finger detangling on a regular and I love it. It takes a bit more time but the shedding has lessened tremendously.
The Felisha Leatherwood brush is what I first tried 2 years ago. Still using it. And then i started seeing the brush you're using. Never bought any other brush since Felisha Leatherwood brush. I really like it😁

Yeah I bought into the social media hype of this brush too, especially with the TONS of positive videos I found. I didn’t like the sound it made when it was going though my hair, even with the stabilizer piece in. And I think it took longer to detangle than using my regular wide tooth comb, plus there were more hairs in the brush afterwards. So in summary, that brush is a no for me dawg
My Sister bought the EZ brush for me; a Christmas gift. I rarely use the brush (possibly every other month) but when I do, my hair is very damp with water and conditioner because my coils are very tight. I also section my hair, but in 8 or 16 sections due to my hair thickness. I agree finger detangling is easier for me also, but I believe it is because I do not thoroughly detangle my hair as the brush. I love watching your cheerful videos. 😊 Thank you. We appreciate you!

I agree. I’ve also found that I get better definition AND less frizz in my twist-out when I finger detangle. I have the EZ brush, I think it’s probably great for type 3 and maybe it DOES work for some type 4’s as well. However In almost 7 years, and after trying 4 different types brushes, natural wood combs, wide toothed plastic and yadda-yadda.....my fingers are the best tool I have. They have NEVER destroyed or distorted my beautiful, mixed curl pattern. They don’t mercilessly RIP my hair from my scalp. It’s like this free, magic tool that I never knew I had!! Lol
Finger detangling takes too long for me but I do finger detangle when I’m in a hurry. The band on the back should snap into the holes on the back of the brush. Bottom line it’s all about patience when it comes down to detangling hair. Thanks for sharing. I love your energy.

If you finger detangle by default and want to try a tool with a similar effect I highly highly HIGHLY recommend you try the Kazmaleje Paddle Comb. It was created by a black owned company & is by far the best detangler I've ever tried for general detangling - if I want a smoother detangle to prep for blowdrying or a slick & smooth style I'll follow up with my tangle teezer supreme. Hope this helps someone 😊

The EZ detangler original works for me and my daughter and we have different textures. The bar is supposed to snap into the grooves to stay secure. I make sure my hair is very damp and with conditioner and sectioned before detangling. Try it again to see if this works otherwise finger detangling works well for you.

Hi Latoya! I enjoy watching your videos. I have the detangler brush and I like it. But for my hair I have to finger detangle first using any tool. I also want to point out the reason the bar kept falling off is because it's not in the right place. On the back of your brush there are two rows of holes. Those holes are used to keep the bracket in place. Whenever you hear a click, you know you done it right ❤

If you haven't tried the Felicia Leatherwood brush you're in for a treat. This brush will have you saying "Hey Felicia and bye to knock offs. This brush gets through my thick hair so easily; I love it and would recommend it to anyone. I do see the similarities between her brush and the new brushes. Anyways finger detangling still works great for me too. It's alot easier to feel tiny knots and tangles. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion with us.
The denmin was horrible on my hair so I went to fingers. I got a Felicia Leatherwood end of last year and love. I use both when I wash my hair. I thought hers was the original then these came🤷🏾♂️ Bottom line, your hair is gorgeous💚 great video

I quite like the EZ Detangler.
I use it mainly to detangle while washing when saturated with conditioner and it definitely gives us a head start post wash. I've used the EZ Detangler on my hair (4C) (which is shorter), however mainly use it on my daughter's 4B which is alot longer than mine. Wet we use it without the additional piece, however, if we use it I find it best stays put when locked into the grooves and when we push it down closer to the handle.
If I use it on "dry hair" I do make sure my daughter's hair is damp usually if she wants to change styles and I've found that I'm able to detangle her hair better using it rather than comb/regular brush - less complaining. Holding her hair above where I'm brushing helps and moving up to her roots. It is by far the easiest brush EVER to clean.
I had the same problem with the little piece that came with it. Like you without it, it was to flimsy and I didn’t like that. For me the Felicia Leatherwood is a better choice. Thanks for sharing your review!
I use when I deep conditioner with plenty of product. Wouldn’t do with a little leave in. Finger detangling is best in that case for me. Love this brush flexibility. Leatherwood torn my hair out. “To each his own I guess.” Love your videos AND up to 65K...go gurl! Congrats 🎉

I do both. If I'm wearing a wash and go, I'll finger detangle only for better curl definition. For other styles, I'll finger detangle first then run my bootleg felicia Leatherwood brush through it to get all the shed hair out.
I don't like brushes very much because I feel you on the ripping your hair out thing lol but finger detangling just doesn't get all the shed hair out for me. So I compromise by doing a finger detangle first and then I go through with a brush for a smoother finish. That smooth finish is important to me, my wash n go isn't as defined and my twist-outs look shabby whenever I only finger detangle lol XD
I have the complete opposite reaction to this brush. It detangles my hair in a flash and with less shed hair. This one looks extra flimsy, tbh.

I bought the EZ Detangler and threw away that little piece that holds the sections together because I thought it was just part of the packing. 😂. Even without the piece, it worked really well for for my Uber Thick hair, but I used it in the shower with Giovanni 50/50 conditioner on soaking wet hair. So it could be the amazing conditioner that was the key, but I know the combination of Giovanni 50/50 Balancing Calming conditioner with that brush was incredible. I bought several brushes for myself and family. BUT after watching a recent video of yours where you talked about finger detangling, I thought I would be patient and give it a try. I have been doing that for a couple of weeks now and I’m even more amazed. So far finger detangling wins hands down! 👍🏽. But when I need to detangle quickly or if a need a brush for extra smoothing, I will definitely use the EZ Detangler with that conditioner. Thanks for encouraging finger detangling. I think you really create a more caring relationship with your hair when you finger detangle. But I’m also one of those people that can’t stop touching my hair. I love the springiness of my coils and almost absent mindedly touch them constantly. Is it just me?
I will have to say after seeing your review I can say this is one of the cleanest brushes out there. Also with seeing how the Felicia Leatherwood brush is design I’m sure people that own that brush can say the same thing. I do like this brush but like the tangle teaser slightly better.
I just bought this brush for my daughters to try. Paid $14 for two. I have a Felicia leatherwood brush and it works great! I will make sure to tell them to saturate their hair with conditioner and water. Like I do with the FL.

I tried that detangler and I didn’t like it. It was too flexible for me. I’ve used a Wet Brush, Pattern Beauty Brush and Denman, but my FAVORITE tools of the trade are the Goody Texture Handled Wide Tooth Comb, which is what I start off with, the BeHairFul wetbrush (this brush is Bae) I was so surprised at how well it worked. Best wet brush EVER!!!!! Though they say you can use it on dry hair, but I don’t detangle on dry hair. Works effortlessly, no snags. Last but not least the new Pattern Pick. Freaking amazing!!!!! Long teeth with a little bit of flexibility and ergonomically perfect. Yeah took me 3 years to find them all but we’re here now and it’s a wrap.
Great vid! Looking at the difference in shed hair makes me want to experiment with finger detangling.
I finger detanglè pre-poo, and i use a wide tooth comb with my oķra juice detangler and i smooth my hair for twisting with my tangle free brush. My shedding isnt frightening, so i'll stick to that regime for now.
I prefer those little shampoo brushes to detangle my whole head. I also use a tangleteezer for Blown Dry hair

I've broken a comb or two in my day, but I have the EZ Detangler and I love it. Like someone else said earlier, finger detangling has less shedding, but the way my patience is set up... 😄 The EZ Detangler brush is the truth. Not much shedding and works well. I bought my mom and cousin each one as gifts also.
I used this with the Moisture Miracle Aloe and coconut water pre-poo (this provided the needed slip)...it was amazing

I hadn’t heard of Felicia Leatherwood until after I purchased the EZ Detangler. The EZ is a god send. I detangle on wet hair with conditioner. Bc Felicia is black, I’ll give it a purchase to see how it does. But the EZ is the truth, I wont detangle my hair with anything else. Also the one I purchased did not have the clamp on the back, thank goodness!

I love finger detangling and I do it a couple times a month but I can't do it exclusively cause I start to notice shed hair knotted at the ends of my hair. My technique is probably not the best maybe that's why
Also to get good results for my twistouts, I need to use a comb. But I can finger detangle when doing a wash n go and it'll still look bomb.
Like another commenter said...I have the real EZ Detangler and the extra thing that comes with the brush to hold the teeth of the brush apart doesn’t pop off. There’s actually small holes on the backside of the brush that snap the piece in place. If yours doesn’t come with that but you like the brush I’d definitely say try out the real one 😬

I'm a bad natural. I detangle in the shower with wet hair and a traditional wide tooth comb. I just don't have the patience for finger detangling and I don't consider the Denman a detangling device. For me it's a styling tool to use on detangled hair.

Hi LaToya, I’m all for experimenting but be careful, brushes are scary for my 4c hair. Based on my limited research, a major worry are mid-strand splits and split ends.

I used my felicia Leatherwood brush while deep conditioning but now I only use it before I style my hair. I use a shampoo comb for my pre poo and deep conditioner.
I’ve been natural for 2 1/2 years and felecia leatherwood is by far the best detangling tool for all hair types and I’ve used them all it’s the only tool I’d use instead of my fingers and honestly I get more breakage from my fingers than the tool!
I don't know but it kinda feels good to see that your hair tangles while combing and it can be a struggle too. I feel seen.
After watching many of your videos I decided to finger detangle instead of a comb. I want to say thank you!!!!!! The amount of breakage with my fingers is significantly less. Plus I like that I can feel the tangles/knots and gently pull it apart. Once I use my fingers i still go over it with a wide tooth just to make sure all shed hair is gone, but even then the breakages is significantly less :). Im transitioning and decided I didn't want the big chop, but grow my new growth as long as I feel comfy before cutting off the relax ends. This method retains the relax ends better.
P.S. That rake comb seems rough. No thanks...lol. i stick with my fingers as well.

Okay. I have two of these brushes. You have to be soaking wet with alot of product to reduce the shedding. I think we 4C's should stay away from this as our main means for detangling our hair every session. I use it on my grandbabies when they stay over, 2 girls and 2 boys, whose hair types range from 3A/3B to 4A. They don't mind and they're all tender headed with density and length.

I don't know how many people are aware of this or not, but that concept of a flexible brush was developed by a company that creates products for horses for the upkeep of their manes. Not sure when Felicia Leatherwood and others co-opted the idea, but that style of brush has been around for ages.
I think It depends on the purpose & hair type maybe? for 3 months straight I did finger-detangling and my hair fell tf out. I have to use a gentle detangle brush & wide tooth comb. My hair has grown back since I switched back to detangling tools. Also, I never brush/comb on dry hair; always has to be damp-wet

The way I see some ppl using that brush, it look like they be having a hard time and the comb look to be getting stuck at the ends of their hair, YET they say it's good and it's just gliding thru their hair when clearly I see it getting stuck at the ends😒🤐

I finger detangle first and then use a comb to ensure I get all the shed hairs out. If I don't remove all the shed hairs I end up with knots in my fine hair during the styling process.
The best way to judge the efficiency of the brush is to use for a while and see how your hair reacts. Brushes gets all the shed hair that is tangled up with other hairs, while the fingers only them some of them . So this comparison don’t do much for me 😭
I tried the Denman and it pulled too much hair out. I have the Felicia Leatherwood brush and it doesn't break off as much hair as the Denman but it still feels like it pulls out hair. I use my fingers initially and then a wide tooth comb. I use the Leatherwood brush only when I am twisting my hair up so they can have a smooth finish.
I bought a $1 tangle teaser dupe from the dollar store and it works 10 times better than this brush.

Use it vertical on the tip of your hair first. Then horizontal on the root.i love this one. I use this color. This brush is best on saturated hair with a conditioner I think. I have tried to detangle with a leave in that has slip but my hair got ripped off

My trichologists hate brushes. So... I'm sticking to my seamless combs. If I need to brush, I use the tangle teezer or wet brush for fine, thin and fragile hair. My strands are too fine to use fingers only. I can't feel all of the shed hair.

Finger detangling doesn't work for me....but I also don't comb hair dry. For me, dry combing is a big no no. Once my hair is dry...I gotta let it fly.
Can you teach us how to detangle with our finger. I keeps breaking my hair when I try to detangle with my fingers. Also, you do not need the bar when using the brush. I have thrown away the bar a long time ago. Do it vertically without the bar, there’s less breakage and the brush is more flexible without it. Plus, you have to use conditioner (lots of it) in your hair before using the brush anyways. I use it to detangle my hair during the conditioning process and I barely see any hairs. I see you don’t have conditioner in your hair at the time of detangling.

Bought a similar one in color orange for 9.99 on Amazon after succumbing to YT hype. It's not so bad when I detangle my hair in sections. But for real the sound of the comb without the clip sounds like a toy hand clapper like you did at 0.36 😜

The only time a comb or brush goes through my type 4 hair is when I’m getting a silk press or I’m blow drying it. Any other time im using my hands only lol

Hot combs really comb out the hair and flat irons just press it together. The best thing I ever did was the chasing method.
