I finally got to go hard on my new yz250f i broke in last week. Im 200lb with my nuts on the fill cap and it goes front wheel up in 4th. So much for people saying it wouldnt be powerful enough to carry me. Ive watched all these videos numerous times but I practiced these for about an hour today and it isnt as easy as it sounds. I had a bit of trouble figuring out the speed to let off the clutch and twist the throttle so Id bog out for a second until it caught on, and if I nailed it, my bad shift lever adjustment due to my large feet kept biting me and I couldn't hit 5th smoothly, if at all. Lol. I was once trying to race one of my friends just me and him, and I popped that shit up so hard and wheelied out of no where, luckily I didn’t crash😂
The Gold state I guess your right because I definitely haven’t worked on 5 this month... dropping the clutch puts out a lot of torque at one time Hinson and realize releasing more because they have more clutch disk that are skinner than stock. This torque transfers to the transmission but feathering a clutch is like slipping a belt for say but I do agree get the clutch as close to slipping as possible before dropping it
One thing is you can’t be scared to hold the throttle longer than everyone else to the first corner. I always get the hole shot cause I’m on the throttle for about 2-3 seconds after everyone starts braking. And I have a holeshot device and start in 2nd gear
The MX Factory. About what % of throttle do you recommend? Also, are you popping the clutch or letting it out about 80% until its ready. Because I have a 08 crf450r that loves to raise the front wheel.
+ed fujed Let it out until it’s almost ready. Don’t pop the clutch. % of throttle depends on terrain. If sandy or loam it could close to full throttle. If the dirt is super tacky and great grip, then back off the throttle a bit until you’re out of the gate. Make sure to keep your head and weight forward to prevent wheelies.
Question: I think my starts are pretty good (on dirt at least) I do second gear and I get going pretty fast. However I can tell that my clutch is slipping because once I'm about 10 ft out the bike jerks and I can feel the clutch fully engaging. Am I doing something wrong or is it just time for a new clutch? All I got is a Honda 80 four-stroke and a cr500, any tips for this, pros start in third and it pulls fifth gear wheelies so it's kinda hard keeping the wheel on the ground.

Is there a reason why you have both feet down ? In road racing I used left foot down, right on the peg holding the foot brake to set the clutch slip, left leg straight back, foot standing on the toe not the ball of the foot. Similar to drag racing which is what I copied it from when I was racing 2 stroke twins and later 1000cc super bikes and vastly improved my starts.
We definitely will, it's just a matter of having the dealership loan a bike to us so we can shoot more with it. Glad you liked them, we do have one more coming soon comparing the cornering capabilities of an Alta vs Honda 450.
I’ve tried with both feet on the ground but feel more comfortable with right foot on the peg, I do sometime get abit sideways upon takeoff so that would be don’t to not squeezing the bike with both legs yeh?
+Jay Moss Typically going sideways is because you aren't equally weighting each side of the bike. That's the challenge of starting one foot up, but not saying it's a bad thing. Starting with a foot on the shift side can help you shift quicker. But yes, you still need to squeeze the bike with you legs to keep it straight under you and in control. Squeezing the bike with your thighs generally fixes any side to side issues. Good question!
I agree with everything except the both feet hanging out. I use to race back in the 80’s, I always started with my left foot on the pegs and the right on the ground. In a flash my right was on the pegs and my left foot ready to up shift and win the hole shot. Too much time is lost with having to pull both feet in and get them on the pegs or if somebody hits you, or you get squirrely, it could go bad. Rather have my feet on the pegs ASAP. Everything else was spot on though. Also I had a technique called power shifting it worked like a charm but was hell on the clutch and motor. You pin the throttle and keep it pinned pulling in the clutch quickly and slightly while up shifting to the first corner. No lag, just constant acceleration. It worked well but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Hey I got a question. Every time I have actually tried a good launch which has only been a couple, I put the bike in second rev her up then drop the clutch. I’ve only tried it in 2nd also but I pretty much just loop out even though I feel that I’m pretty far up on that seat. Any advice?
In my last race over the weekend my clutch took a dump in the first race... so I'm the second moto I had to keep the bike in neutral until the gate dropped!! Lmao! I was able to make it to the first corner right behind the pack but obviously had a disappointing start lol
Some people have a bigger problem than just a technique. It's the nerves or over-excitement before the start :D

I know I’m late to this, but whatever gear should I take off in?
Thank you,
The mx factory, do you have any tips for me? Because I have a 500cc 2 stroke that I cant keep on the ground thanks
That's a lot of bike, try starting in a higher gear like 3rd and make sure to keep your weight forward.
Would I be the same for 2 and 4 strokes?
Oh yeah
I usually just give it gas, but this works too
I agree with everything except the both feet hanging out.
Is it necessary to hold down the brake ?
Rafa R not necessary, but a lotta people find that it helps just give you that little bit more immediate reaction
Bro new suscriber here by the way can i ask what is your height
5’7
Hey I got a question. Every time I have actually tried a good launch which has only been a couple, I put the bike in second rev her up then drop the clutch. I’ve only tried it in 2nd also but I pretty much just loop out even though I feel that I’m pretty far up on that seat. Any advice?
Maybe slip the clutch a little longer?
dont drop the clutch.
In my last race over the weekend my clutch took a dump in the first race... so I'm the second moto I had to keep the bike in neutral until the gate dropped!! Lmao! I was able to make it to the first corner right behind the pack but obviously had a disappointing start lol
There’s always next race!
