Index funds in India are coming in these days at extremely low expense ratios. eg Navi Nifty 50 has an exp ratio of 0.06%. The market is getting competitive around here.

Good paid advertisement of IND money
If you directly buy US stocks lesser than worth 1 lakh, you will make a loss if your returns are not about 40% (Which you won't) because of different fees like remittances, etc.
So it is better to just ignore them and invest in Indian equities. (You can however buy ETFs and Mutual Funds of US though).
That's why Zerodha doesn't have the option of buying US stocks because they do what is right for the customer rather than introducing flashy features.

@@jackofficialTM yea that has minimised the investing fees however when u bring back the amount to ur Indian back u would have to pay $20 as transfer fee.If the amount is under $2000. It's free if ur withdrawing above $2000
Plus if u withdraw within one year then u have to pay 20% short term capital gain tax.
The bid/ask spread in etfs was something that I didn't know about ( and honestly didn't take the time to research about also ) but that was the main reason why I was preferring mutual index funds over etfs...thanks for the clarification

If you frequently buy or sell your mutual fund then it will be a problematic situation but if you buy the mutual fund and hold for a long then the exit load will be negligible and tax will be 10% ltcg that will also be manageable

INDmomey and Vested uses Drivewelth broker and SMB bank for transfer. There is very less charge to deposit but There is withdrawal charges around rs 800-1500

Instead of buying individual stocks just invest in index funds. For example if you invest in vanguard stocks fund you are buying all kind of us stocks covered by that mutual fund.

The potential growth in US stock is marginally lesser than India. So for long-term view Indian market is preferred.

Why did you ignore that index MFs are actively managed compared to passive tracking of ETFs? If you track returns, MFs over a period of 2-3 years will be giving better returns with the same risk factor. Overall, you will make more money in an index fund compared to an ETF, ETF also brings in trading costs such as demat account's own costs, you can invest in a direct mf scheme without any such things. Tax treatment in India is also similar for capital gains.

The main problem will be transferring money to IndMoney or any such platforms from Indian banks. The fees for such transfers is too high. So we have to be mindful of such additional charges. Some of these are flat charges- so it doesn’t matter if you’re transferring 2000 or 200000.

Hello, there are still charges from the Bank side for sending money outside.
And as your friend said if u transfer 20,000, the Bank would deduct 1500 before, even in INDmoney app it still does deduct.

9:53 if ETFs are creating less capital gains than index funds then I guess we should go for index funds. Right?
Capital gain in this context means taxable income. Since the ETFs do not have to sell securities to give you your money back but can sell ur share of ETFs to some other buyer, it means that there is less taxable income and less tax liability, which is an advantage.

@@cripz4203 Ok, let me try and use the same Dry fruits example. When u buy dry fruits from index funds , and hold it for a year and make 20% gain for example. When u want to get back your money in exchange for your appreciated assets (dry fruits), the index funds has to sell ur dry fruits back to the market to get back your money. And since they sold, they created capital gains for which u have to pay taxes on. Now, when u buy the same Dry fruits using an ETF, and the dry fruits appreciate by the same amount(20% in one year), and u want to sell ur assets back for ur money, the ETF can just sell your dry fruits to another customer of the ETF, instead of selling back in the stock market, thus avoiding those capital gains taxes since they actually haven't sold any dry fruits. Keep in mind , the tax liability for u will be the same in each case, however since the tax liability is lower for the ETFs, those savings can pass on to u in terms of expense ratio etc..I hope that was a bit clearer.
