Marko gone but not forgotten, he gave us 2 decades of his best, and hope he joins the band ever so often he makes appearances with them. Marko's departure was sad, but I think if anything it made the band even stronger. He asks them to sing along with him, in the one part without subtitles.

It's about a lighthouse keeper. I never got suicide or depression out of this song. To me he's preparing to leave the island, retiring perhaps. He's reflecting back on his life, maybe aware he is nearing the end of it due to age.
But, you realise the lighthouse keeper is a metaphor, right? This is Tuomas, the song is not about what the song is about and has way deeper layers than just a lighthouse keeper singing about his lighthouse. In just the same way as there was not ACTUALL a lady who thought all the glittered was actually gold. This song is poetry and metaphor and, even a small bit of reaeasch finda a large body of people who think it is about depression and suicide and end of life - being also metaphors for the end of Tuomas' relationship with Tarja. Whereas i chose to believe the metaphor of light at the end of the ocean of darkness, the light house if you will, is about the hope of travelling out of the darkness into the light i.e, hope. Certainly, it's about way more than the text. The text is only there as a place in which Tuomas hides his sub-text - which is kinda the only reason i can and do keep looking at his songs.
Thank you for the kind words. Sadly, mots of my work is regional, for SA TV. Hi Paul. 2 things came to mind and of course they are Neil lyrics. 1. You know how that rabbit feels. Life in the grinder is no fun. 2. I want to look at life, in the available light. Perspective is everything! Keep up the good work!
Oh boy... and NOW I gotta listen to Available light! What a song, indeed what an album. Will now listen to that while I work. Deadlines make a whooshing sound. Thanks again for watching... (Oh and yes, bright images flashing by... that is my life right now!) dC
Again, I must thank you for the short time I spent with you and for your words. You've given me your interpretation of the lyrics of this song, and it's an interpretation that I completely agree with - it's a song about hope - I take it that way too. "Light at the end of the world" - a light of hope. At the same time, your sadness after Marko left the band - and not only, because after his complete withdrawal from musical life - your sadness is also my sadness, and probably the sadness of all Marko fans. But are we right to grieve? Marko wrote music and performed a song not about giving up - however great a disappointment may befall a person in life - he sang a song about hope. So? Is it possible that Marko - many years ago (for the first time) sang a song about himself? About the situation in which he himself finds himself? That he himself does not lose hope of seeing the "light at the end of the world", so we should not either? I hope so - and in this context, looking from this perspective - this song takes on a whole new meaning for me... I hope it makes sense - thank you for meeting me today!
Beautifully put. I suspect that Marko will rise. Maybe not with NW, and maybe only in a way that allows him to express his art without the grind of the business side. (I am still expecting the moment when i get to discover if i am a writer or just someone who gets paid to write - hope I don't have to find out for a long time, but age is creeping up on me) I am sure we will see and hear him again, and in the meantime he owes us nothing and we must - as peart said - wish him well. keep the faith dC

I prefer this live version over the music video. It may have something to do with the fact that Floor is not in the video. However, I do like my Nightwish live. While many other bands look tired, angry or bored. Nightwish genuinely enjoys what they are doing from the first note to the last. 😄🤘

@@ejllamobeolan5025 Why surprised? I am not in any way speaking to the quality of the song, in fact I think I said, I like the song. But the 'mission' of this channel is lyrics', and as such I have to believe I can 'add something' or at the very least extrapolate from the lyrics to something of value. I'm not here to confirm bias, or create performative reactions. I'm here to try and dig deeper into things that mean something to me, or to other people - based on whatever personal connection I make with the song and the words. And not even great words mean I can add to them. Most of the Early Rush, my personal favourite songs, are unavailable to me because I don't feel like I can add anything to them. So, this is not about good or bad song, it's about my ability to feel like I can create something of value that adds to that art. And so, yes, whenever I do stuff that I don't know, I curate that stuff to make sure I can achieve what I am trying to achieve. I read the lyrics, I dip into the song, make sure it is something I like and connect to. Then, when I watch, I concentrate and and focus and experience that first REAL listen in real time. Hope that makes sense to you - it has become the evolving principle of the channel.
Wish someone would delete this version of the video from YT, cutting out Marco's fun banter with the audience before he gets into the song. Really does a disservice to Marco and the Nightwish Army!.
Could not agree less. Look at who posted this and what they said about why. The band posted this as a tribute to the great man. It's not about that banter. He’s had everything he’s ever wanted, family, a refuge to come home to:
Princess in the tower
Children in the field
Life gave him it all
An island of the universe
Then everything was taken away from him:
Now his love’s a memory
A ghost in the fog
He was alone in the island for far too long, isolated from the world, family has since passed:
This is for long-forgotten
Light at the end of the world
And he basically feels nothing about his fate that the world has to cry on his behalf:
Horizon crying
The tears he left behind
Long ago
And he contemplates taking his own life:
He sets the sails one last time
Saying farewell to the world
When you set sail, you raise the anchor, not drop it to the sea:
Anchor to the water
Seabed far below
He didn’t get aboard his boat but he was close to the sea, the anchor was for himself:
Grass still in his feet
The imagery, for me, shows a man beside the sea, not really a beach because his boat is there, too. It’s deep enough to drown in. He tied himself to the anchor and threw it to the sea, waiting for the chain to finally pull him. “Grass still in his feet.”
He was ready, this is what he wanted for a long time being isolated in an island. He was content, he’s seen it all:
And a smile beneath his brow.
He’s been guiding the travelers with his light, the wisdom he’s amassed through success and suffering:
He lightens the beacon
Light at the end of world
Showing the way
Lightning hope in their hearts
The ones on their travels
Homeward from afar
But he’s alone inside, with nothing more to live for “so long ago”:
This is for long-forgotten
Light at the end of the world
Horizons crying
The tears he left behind
Long ago
So long ago

Sadly, a lot of Tuomas' writing, while clearly evocative and moving, leaves little room for me to... extrapolate - and I'm not really in the market as a 'that's great' style 'reactor'. Hopes that makes sense?

@@dodgycamreacts-lyricsinabo5170 It does knowing all you've said about why you do this.
It’s nice to see new reactors be in awe when discovering the musicality of Nightwish… but your lyrical analysis and overall insights always give me an extra dimension to admire the craftsmanship of this band. Thanks again; lots of love and respect from the Netherlands 🤘🏻🇳🇱👏🏻
Glad you liked it, and for once glad to be part of the confirmation bias crew with a song I really did come to enjoy and celebrate as much as breakdown and dissect.
Thanks for watching,

Great reaction. Great commentary. Thank you.
No, sir. Thank you for saying so.

Hello again !
Possibly the only person doing reactions,v who can bring a tear to my eye with your commentary.
Thank you for this tribute to a wonderful musical artist who,v while the Army appreciates him doesn't get sufficientvrecognition in music (or even metal) generally.
I would really love your thoughts on While Your Lips Are Still Red from the Wembley show but this is a worthy tribute to my favourite male metal singer.
That is a very, very big thing for you to say and I thank you for it.
You move me by know9ing you are moved. It's a loop!

Marko gone but not forgotten, he gave us 2 decades of his best, and hope he joins the band ever so often he makes appearances with them. Marko's departure was sad, but I think if anything it made the band even stronger. He asks them to sing along with him, in the one part without subtitles.
I know his relationship with the band is strong, as far as I know it his relationship with the business that is broken.
I wish him nothing but well.
Thanks for watching.

Damn you're interesting to listen to. First listen, subscribed and going back to your other stuff here.
Thank you for the kind words. Sadly, mots of my work is regional, for SA TV. The only way to even taste my work is a film called 93 days on netflix, not a perfect film, but an honest attempt at telling a big story well for no money.
Next year we are shooting a show with German money, once that is made and hopefully sold you can be sure I will sing it from the rooftops.
In the meantime... ua-cam.com/channels/mlOXK2BUHw9Zk3qkry9n7g.html ... If you REALLY want to torture yourself, here's a few old clips from a while back, before I jumped back into TV full time.

(Lost 4 hours to Covid tests today, so now I MUST write!)
A beautiful song and love Floor's smile at the end. At the very beginning there are subtitles translating what Marko says and that is that he is all alone with his guitar as "the weasels" have all gone and he will have to do something to entertain the 20,000 odd people. In the middle I believe he is just asking people to sing along.
I did not see any subtitles.
The Weasels line sound FUNNY.
And how could we NOT sing along... I'm still singing along.

Hi Paul.
2 things came to mind and of course they are Neil lyrics.
1. You know how that rabbit feels.
Life in the grinder is no fun.
2. I want to look at life, in the available light.
Perspective is everything!
Keep up the good work!

Will now listen to that while I work.

I really enjoy your poetic commentary. I'm going to mull over your thoughts about moving the boat. If I come up with something, I'll let you know. 😁👍
And thus we will carry each other... Which DOES move the boat.
Thank you
dC
(I am still expecting the moment when i get to discover if i am a writer or just someone who gets paid to write - hope I don't have to find out for a long time, but age is creeping up on me)
I am sure we will see and hear him again, and in the meantime he owes us nothing and we must - as peart said - wish him well.
keep the faith

Imagine having Floor as an backup singer. Wow!!
To be fair, she always has Marko as her BV. And that's not nuthin'! :)
another interesting reaction thank you
No, thank you for watching! :)
Love your Nightwish reactions , interpretation's of the music and lyrics , your more than a reactor you are a educator , im a little bit smarter after each of you're videos ......you should have more subs .
Marko is probably the only person who can say he had Floor jansen as a backup singer .....they sound amazing together.
I wouldn't trust anything I say too much, mostly I'm just good at 'sound smart'! :)
And, I have been quite diligent at chasing subs away by refusing to play the reactor game. So only myself to blame!
Thank you for your kind words, they are appreciated.
And for watching, obviously.
I must try find more places where Marko and floor wing off of each other, they are a really striking combination.
Onwards...

Thank you for your reaction! Marko is an incredible performer. - Still, I hope in the future he will do more Marko kind of music. With NW his role has not been as big as his voice and talent is. A good example is the latest performance by Marko, featuring Waltari's Below Zero 2021.
Literally listened to it this morning after it was suggested in another comment. Thanks for watching.

I prefer this live version over the music video. It may have something to do with the fact that Floor is not in the video. However, I do like my Nightwish live. While many other bands look tired, angry or bored. Nightwish genuinely enjoys what they are doing from the first note to the last. 😄🤘
Honestly, the arrangement of this is key.
I pretty much have nothing invested in the singer warts, but the warmth on display here and the delicacy and feel of this live version - THIS ONE - is amazing.
I like it very much
Thanks, as ever, for watching.

@@dodgycamreacts-lyricsinabo5170 beautiful song with so much meaning and feeling. In it. I'm surprised you feel that way. And do you pre watch everything you do?
That banter is there to be found, but I think the band very carefully curated what they posted and why, which is also why I used this version - BECAUSE it was on the official NW feed, right?
:)
