One of biggest Connor fans ever here, pretty impressive all right. BUT you don't knock off the GOAT that fast notice how many games those power house played each year. A team was luck to get 5 games lets add say 2 points a game to catch the games played difference. Take 1982-83 games played = 16, difference to Connor today is 22 Games played. SO 22-16= 6 games less Gretzky that year. So 6 X 2 points a game = 12 + 38 = 50 points for equal # of games. That's just one season. Connor is on most list for greatest of all time. Lets see couple cups and Consmyths before we take anything away from MR.G. *** Rest in Pease Dave Semenko ***
McDavid is great, but even Gretzky lost in the SCF twice, it takes a team to win, so IF IF the oilers can replicate game 4, they have a shot to drag this out to 7 games, but won't be easy.
I'm 61-years old. McDavid is a far superior player to Wayne Gretzky. Connor McDavid with his end to end rushes reminds me of Bobby Orr. McDavid accomplished his post-season assist record in an era of better players than in Gretzky's era. The 80s was a hockey era of high scoring.
McDavid is definitely a fantastic player, but he is not in the same league as Gretzky. Wayne was not big or strong, he was not a fast skater but he was very elusive and skilled with the puck, and his creativity and hockey IQ were off the charts. Wayne created a high danger scoring chance almost every time he touched the puck. It was nearly impossible to check him, he knew where every player on the ice was and where they were going to be a few seconds into the future. And he played when hooking and holding were not penalties like they are now. McDavid became what, the fourth play in history to record 100 assists in a season, Gretzky did it I think 11 times. I do love watching McD though, he is a different animal.
I would agree with all this but the difference between forward and defender was also much bigger back then, the best of the best defenders are todays bad defenders, there’s also the goaltending being much better too, there’s a reason scoring was nearly a whole extra goal a game higher in Gretzky era
Messier beat Gretzky for the cup shortly after he left the Oilers, by being the underdog and team player/playmaker. FYI the sport is more advanced than it’s ever been, compared to the older days. So therefore yes he is the best player of all time
@@ravekiller. In twenty years people are going to be saying the same things that you are about yesterday's players, and how much better the current players are. I hope you live long enough to hear it.
As a LA Kings fan I'm rooting for the oilers. Edmonton's offense is soo dynamic, they should be able to run circles around "officer BOB"... Mcdavid is the Steve Nash of hockey. And the oilers are the 6 seconds or less phoenix suns
McDavid is good at offence, and he's probably the best player in the league at speed with the puck on his stick. He's still bad in his own end, and his effort and committment when it comes to backchecking is wretched. Extremely good at offence plus bad at defence is an above average player, not even close to best of right now let alone all time.
Oh sorry one more thing. Thanks to Bouchard taking 22 second behind his net with 54 seconds left in the game. Pathetic. I hope he gets 8 million next year.
I watched this dude in Game 3 watch Barkov back check into his zone on Conner.....then he started his transition to offence. The "Greatest", player in the world allowed Barkov to pull away and set up a goal. I liked watching Conner pulling up 10 feet behind the play. Advance players with his speed usually back check. Conner played 2 sub par teams LA/Van and beat a beat up Dallas who just defeated the past two Stanley cup winers. Dallas was bagged. Sorry Bud, Conner cherry picked super easy teams for a bunch of assists.
Oilers in 7

The most dominance I've ever seen happened last year with Max Verstappen in f1, I genuinely believe those records will never, ever be broken.
