Great to see old BMWs getting back to life. I've just recently done full ccv replacement on my e60 with m54 along with valve cover gasket and all old and crunchy vacum lines, followed with all new fluids and filters. Great feeling after that and car is driving as good as new. Keep up with good work!! 👍🏻👍🏻

upgrade to powerflex bushings. if you have to pull the intake, swap the hard coolant hoses they will be the next cooling parts to fail.

Good morning! Please I have BMW e46, for this year alone, I have changed it's clutch and it finger for two times. And the time time too, still it is still disturbing me.
What are the causes of changing this clutch and it's finer all the time?
It's that anything you can help to solve this clutch issue once and for all?
    Thanks!

are u sure that expansion tank failure is due to old plastic and not to high pressure in the system? I change 2 expansion tanks in 8 months on my e46

hey man, since you have a Z4 have you ever had that the AC/Defrost both blow hot air and not changes the air flow position? ( mine blows air on the top portion even if i set it to blow air to my feet...)

@@bladermusics hmmm, that's odd. I have never had the issues with not getting cold air. However, I occasionally will get the issue where the air won't come out of the vent. I can hear the blower motor working but there is no air coming out of the vents. Playing around with the vent knob usually fixes the issue

Good video. One thing I'd recommend to people with this style expansion tank: Spend the little extra and get a genuine BMW expansion tank. The design is flawed and is going to fail eventually regardless, but my original BMW tank lasted to 100K miles before I replaced it as preventative maintenance. I replaced it with a cheaper unit and it split right down the vertical seam after less than 30K.
Also as old as these cars are getting, probably should just go ahead and do the radiator also. Behr makes a good one for less than $200, cheap insurance

I switched to Zionsville all-alumnium cooling components and swapped out the OEM coolant with Evan's Waterless Coolant, and haven't had ANY problems in the last four or so years in my E38 7-Series. Look at my previous comment above.

did the heater control valve fix your AC problem? I had the same issue and turned out to be that the AC system was low. filled it up, now have ice cold AC on both sides.

Solved the issue for this car! But when the refrigerant gets low it can have similar symptoms like you said too!

I recently had another form of failure of the expansion tank on my 1997 BMW Z3, which apparently has been common on Z3's. But, my "failure" has been with the cap not fitting properly. And this was on a relatively new OEM tank that I installed. I purchased a new cap, but it did not properly. Since the new cap was not fitting properly on the replacement tank, I purchased another new tank that came with its own new cap. BUT, I could not get the tank to install --- it would not fit the bottom socket, with the tank being just a tad to large. What a fricken PAIN in the ASS! So, reinstalled the last "new" tank and tried using an old cap that seems to fit "better" on the new OEM tank. Just can't seem to get a new tank & cap combo that works properly. So, at the moment, I am very careful whenever I need to remove the cap, being sure it seems to fit tightly (then go for a test drive to confirm). Such frustration!

Why do they fail? Because they are designed intentionally to be a weak point vs blowing the side tanks off the rad or heater core.
Takes about 20 minutes to change the tank vs hours to replace a rad/ core.

@@TheBimmerBarnIt's all good man. Hey if your woman likes it, you can't argue with her. On a side note, I do own a 70k miles 2001 740i Sport, and I remember in my first four years of ownership, I went through at least three expansion tanks within a two year period, not counting the numerous hoses, gaskets, and seals that failed on me. Since switching to a Zionsville aluminium radiator and expansion tank, along with switching from BMW OEM coolant to Evan's Waterless Coolant, I haven't touched my cooling system in the last five years, nor have I even received a "Check Coolant Warning" on my instrument cluster. The only weak points I haven't addressed is the automatic 5-speed transmission, it's plastic timing guides and all of the weak, failure-prone gaskets and seals that are made out of the temperature weak, Buna-N rubber material. BMW instead should have manufactured those replaceable parts with the more durable and heat-resistent, Viton rubber.

Not very helpful because you cut too much out of the removal and installation of the expansion tank.
