Your build is helpful to know what I can do with the m52 iron block when I do come around to putting that motor in. Keep going man and I love this series!
Whats needed inside the engine if I'm looking for 450whp? I know stock can go 400 reliably but I like to overkill things a little to make sure reliability is always there. Planning to match the turbo setup you have going in your current build series! I have a 330ci

Very helpful! Can a m54b30 block handle 600 + whp or up to 25 psi of boost with forged internals, upgraded head gasket, head bolts, oil pump etc? Can the aluminium block take it? The goal is up to 25 psi of boost on 93 octane with low compression ratio, about 9:1. I’m building on an e60 Do you think this setup would hold up? Thnx
Is m50b30 needed for 700hp -800hp or is possible with m54b30 ? Internals changed (M12 bolds , wiseco 9:1 pistons ARP rods, gt35 turbo , straight pipe...)
The e46 will never be reliable. Not even stock. Well maybe it’ll be reliable for 1 year after all proper maintenance is done at one time and all the plastic in the cooling system is replaced to aluminum parts that cost 3x as much. Then you get a fucking oil pan leak, and then you have to change all the gaskets AGAIN and then your fuel pump goes and your power seats don’t work AGAIN and then your rear struts give out because they are shit, so you spend $1800 on a cool coilover setup because you think your hot shit and those only last 2 fucking years, then the headliner tears away and the center console flops over to shit and then you die.
Damn 5k plus turbo setup . As much as I would love to stay Bmw. A ls3 Chevy performance crate engine (19432557 pn#) from jegs is 6k shipped BRAND NEW. Then the other tidbits and go slay. I really do love the turbo setup you have but more than anything I want to have ease of maintenance be my main driving point. Not max power . 450 to 500 is this chassis is plenty to party .

Tbh when the time comes I may just rering and boost the m54b30 that’s in the car for the flutter noises and leave it at like 350whp. I really need to keep ac. If it pops then I’ll sell the turbo setup and go LS … as gross as that sounds .

Solid lifters? Your not that far from alien engineering/ someguy325. Go get his solid lifters. Spin it to 8500. Job done! Check out his UA-cam channel. He's a regular contributing factor on the forums.

450whp should be fine just make sure to run E85 with a flex fuel kit

M54b30 just sucks because its hard to keep the head from lifting due to the weak aluminum block

Yes you can daily if you control yourself and keep it at 10psi

The “other tidbits” for that swap will add another 5k real quick just to not even make half the hp

Just a good turbo set up and good fuel system valve springs cams and intake will help a lot too
Ya these iron straight sixes make gobs of power w only a little psi. Thats why you see so many w chinesium turbos. 400 horses is possible w low $$.

Well if you want it to be reliable I’d recommend building the m54 up. You can make a reliable 400 on an un opened m54 if you go e85.
